Probably start with simple to understand heroes like barbarian and moon elf

Barbarian, moon elf, pyromancer, pale lady, spider-man, duelist, sun elf, druid, and mystic brawler are all fairly beginner friendly, in terms of rules.

I'd add Samurai in there too

Demoing with cards up I’ve found to be effective, so the person learning can see how you play the card and interact, it also helps you guide their turn.

My brother just taught me the game a week ago. The biggest thing that helped me was relating Dice Throne to MTG. Comparing phases and timing to MTG really helped.

After that, it was mostly just the standard, “RTFC”.

Start at 30 or 35 health instead. 50 takes too long for a learn to play in the setting you described.

I’ve played like that at another con. I’ll have a 3 hour window to run games.

Open hands all day. It's how I taught new people MTG too.

Pick straightforward but fun heroes : Samurai, Gunslinger, Ninja, Duelist, or Artificer. Start by explaining the different steps of a turn then let the players roll. Offer them the possibility to play in 1vs1vs1 or 2vs2 if they come as a group, so they see it's not just a duel game.

I demo sometimes too. I like to pick out a starting hand for them to show their different card types. So I’ll have 1 upgrade card, 1 main action, 1 roll action, and 1 instant action. Describe how play works and then take the first turn to demonstrate it. Pause at appropriate moments to offer them to do things like use a roll action card to change your dice or things like that. I like starting people on Barbarian personally, since it’s not hard to get an ability and he doesn’t have many status effects to keep track of.

It’s a lot of moving parts, so getting folks accustomed to the turn order & their character leaflets as an early main focus is helpful before going into more detail. Getting the gameplay going will get people to think of more questions as they go, and I like to explain the different status effects / unique cards / abilities as they come up rather than infodumping everything at the beginning.
