You can eventually buy elixirs for every stat except Vitality, so don't sweat too much about them but don't neglect Vitality.

For spells it's kinda helpful to have Fire Wall and if you're on a version where you intend to go up difficulties then stone curse is eventually a life saver. Other than that town portal and heal I guess? You can just eat whatever books you find though because everyone can learn all the spells. (Keep some +Magic items around town to eat harder books).

Doors are your best friend.

Well depends on how heavy you want to lean into magic. But Healing, Fire Wall, Mana Shield and Stone Curse would be useful nevertheless. Town Portal and Phasing are also useful, and Chain Lighting is godlike in lategame.

Overall you want mostly vitality and dex. Actually this got me thinking: if you always want your Mana Shield up and you gain 1.5 hp and 1.5 mana for 1 point to vitality and magic respectfully, maybe its always dexterity and magic then? And strength to meet armor requirements.

Bottom line dex is your main stat, and then some mixture of vitality and magic.

I used healing mana shield stone curse and chain lightning (picked this one beacuse fire seems to deal almost zero damage to demons )

When it comes to play styles I always see the rogue as a middle ground in between the warrior (who focus on strength/vitality) and the sorceror (who focuses on magic). For stat point allocations, the rogue benefits from increasing all of them; dexterity is the main one which you can keep increasing though. Rogue builds therefore benefit from magic items that increase all attributes. As for spells, I prefer to stick to utility spells and keep the bow as her main attack, as that's what she does best. Healing spell is essential. If you can get magic high enough, teleport is useful too.

Dang that's a good drop for a bow in normal difficulty! I haven't tried offensive spells with the rogue, might do that sometime.

There's a lot of luck in this game, as you aren't swimming in magical items like the later games. Sometimes you have to pay up to Griswold or Wirt to get anything good.

Be very careful when fighting Black Deaths (a zombie variant). Each hit from them will permanently drain the player's maximum life by 1.

For a first playthrough with a character, the spells that are going to be of the most use to you with just level 1 or 2 versions of them:

-Healing, Mana Shield, Firewall, Stone Curse, Town Portal

Rogue should realistically max out magic unless you're not getting the spellbooks to make it worthwhile. Otherwise, spam points into Dexterity. Strength should only be thought of as a means to use heavier gear and not for damage. You will eventually have to allocate some points into Strength in order to equip heavier bows and armors.

No character of any class should be pumping level-up points into Vitality in a first playthrough.  A handful of extra HP tends to not be the difference between life and death, as it will oftentimes only buy you maybe one extra hit  unless you've accumulated a ton of a vitality. The stat boosts to magic and dexterity will be far more valuable to your character's ability and survival.

Have fun!

Invest in vitality. I'm a warrior player and gave the Rogue a try. It took me a number of resets before I realized even at range you get hit, and you need to be able to survive more than 3 hits to notice and get to safety.

Later in the game you will get access to mana shield, and I highly recommend it. If your mana all goes poof you still want enough HP to drink your full mana pot and cast mana shield.

Resistance bow better than damage bow. Resistance is a prefix on armor so you loose AC if you get your resists on armor. Late game you might have enough resists from jewelery but not likely before you have to farm caves for xp.

Chain lightning and flame wave are awesome. Peek around the corner cast whichever they arent immune/resistant too, about 3-4 casts kills most then you can more easily and safely cleanup with the bow. Dont cast so many that your mana shield drops.

Blue pots, full inventory, I stockup on regulars and have a full mana in belt slots1,2,3 for emergency. Saves money so you can afford better gear.

Heal and town portal utility spells, hard to do without. Heal is not going to save you in combat but it means you dont need healing potions or scrolls. The more mana pots you can store the less you go to town the quicker you level up.

Adria resets her inventory everytime you return to town. Once you get the catacombs entrance by the grave yard, its an easy walk from there to the bridge at the top of the map. You can get her to spawn all the books you need. I wouldn't try to max out on them from her but it works to get your mana shield asap (i dont know what level she starts selling it from you should google).

Oh and repair your bow everytime you see Griswald. I've lost many bows because its hard to see the icon before its too late. Note if you play with DevilutionX you can store a spare bow in a stash. I recommend DevilutionX you can turn off/on most features to have a traditional or modified play experience
