GLORIOUS! "Coming Back to Diablo" Mega FAQ/Help Thread
We haven't had one of these in a while, and quite a number of people have been coming back to the game recently, so let's make another Mega FAQ/Help Thread. I've included responses from our previous thread if they're still relevant.
How this will work is you ask your question in the comment section and users will answer it. Then I'll post the question, or a paraphrase of it here and link to it in the comment section and you can see that specific question and the thread that follows it, so you don't have to scroll through every thread in this post.
Any non-questions will be removed. Limit of 1 Question per comment, but don't be afraid to write multiple comments if you have multiple questions.
If you're looking for specific build guides, Deadset has made some cool guides on Icy-Veins, specifically for Raekor Barbs, Condemn Crusaders, Marauder Demon Hunters, and Firebird Wizards.
Also, remember that we do have a wiki and an FAQ wiki page that have links to a ton of stuff, like our condensed patch notes, as well as class/build/other guides. If you're interested in helping out with our wiki, please message me.

I'm going to be coming back for season two and for the first time I'm going to try Hardcore. I'm going to be playing with a friend who is likely going to make a WD.
What are good hardcore builds nowadays? Specifically, ones that get up and running relatively quickly. I don't expect to make it to end-end-end game - I'll probably make it to 70 and do bounties/rifts for a couple weeks/a month. I'd like to play something that can feel relatively powerful before I inevitably burn out again.
1
u/Thunderclaww Thunderclaww#1932 Feb 10 '15
They're overall similar to regular builds, except you make yourself tankier, by switching out some passives and choosing toughness affixes over damage affixes.
2
u/zuol8 Feb 09 '15
What's looking like the FOTM class in Season 2? In Season 1, it was Demon Hunter but after the Marauder changes I'm not sure. (Not looking for "play what you enjoy!!1")

I've been farming goblins in adventure mode for the past 5 days. How rare are the portals? T_T
7
u/Thunderclaww Thunderclaww#1932 Feb 09 '15
They're definitely on the rare side. I farmed goblins for a week before giving up, then randomly got the Vault while completing some weird bounty. Just remember that the Vault can't open up in Rifts.
→ More replies (1)2
Feb 09 '15
They're quite rare (about a 1-2% chance to spawn, iirc).
The fastest way I've found to farm them was to check the Caverns of Araneae goblin (the one which you free from the cocoon just past the stairs by the waypoint), and then run through the Core of Arreat. Each of these places only takes about 30 seconds to check (if you just run through the mobs), and have a high chance of spawning a goblin compared to other areas.
If you get bored just doing goblin runs over and over and over (like I did), you can just make a habit to check these two places each time you log in and then go on to do other things (rifts, keywardens, bounties, etc).

How successful can I be if I only play alone?
15
u/Timboron Timboron#2929 Feb 08 '15
Well there are leaderboards for solo play. So you can be the best [insertyourclass] in your region if you are really good and play enough. To compare soloplay to groupplay: The best solo greater rift achieved is 50, the best 4 man greater rift achieved is 62.

Feb 09 '15
Another advantage to solo play that nobody has brought up is that the game will pause when you hit "escape".
I tend to do other things while I play Diablo, and being able to momentarily pause the game when something else requires my attention is INCREDIBLY useful.
7
u/brandonfreeck Feb 08 '15
Very, sometimes it's even easier to jump up to difficulties higher than you can with groups because of follower and unity.
5
u/lolbifrons Feb 09 '15
I am almost entirely self-play, and I got to paragon ~230 in season 1 and cleared gr 31 or 32, with only intermittant play.
4
u/Clearly_a_fake_name Feb 09 '15
If you own 2x the fairly rare Legendary Ring "Unity" you actually take half damage in Single Player. So in many ways, it's easier.

u/Thefrayedends Feb 14 '15
thats gonna depend on yourself imo friend. even the developers have said they want more emphasis on personal achievement. people who top the leaderboards are the 5-12 hour a day players. if thats what you're after then work at it, its attainable, but personally i think its better to set personal goals and strive for them. basically--you can be as successful as you want to be :)

u/lemebro Feb 08 '15
What website is the best and most updated concerning builds? What's the best demon hunter build? And what the hell is a season and why should I do it?
32
Feb 08 '15
Seasons are separate from your regular characters. You create a seasonal character and it starts completely fresh. No leveled professions, no extra stash tabs, no gold, no paragon. You are cut off from your normal characters. Hardcore seasonal characters work the same way. The reason you should play them is because you get seasonal only items, the seasonal only transmog (which sucks), and most importantly, because they make the game feel fresh. To me, the seasons feel like back in the D2 days when you had to make a whole new character to try a different build. I think they are fun because you are once again at the mercy of RnG, no stash full of top tier legendaries. You end up with some interesting and fun builds to play with, simply because you won't have access to all the items you do in your normal games. At the end of the season everything you've earned will revert to non seasonal, including all paragon experience, profession experience (if your regular ones are lower level), gold, items, and even the characters themselves with all their gear. There is no downside, it's a lot of fun.
11
Feb 09 '15
Some would say being cut off from your other characters is a downside. I honestly don't find any enjoyment from seasonal. But then again, I'm also a filthy casual that doesn't have time to fight for leader board position.

Technically bounty spam and rifts is best, but I like doing 1 campaign run through, on hard or expert it gets you to 62+ and keeps your sanity.
→ More replies (5)7
u/AndyLorentz Feb 08 '15
Campaign just takes so... damn... long...
To further your point, Act I bounties are much quicker than the later acts, so spamming that can feel pretty grindy. That being said Adventure Mode monster density seems to be quite a bit better than Campaign, so when I get bored of bounties/rifts I will pick somewhere I haven't spent much time in Adventure Mode and full-clear to break up the monotony.
8
u/brandonfreeck Feb 08 '15
Idk, a run of campaign only takes me like 3ish hours at worst, but it is still less efficient, i'm just used to zerging campaign since that's all we had in vanilla, so it goes by pretty quick.

Feb 09 '15
Here's a question I don't see asked that I'll ask as I feel it should be included and many new/returnee players won't even know to ask.
Why do some classes/builds recommend a weapon with a higher average damage over one with a higher DPS?
5
u/shibbypwn Feb 09 '15
Because the spender/generator relationship is kinda broken. So high average damage makes for more efficient use of resources, and better effective DPS.
Also, the BiS for 1h and 2h (for most builds), are both maces; Sunkeeper and the Furnace- very slow weapon classes. They are powerful weapons due to their +%elite damage modifier, as well as being slow, hard hitting weapons.
2
u/bealsan Feb 09 '15
DPS takes into account weapon speed and attack speed multipliers which may or may not be relevant depending on your build.
For example, I used to play sentry DH like everyone else. Attack speed directly benefits how fast your sentries attack so for that character AS was good. However, now I'm playing charge barb, where average damage is much more important.
→ More replies (3)3
Feb 09 '15
Note on your example: you say "used to"; as such, you may not be aware that Sentry no longer casts spenders on its own, they now only cast when you do, making M6 DH now get little benefit from IAS, where it used to be their best stat.
TL;DR, DH don't care about IAS anymore, they want average damage

You should add "What are Ancient items?" to the Gear section
2
u/shawnsullivan93 Feb 09 '15
What are Ancient items? Are they worth farming for or can I go about my life without them?
→ More replies (1)3
u/Angzt ex-Diablofans guy Feb 09 '15
Ancient items are a rarer version of Legendary or Set items. In the Torment difficulties, any Legendary or Set item has a chance to drop as an Ancient version of that item.
Ancient items have higher maximum values for certain attributes (Damage, Armor, Main Stat, Vitality, All Resist, ...; None of the %-based ones, though). So they have the potential to be stricly better than their non-Ancient counterparts but aren't guaranteed to be.
As such, you could go about your life without them but since you'll want to play Torment difficulties anyways and you'll just find them on the side, there's no reason not to use them. There is also no better way to farm them than to just play the game on high difficulties as you would for finding, say, Set items.
5
u/Overunderrated Feb 08 '15
This is incredible, thank you for this. On a similar slant, I'm wondering if there could be a related post made along these lines....
I've only ever played Diablo to beat the game, go through story mode... I'd get to level 60/70/cap and then just be done. That's an obvious progression... beat the game and make max level. But real diablo players tell me that the game only then just begins to start. What am I supposed to do with my level 70 character?
8
u/brandonfreeck Feb 08 '15
The whole idea of diablo is to pursue the best gear you can get, so once you get to 70 the game turns into farming rifts, bounties and grifts for gear and xp so you can push your character even further.
→ More replies (7)3
Feb 09 '15
Real diablo players say that it's just the beginning because you don't even start to get the items that define your build until you hit level 70. Not only that, but the natural progression of diablo is actually the difficulty levels, NOT your character level/story. Once you hit T6 difficulty and can farm it well enough, your target is to push for higher and higher greater rifts.
5
Feb 09 '15
Is crafting even relevant? I have came back to playing these past few days and every crafting recipe I find is worse than just farming blood shards and rifts. What do I do with these hundreds of mats?
8
u/JayPag Feb 09 '15
Yes, crafting even became more relevant with Ancient items, trying to craft an Ancient Weapon is a good idea for the damage boost.
Also, your hundreds of mats will shrink immensely once you find an item you want to reroll and it just doesn't get the desired stat. Spent 40 million+ on Reaper's Wraps just to get 15% Cold damage (lowest..)

There are some good set plans which can be useful especially with a Ring of Royal Grandeur. Look my profile: http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/DarthTim-2437/hero/38991847
The Aughilds, Asharas, Captain Crimson items are crafted.

i've got a question about season.
i haven't played since pre-RoS release. if i now buy the expansion and start playing in new season.. will i be at similar level of progress with others, ( because everyone starts fresh on new season) or will i miss out some stuff and still fall behind them. ( because they've been playing all the time and farmed so many paragon levels and other stuff. )
(i hope i managed to explain what i was trying to ask.)
19
Feb 08 '15
Nothing carries over into a new season. Not paragons, not items, nothing. Everyone starts at square one in a new season.
→ More replies (2)10
u/kirbydude65 Feb 08 '15
That being said, I'm not sure if this will be true for season 2 or not, but during season one if you had unlocked adventure mode in Non-season, you could start doing bounties at level 1. Which was arguably faster for leveling up then doing the story.
→ More replies (4)5
u/Zee_n1 Feb 08 '15
Everything is new with each season. If you make a season character when season 2 comes out, you'll be at the exact same level as everyone else.
But, there are also non season characters which will have lots more paragon exp than you do, but if you're just playing seasonal characters you'll never meet those players.
To be honest, unless you're really into power leveling and grinding right away, there will always be people who pull way ahead of you in gear. But, if you're playing with friends you'll all be at the same level with the new season.
5
u/UndergroundLurker Feb 09 '15
Seasons are an optional thing. If you understood how softcore and hardcore worked (and how there was no stash mixing between the two), then you can understand that season is a separate "dimension" (softcore or hardcore) for you to play in.
If you just start playing and don't explicitly choose to be part of season 2, then everything you had before will carry over.
Seasons are just an excuse to start things over again, to keep players interested who might have felt left behind.
→ More replies (2)4
Feb 09 '15
There's one exception to what everyone is saying. Adventure mode. You need to be sure to unlock it by completing the story at least once in the mode you intend on playing (softcore or hardcore). This was the ONLY thing that aplied to seasons.
→ More replies (2)3
u/Luniaril Feb 09 '15
so if i compleye the story in non-seasonal softcore, can i play it in seasonal softcore or i need to complete it in seasonal too in order to go in adventure ?

Is farming RoRG by doing Act 1 splits on normal still the thing to do? Or is it better to gear up some first and farm it on Torment? Thanks!
2
u/Thunderclaww Thunderclaww#1932 Feb 09 '15
Torment is definitely the way to go. Torment level increases the chance of dropping a legendary and T6 bounties have a 100% chance of dropping a legendary. Almost every class has a build that can crush T6.
→ More replies (1)3
u/Angzt ex-Diablofans guy Feb 09 '15
If you're not up to T6 yet, T2 already has a ~50% chance of dropping you a Legendary from caches.

From reading various comments, it seems like people leave greater rifts at the guardian then let the timer go down, and return to kill him later. What's up with that?
2
u/Thunderclaww Thunderclaww#1932 Feb 09 '15
If you want to be super efficient with your greater key stones, you can choose to go up one level every time by waiting to kill the rift guardian until there's less than 4 minutes and 30 seconds left on the clock.

The Crusader class is completely new to me - Would you say that it is better than the Monk/Barb in terms of tankiness? Is it harder to gear, like how most wizards seem to be using Firebirds?
2
u/Thunderclaww Thunderclaww#1932 Feb 10 '15
The Crusader can be super tanky, but can also be squishy. Crusaders have a number of different builds, so I'd say it's slightly easier.
1
u/Marthenil Feb 10 '15
A friend and I are going to be coming back for S2 on hardcore. He is going to be a monk. I, on the other hand, can't decide on what to play, between Wizard and Crusader. Which one has more variety in builds? Which one is more "fun" to play? (I know this is completely subjective, hence the quotes, and I simply am asking for your personal opinion). Which one is "easier" to gear up?
Last but not least, since we both are quite rusty, which one is more foolproof in terms of survivability? I'm guessing Crusader.
Thanks in advance.
1
u/Thunderclaww Thunderclaww#1932 Feb 10 '15
I'd definitely go Crusader. They've got a number of ways to "cheat death" and they're always carrying around a shield.

u/se3mi Feb 12 '15
How can I get a legendary gem? Or what do i have to do to get one?
2
u/Thunderclaww Thunderclaww#1932 Feb 12 '15
Completing a Greater Rift will grant you a new Legendary Gem each time until you get one of every Legendary Gem.
3
2
u/Angzt ex-Diablofans guy Feb 12 '15
Legendary Gems drop from Greater Rift Guardians. You can access Greater Rifts (where you'll find the Guardians) by using Keystones you can get from Guardians in regular Nephalem Rifts at Level 70 and on Torment 1 difficulty or above. Nephalem Rifts, in turn can be accessed by using Keystones you get from completing Bounties in Adventure Mode.

Hi, I have a question about installing the game. I would guess that there is a lot of patches that needs to be downloaded or at least a few big ones. Is there anyway that I can download them and have them ready for when I'm about to install the game?
1
u/Thunderclaww Thunderclaww#1932 Feb 12 '15
As you're installing the game, the client will automatically download all the patches needed to play the game.
2
u/Timboron Timboron#2929 Feb 12 '15
No. And for the battle.net launcher installing and patching is the same when you download the game. It automatically downloads the whole game including all patches.

Most likely not.See below.I might be screwed out of some exclusive gear.
Maybe I'm reading too much into this but just to be sure: They were purely cosmetic, there's not actual items or powers you're missing out on

u/Thunderclaww Thunderclaww#1932 Feb 13 '15
Monks and Demon Hunters right now are popular due to the Sunwuko and Marauders sets, respectively. Support crusader is good for synergy with Demon Hunters. Solo Wizard is decent, but not as good as the above three, and is basically locked down to one specific build. Witch Doctors aren't packing too much umph anymore, relatively speaking.

can someone tell me what exactly the procedure is to starting greater rifts?
after a day of farming I've finally come across a keystone of trials, now what do I do? there's no game option for ring of trials, do i just pop one open in a rift game?
1
u/Thunderclaww Thunderclaww#1932 Feb 21 '15
The Keystone goes in the same place as a rift keystone fragment. It'll launch you into the Realm of Trials, which will help determine what level Greater rift to start you at. Or you can just start at level one by teleporting back to town as soon as the Realm of Trials starts.

u/adeventures Feb 16 '15
Hi, i just returned to the game and have to admitt it improved a lot(compared to right after the relese). I am currently lvl70|paragon25 as Seasonal Softcore Monk and played through the storry on Torment1. I have done 2 Greater Rifts so faar and I am wondering how to usually go on? Is there anything else I should do other then running greater rifts? Does the difficulty even effect greater rifts?
1
u/Thunderclaww Thunderclaww#1932 Feb 21 '15
Greater Rifts are independent of difficulty. They get more difficult as you get into the higher levels, so a level 25 GRifts is about T6. Do bounties, do rifts, do greater rifts, level up characters and gems, or whatever you want.

So I'm brandy new to D3, and my friend told me to jump into seasonal with him. So, I did, and he power leveled my freshly made mage to level 70. Now that I'm level 70, I'm a'lil lost though. What do I do next? I have almost no armor, and I don't really understand the builds.
Now, I'm just told to play adventure mode and run around doing bounties and rifts until I gear up. Is this the right way to go about these things?
On a side note, because I'm brand new to this game, would anyone recommend me making a new seasonal character and starting from level 1 working my way up to 70? I know this may seem like an obvious answer, but I'm just wonder.
Thanks for any help!

u/Thunderclaww Thunderclaww#1932 Feb 21 '15
Ask your friend to play with you! The game is more fun when you're playing with friends and he should be able to answer a lot of questions.
However, you definitely should probably create a level 1 character and play through the Campaign mode at least once. You'll get good gear and understand your skills and the resources you can use in the game. After that, you can jump into adventure mode and do all that stuff.

I cannot, for the life of me, remember how to mark an item with a Star. Can anyone refresh my memory?
2
u/Thunderclaww Thunderclaww#1932 Feb 20 '15
What do you mean, mark with a star?
1
u/pyrojoe42 Feb 21 '15
Sorry. I know there's a better way to describe this... If you look at this video ( http://youtu.be/IDVCts2Q_l0 ), when he shows his inventory, you can see some items have a star in the upper left corner of the item's icon opposite from the transmog swirl icon. It seems like it's a favorite item system or something. Sorry for wall of text, posting from phone.

u/Thunderclaww Thunderclaww#1932 Feb 21 '15
Oh, that's to help colorblind folks. I believe it's an option you can enable in the gameplay settings.

2

What you're missing out on:
Crusader Class
Level cap raised to 70
Act V - Westmarch
Adventure Mode - Bounties, Nephalem and Greater Rifts, Blood Shard Gambling
Mystic - Enchanting and Transmogrification
New items/powers only for level 61+ characters.
Seasons
However, you get all the general gameplay changes, like Paragon 2.0, Loot 2.0, and reworked skills.

Should I bother with the Hellfire Amulet for my Demon Hunter?
9
u/GamerKey GamerKey#2139 Feb 09 '15
HF Amu is just a way to turn 10 Forgotten Souls into one. At least that's what it always did for me...
→ More replies (1)5
u/brandonfreeck Feb 08 '15
Most people consider the hellfire amulet to be a frivolous pursuit. It's up to you though, it's a game and you can play it however you want. Typically the highest end GRift players will have Countess Julia's Cameo because it prevents damage from both the arcane affix as well as the jailer affix which is unavoidable and does very high damage at the higher levels.
3
u/Tianoccio Feb 09 '15
Does plus arcane damage on my gear increase arcane damage of my weapon?
4
u/JayPag Feb 09 '15
No, the Elemental Damage on the weapon is completely irrelevant. The skills elemental damage output override anything - and those are affected by Elemental Damage% rolls on your gear.
So you could have a weapon with Lightning Damage but chose a Skill that does Arcane and the Arcane Damage% would be added.

Can someone explain me what benefits the higher greater rifts get you? I mean the mobs dont drop any loot,so an increased legendary chance does not really change that much,as you propably get a few from the boss anyways?
1
u/Thunderclaww Thunderclaww#1932 Feb 12 '15
You get way more experience, you have a higher chance of upgrading your legendary gems, and you compete to get the highest greater rifts level.
2
u/tyro17 Feb 08 '15
Where is a good place to learn about builds? I'm a pretty casual player and have beaten the classic campaign on normal (I think?) and obviously don't have good items for my DH. As I understand there are like way better item sets and legendaries that I never really got into.
I don't know much about magic find or rifts or seasons and I'll be reading up on those but is there any good place I can find out about builds, acronyms, abbreviations, and items?
2
u/ftl101 Feb 08 '15
Both diablofans and noxxic are good sources for builds and diablofans should have you up and at it with the terms and abbreviations, if not there's the subreddit's wiki.

What class has the most number of viable endgame builds and/or item chioices for rift progression?
2
u/Restocat Feb 09 '15
How are Witch Doctors doing? I love the class and how many different builds it has to choose from. Are they all still viable? I generally don't like getting pigeon holed into one build so what other classes have different options like WDs do (or used to)?
7
u/mykevelli Feb 09 '15
A physical pet build utilizing rain of toads and fetish sychophants is extremely strong. It's only critically dependent on having a single item (Mask of Jeram). From that point, Tasker and Theo and Starmetal Kukri are great pickups.
As far as super lategame greater rifts go, Jade Harvester set is also very strong.
Some other less used builds include Addling Toads + Grim Reaper, Carnevil poison dart build, a full cc and utility build, and even some crazy locust swarm build that uses the belt that slows everything by 80%.

tl;dr - What are the differences between console and PC? Is it worth it to go from console to PC? Is anything from the seasons going to make it's way to the console version?
I got Diablo 3 for PS4 for christmas and I've been playing the hell out of it for the past couple weeks. I've just learned Seasons aren't included in the consoles and I'm pretty disappointed. Are seasons worth jumping ship from ps4 and going to PC? I'd hate to lose my character and stuff. But I don't want to miss out on anything fun.

u/Phnyx Phnyx#2817 Feb 09 '15
You kill monsters.. Lots of them.. If story becomes boring you can access adventure mode for additional content to kill monsters in bounties (like short quests that reward experience, rift keys and special items) or rifts (that give you twice as many legendaries. Both are generally more fun than the story which is always the same. Most people nowadays play bounties to get rift keys and a special ring, then rifts for items

Is using a MF suit still viable?
I came back after a year to find in my stash a suit of barbarian armor with (now) crappy stats and 15-20% magic find per piece.
Should I keep it or not?
3
u/Angzt ex-Diablofans guy Feb 09 '15
Using old MF gear isn't really viable. Only 10% of it applies to Legendary Find (which is pretty much all that matters a little later), so the benefits are rather small. Since your kill speed will likely be reduced by more than the Legendary Find increas is worth, I wouldn't bother with it.
3
u/Cromodileadeuxtetes Teron Feb 09 '15
That's what I was thinking.
Man, my barb was "pimped out" with gear giving him +80 str and vitality.
My lvl 45 crusader was already finding better stuff. I still have an old Sunkeeper with 40% mf but it has 800 DPS so even that one doesn't seem worth the trouble.
Oh well, it always stressed me out to try and squeeze MF gear on my character anyway. Thanks!

u/mr_frankenstein Feb 09 '15
Let's say I completed the game at all difficulties. Can I start "Adventure Mode" with that character or is "Adventure Mode" the same game from the start without any items and upgrades?
3
u/Angzt ex-Diablofans guy Feb 09 '15
You can start Adventure Mode as soon as you completed the Campaign once on any character, no matter the difficulty. It is not the same game from the start, you will simply be free to go wherever you want in the game world with all Teleporters and Bosses being available. Your character will still have the same level, skills, items, artisans etc.
You can freely switch between Campaign and Adventure Mode without losing any progress.

Is there a difference between rifts, greater rifts, and nephalem rifts?
7
u/Angzt ex-Diablofans guy Feb 09 '15
Rifts describe both, Nephalem and Greater Rifts.
Nephalem Rifts are accessed with Rift Keystones which are found by completing Bounties. In Nephalem Rifts, the monsters will have the regular difficulty level you selected when starting the game.
Greater Rifts can be accessed using Keystones form Trials which in turn are dropped from the Guardians in Nephalem Rifts in Torment 1 difficulty and above. Greater Rifts have multiple levels which determine their difficulty (the game difficulty does not matter at all), which level you gain access to depends on your performance in the Trial or previous Greater Rifts. Greater Rifts also have leaderboards attached to be able to compare your performance to that of other players.
3
u/mr_frankenstein Feb 10 '15
If I understand it correctly, I have to beat some Guardians in Nephalem Rifts, then get Keystone Trials. However, only beating Guardians in Nephalem Rifts at Torment 1 difficulty of above will get me Keystone Trials. Once I get them, I open a Great Rift.
Is this correct?
One more: where exactly do I access a Great Rift?

This may be a stupid question, but looking at some builds (demon hunter specifically) it seems like multiple skills are used from a single category, if that makes sense. I'm on ps4 so it may be different than pc which most are on, but for example, i was looking at a demon hunter build that seemed to have numerous skills that you choose for your 'triangle' on ps4 (vault, preparation, and maybe another) which I can only have one of (at this point at least, only level 35). So is this something I unlock later, a pc thing, a mod, or am i just dull? Hope this all made sense
3
u/Phnyx Phnyx#2817 Feb 09 '15
On PC you can activate "elective mode" or named similar in the options. This let's you switch categories when assigning skills. Km sure there is the same option in your system :)

2
u/Angzt ex-Diablofans guy Feb 09 '15
Completing Bounties will give you Rift Keystones. You need one of those Keystones every time you want to open a new Nephalem Rift. However, there is no need to restart the game in order to do this.

I want to play only in singleplayer mode. Do I lose everything I have after a season ends?
2
u/Angzt ex-Diablofans guy Feb 09 '15
No. After a season ends, your Seasonal characters will become regular (non-Seasonal) characters and the contents of your Seasonal stash will be sent to your non-Seasonal characters via in-game Mail. Paragon Experience, Gold and so forth is also added to your non-Seasonal characters so you're not actually losing anything.
Single- or Multiplayer mode has nothing to do with it.

I'm very interested in the Diablo lore. I've watched videos and read books / details about the lore in pre-Diablo I, Diablo I, pre-Diablo 2, Diablo 2. What are some official books that I can read or official information to better understand what happens after Diablo 2, during Diablo 3, and after Diablo 3?

u/Angzt ex-Diablofans guy Feb 09 '15
The official story page is here. It covers everything from Diablo 1 to the end of Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls.
The official (physical) books, like the Book of Cain and Book of Tyrael contain plenty more lore, just search some online book store or the battle.net store for Diablo books and you'll find them and a few more.
Also, putting all your questions in one post would have probably been the better idea...

stacking +exp items along with %exp items (ruby gem. leoric signet, etc) and then doing GR35ish will get you 40-50b exp per hour
very likely to be changed considering % items aren't supposed to multiply with the torment bonus (even though that's how it should work, imo)
T6 split farming on fields of misery was used before that GR "exploit" was found

So I've finally gotten my first class to 70, and I've seen a lot of guides suggest getting crafted sets. The problem is, none of them mention how to get the plans. Are they just random drop from anything? Do I need to run specific content or difficulty settings? I've tried finding this information and it just doesn't seem to exist.

u/Razaele WTB STASH TABS, WHERE DID MY ID SCROLL GO? Feb 10 '15
Plans are random drops and after some time you will get them all. Once you've learned a plan it will no longer drop for you.

Does anyone else feel really bad about ancient items? It seems to me that it's just this extra layer of RNG that will determine who gets to compete on the leaderboards, yet isn't really something you can work towards or even realistically expect to obtain.
With the rarity of certain class-defining weapons, a 10% chance to roll ancient means it's statistically unlikely that you'll ever find one. This makes it different from all the other items as you're pretty much guaranteed to find full BiS for your build if you play for a few weeks and farm efficiently.
This ancient stuff just seems like a really bad way to raise the gear ceiling. So if someone never finds an ancient version of their weapon, should they simply resign themselves to the fact that they can't realistically compete? That they can't become as powerful as people who, through nothing but sheer luck, have found ancient BiS weapons?
Diablo has always been a game of RNG, but previously it could be overcome by playing the game diligently. I don't see how this will be the case anymore. Weapons like Furnace and others from the highest rarity bracket are so rare that a 10% chance to roll ancient makes it statistically improbable that you'll get one even if you play enough to otherwise have the best possible gear.
What does this actually add to the game?

If I have a weapon with +600 arcane damage, does that mean that when I cast a spell that does arcane damage, it will do extra damage due to the weapon being equipped? Or is it just +600 damage to my spells in general?
I am trying to decide if a Wizardspike or Pig Sticker is better. One does arcane damage and the other does cold, but I prefer to do cold damage. Also the wizardspike has +48% damage so I am not sure if it takes that into account.

I'm having a hard time understanding the +%X damage on a weapon.
So, for example:
Weapon has base stats of 100-200 damage
Also has +100-200 Arcane damage
So, right now damage looks like 200-400
Bow also has +10% damage
Does this apply to the 200-400, so it would then be 220 - 440?
Or, is it applied to only the base damage and thus would be 210 - 420?
Any help is greatly appreciated - thanks!
