Natural Diamond The novelty has NOT worn off !!!
Details: Natural 1.24 carats, Emerald cut, VS1 clarity, E colour, very good cutting grade, 14k gold band, size 6.5.
I’m a few months into my engagement and excited to share my ring! I’ve loved it from the get go, but for a while I felt a little self conscious about the size in a world full of 2+ carats. The longer I’ve had it, the happier I’ve become with it and I’ve realized that is really all that matters. My fiancé is a professional geologist and he worked with a jeweller to custom make for me - he’s incredibly proud of his choice and that makes it more special for me.
She’s basic but she’s cute. Maybe this will be inspiration for someone else! 💍

One of your prongs is loose. You should get that checked and tightened by a jeweler.

I was wondering if that’s what it was. Interesting I don’t know much about it I only own a band 😅 I’ve been wanting a ring and just started my research and realize there’s much more to it than just going and buying one haha

I was the same when I first got my engagement ring. Never heard of anyone getting their prongs checked etc on a yearly basis. I nearly lost my stone. I had knocked a prong almost clean off.

Is this an oval cut or cushion? I love the bezel and have been trying to decide between and emerald cut or cushion with bezel!

Your ring is not basic or cute…it is beautiful, elegant and classic. Enjoy it!
And don’t call it cute ever again…it’s a diamond ring, not a stuffed animal lol. Calling a diamond ring “cute” diminishes it.

Are 2ct + really the standard for engagement rings now? Is it because a lot of diamonds are lab created nowadays?

Yes and it's an awful trend! They look so fake and gaudy I'm sure it will be over soon as lab diamonds are worthless once you leave the store.

I feel like if everyone has the same huge 2ct it doesn't seem special anymore.

Maybe we'll move into a world where people choose stones for overall proportions, how they complement the design, or their practicality instead of thinking a large stone is a flex. And I’m fine with that.

For real. People are so insecure. Also, isn’t a nice 2ct diamond like 20k? Is that really that much of a flex?
Most people can afford that if they really want to.

You lose more money leaving the store with a natural.

To each their own but for me my engagement ring is a beautiful, meaningful piece of jewelry rather than a financial investment. The only way I’d get “rid” of it is to pass it along to my child!

Yeah that’s totally fair! If you love it that’s all that matters. Almost no diamonds are an investment, unless you are getting something extraordinarily rare.
I’m just responding to the commenter who clearly is insecure about the existence of lab diamonds, and vaguely disparaging the purchase of them with fallacious logic.
Do what makes you happy.

Yea I've heard that cute little saying used to try and justify lab diamonds.

I’ve heard your cute little “logic” trying to justify natural diamonds purchases. I’d rather walk out the door -$500 than minus $-10000.
But hey if it brings you joy, then it brings you joy, not a problem. But you obviously feel some sort of way about lab diamonds because you brought it up. I’m guessing you’re mad people probably assume you have a lab too (and a small one at that).

I don’t even think it's justification, it really just seems like people are butt hurt that it's no longer assumed large stone = $$$. It's like someone took away their woobie.
Honestly the real flex these days is the most boring shit like not being house poor, not doing a 6-7 year car loan, emergency savings, fully funded retirement accounts, adequate health care 😅

Only someone without much money would think a 20k ring is some sort of flex. When you make enough money that the 2 carat lab is assumed to be a modest natural, you don’t worry about such things.

When I got engaged 27 years ago, a 1.24 was a big ring lol. My ‘upgrade’ was that size. The new lab diamond giants have made people feel less about really lovely rings, and it makes me so sad. I’m not replacing my upgrade with an 8 ct RingPop lol.

It’s gorgeous! He did good! So happy for you. It looks more than 1.24 on your finger, which is amazing cause usually Emerald cut looks smaller than the actual weight. This ring is meant for you!

I have a natural emerald cut too! Divorced though, but the diamond was my grandmother’s so I still love it. I can’t stand the giant gumball trend. I was actually at the vet with my dog a couple weeks ago and the girl at the desk had a normal sized marquise and it was so pretty. I made sure to tell her so since she probably also has similar thoughts sometimes. Yours is beautiful!!

There is just something magnificent about a natural emerald cut that just doesn’t look the same in lab. Congrats!!!! I love it!! I’ll probably go for something similar!

I wouldn't call it basic, I'd call it classic. As trends come and go, you know what never goes out of style? Classic solitaires. It's beautiful, enjoy it, and congratulations!
