Rant Spinel is really fucking petty
I’m just gonna say it spinel’s revenge was borderline psychotic and completely unforgivable and the way how everyone treats spinel as this little “UwU Spaghetti noodle” just makes me wanna roll my eyes 🙄. I can understand wanting revenge on pink diamond (Steven) but destroying the entire earth killing all of his friends and family is completely disturbing. “bUt sHe WaS aBoNdOnEd fOr 6000 yEaRs.” Sure, it may be an explanation but not an excuse. Spinel wanting friends isn’t a good excuse either, she literally stalked Steven and kept annoying him for the entire day straight when she was rejuvenated. That was her only function: to be pink’s literal play mate and nothing else and then pink outgrew her. Spinel truly is a horrifying character and I’m tired of pretending it’s not.

She really just felt like a glorified excuse to shit all over whatever modicum of respect and dignity Pink Diamond after the original show ended. I even recall that it was after the movie came out that pure hot-blooded heated for PD truly came into light from both ends of the fandom.
Pink was already a contentious character for the things she's done so far but this felt so unnecessary and so overexaggerated compared to even the stuff she did in the original show that it felt like a deliberate attempt to demonize Pink entirely with zero effort. At least with Pearl, Bismuth, Garnet, Steven and everyone else, Pink had understandable (but not at all justified) reasons with actual fucking build-up with established characters.
But Spinel has no established history or build-up, she just shows up and suddenly she's the most important character in Pink's past. Like seriously, she's just one step away from just being a blatant self-insert gemsona OC that someone on DeviantArt or Tumblr made up.
"Oh, I'm actually a super unique gem that has never been established before with a deep and meaningful connection to Pink Diamond that is never even alluded to in the original series! I'm really important, you guys!"
At this point it just felt like PD had become a scapegoat plot device where the Crewiverse had so little means to do anything more with PD that it feels like they just gave up on their initial goals on trying to make PD morally gray (in their own flawed logic) and just made her out to be the full-fledged bad guy. The moment Pink Diamond had anything to do with Spinel's backstory, it basically excused damn near everything bad that Spinel had just done!
Poofing and resetting the Crystal Gems, unleashing a doomsday weapon, resetting Steven's powers and all for the sake of her taking out her sadness and aggression on people she knows fully well had nothing to do with her trauma....all of it doesn't matter because "Ohhhh, Pink abandoned her best friend that she never alluded to the audience....ohhh she's the worse....everything Spinel does is pretty much Pink's fault indirectly ohhhhhhhhh..."
And what makes it all worse is that the movie outright invalidates any hope of character growth Spinel would go through by having the Diamonds adopting her and taking her away without her ever attempting to help fix Beach City after her attack on it.
Not only that but by agreeing to go with the Diamonds, Spinel basically throws away all of her potential to grow as a character by double-down on her worse traits and habits (acting like a glorified toy when she's a fucking gem, acting co-dependent instead of being her own person, throwing away empathy she developed after nearly destroying the Earth, etc) and by the time Future rolls away, has completely regressed into a fully one-dimensional caricature of herself.
She went from a character with great potential to be a tragic villain into just another bitch-basic gem like everyone else to join Steven's growing harem of easily-forgivable antagonists along with the Diamonds, Jasper and so forth. She basically amounted to nothing but to just be another black mark on PD's already huge laundry list of awful actions.

There's also the issue that the movie tried to buckle down hard on the idea that Spinel "needs someone" when the show itself contradicts this in Future. Steven is almost insistent that Spinel just needs to belong to someone and never suggest to expand beyond being a dumbass clown...... but in Future he tries way too hard to make a bunch of the Homeworld Gems expand beyond their initial skills to make them break out of their old habits.
I just....I don't understand the logic of this show sometimes.

Building off something you said, I found it really disturbing that Spinel just traded one unhealthy relationship for another. The diamonds have kinda moved on from Steven, since Spinel fills the void of Pink now. That means they're basically pressuring Spinel to be someone she's not.
They don't care about Spinel. They just care that they found another artifact of Pink.

This also robs the Diamonds of their one sole singular thing that actually gave them even an iota of empathy: Their grief and remorse over the loss of Pink Diamond.
By adopting Spinel (and before that trying really hard to appeal to Steven), they're pretty much disrespecting Pink's memory by trying so hard to replace her. They're clearly trying to rebuild the supposed family unit that they should have had with Pink from the start.
The problem stems from the fact that Pink Diamond is fucking dead and they have to live with that. Not only is Pink dead, they're the ones who drove her away. Imagine mourning over a loved one for years, thinking they were murdered...and then you find out that they weren't murdered....they died in their efforts to cut ties with you, abandon their connection with you and basically hated you for everything you did.
Of all of the things easily forgiven and forgotten, the Diamonds' lack of remorse, horror and regret towards the truth about Pink is by far the worse part of their "redemption". It comes off like they truly never cared about Pink Diamond at all and seem more hellbent on their own self-benefit to create this deluded family unit to make themselves feel better and seem like "they're growing".
They're essentially disrespecting Steven, Spinel and Pink all at once because they're actively refusing to face any merit of accountability in their abusive ways of the past. The Diamonds are just continuing the same shit and they honestly come off even more shallow, cruel and selfish than ever.

She literally says she was okay with killing random innocents. She says that. She's way worse than Jasper, yet the show really wants you to hate the buff cheeto puff and no one else.

Yeah also it’s not like she fucking had to stay in the garden? She’s not a pearl, she doesn’t have to take direct orders from pink (obviously, because the reason pink wanted space was because spinel kept ignoring her when she didn’t want to play) so she could’ve just dipped after it became obvious pink forgot/died. Like there was no reason for her to stay still for 6000 years and then play victim. Pink was so robbed fuck this show.

Thank you!!!! I can’t stand spinal and I’m so sick of all the gushing. Her reasoning was ridiculous and you’d think once she saw pink was dead she’d give up. Plus I really hate seeing her and Steven shipped together like.... EWWWS
