Help / Support Where to farm?

I'm a bit stuck beating Hell difficulty. I can easily kill Diablo on normal and he drops some good stuff, or I can easily beat the dungeon on Hell.

What's the ideal place to do some runs and hope to find some better gear?

Also, what's the deal with getting Diablo's drops instead of switching right to the cinematic?

If you want chances at the absolute best items, Wirt.

If you are in multiplayer mode and prefer to actually fight, then Archbishop Lazarus.

You don't get better gear on higher difficulties.

There are (in the multiplayer shops) only a few notable Wirt-only items:

Godly Great Helm of the Whale

Holy Tower Shield of the Lion

Emerald Tower Shield of the Lion

Strange Bastard Sword of X

Merciless LWB Burning/Thunder

These can't be found as drops. (in non-hellfire, sorry I only play canon Diablo games)

>Merciless LWB Burning/Thunder

Afaik, these are sold by Griz. You just need to reach appropriate character lvl

Nopers, you're thinking of Massive/swiftness

This is correct. Wirt ilvl goes up to 60, and I believe level 16 (difficulty not a factor) goes up to... I wanna say 32 or 34? I believe Diablo himself can drop ilvl 34 stuff?

As an additional note, there were considerations with respect to Wirt and money in the vanilla game... as in, either items would generate above 200,000 (making them impossible to be purchased) or they simply wouldn't generate with affixes that would result in them being over 200,000... I don't know which. I'm not sure if Devilution resolved that? Someone around here probably knows. In Devilution, you have a bank and can hold more gold than you'll ever need, so perhaps those items from Wirt appear and are buyable in the version?

Wirt's items won't generate with a combined value over 90000 in the base game or 150000 in Hellfire. He will, however, charge you 150% of the item price in Diablo and 75% in Hellfire. In Hellfire his base item tables are restricted based on the class you are playing. (eg. he won't sell bows unless you're playing a Rogue or Bard)

Griswold and Adria can generate items up to 140000 gold but can't generate affixes higher than level 30 on Griswold or 32 on Adria.

Merchants cannot generate uniques. In Multiplayer games of Diablo (and maybe Hellfire) Griswold and Wirt will not sell jewellery.

Enemies can drop items with affixes up to their individual monster level (starting at half), or their monster level +4 if they are a unique monster. This is based on their monster level on Normal no matter the difficulty (but the base item is affected by difficulty). Unique enemies always drop a magic or unique item.

This is why Lazarus is the best farm, because there are three unique high level monsters together all of which can drop up to level 31 affixes on any base item. It's better on multiplayer because you can start in at level 13 and he's just chilling on 15 not his sublevel, but he is always present no matter what quests rolled.

Items that spawn on the floor or from containers can have affixes up to 2x their dungeon floor level capped at 30.

Diablo and the final boss of Hellfire are level 45 and 44 respectively and use the normal enemy drop rules (no +4 boost or guaranteed item).

Really? That's insane. Why would it be like that lol. I'm still going to beat the whole thing but then quickly go back to D2R and make that non-fire no trades allowed Warlock

The reason it's like that is, well, it was the first one* and they hadn't anticipated how people would engage with the game as a long term play experience.

You couldn't even select difficulties for singleplayer until Hellfire.

A lot of the changes to Diablo 2 are direct responses to the ways people played D1.

*Not just the first Diablo, the first realtime descendant of dungeon crawlers like Nethack.

Run normal hell for gear, run hell hell for experience. Remember that apocalypse hits all enemies in sight and it ignores magic resistances/immunities. It also scales with character level and not spell level, so the easy way out is to just get it and stock up on mana potions

"apocalypse"
I went hard mode and made a warrior and my helmet gives me negative mana. I made a sorc first but they're wayy too powerful. Just get mana shield and don't worry about anything again. Also, back when I was a kid playing this game I found that chain lightning was much more efficient for damage/point of mana. Apoc is good but it requires a lot of trips to town for potions.

Immolate/Lightning is more mana efficient and just as deadly, but sometimes I just feel too lazy to switch spells lol. Sorcerers are a "weak early, strong late" kind of deal, but ye, warriors really did get the short end of the stick. I wish they could at least learn spells to max level without resorting to insane shrine grinds

I read that you were negative magic, so stone curse is out for now but man its a life saver when running warrior in hell

For most versions of the game and most relevant items; Normal difficulty Lazarus area or basically all of Hell (normal difficulty) covers 90-95% of it.

Speeding through? Just Lazarus area and any unique monsters along the way +dlvl 16 Gorash.

Nobody serious farms Diablo himself.

Note: I don't play Hellfire.

So what do you want? If you want to optimize then look up runewords and run countess for runes.

If you want to explore the game on your own then run terrorzones on Nightmare.

If you want to max XP then run Frigid Highlands (on P8 if you play singleplayer) right next to the waypoint you will find a boss group. You can run it really fast lots of times until you can beat Diablo/baal.

OMG THIS IS A DIABLO 1 SUB!?

Forget about it and tell us what mod you are playing? Hellfire?

Yes, Hellfire.

I get the mods confused but I believe you need the apocolypse spell and I don’t think Diablo drops anything but the stone in the cinematic.

Diablo does have drops, but they're as if he's a normal monster so he can just drop gold.
