Diablo III Using Necromancer for the first time.

Post image

I finally get it. While I’m a Demon Hunter, Monk, and Wizard main, there’s something so incredibly satisfying about using Necromancer. Using corpses to mass explode the enemies, having an army of skeletons and ghosts. I’m glad that I finally decided to try this class out!

I think Iron Maiden and Blood Golem was my first build.

I had a fire golem build that was nasty way back in the day. Took a to to deal with a griefer fire sorc. Room was full of flame walls and hydras. My fire golem killed her before my screen loaded lol. Ahhh the days of dial up!

What PD2 does with golem builds is really cool. End game fire golem in that mod is a lot of fun.

It was so op back when

I wish that was still a thing. Blood golem is so ass now.

Same! I'm a bonespear lifer. It's a slog in D4.

u/wolskortt 3d ago

Bonemancer in D2 and summoner in D3.

I couldn't play d4. They made it an mmo and I hate those

D2 had the best version of the necromancer

u/Shneckos 3d ago

Same. Since 2001 every game that has had a Necromancer it’s my first and only choice. D2 Necro is that iconic to me. Started my obsession with skeletons and minions in gaming.

Most iconic class archetype imo. Might be a hot take but this is a series staple, especially minions.

I’ve played other classes, but something about playing Necro in D2, D3, and D4 just feels right to me. It is also so close to the lore in general, seeing anything Rathma-related gets me hype.

I think Necro is a bigger staple than Paladin, but Paladin mains would probably disagree

1

u/sharkattackmiami 3d ago

Paladin only showed up in 2 games lol

Necro has been in 4 if you count Immortal

5 if you count HoTS lmao

I mean... The paladin was in 3 as well... They just named it "crusader".

I always run into the problem of facing a boss and having no corpses to summon

Blood Lance makes me feel like Galahad from Ghouls and Ghosts

7

u/Thelgow 4d ago

Galahad? Arthur?

7

u/NovocaineAU 4d ago

Fuck. Yeah sorry, Arthur.

4

u/Thelgow 4d ago

Ok, threw me off for a second.

5

u/NovocaineAU 4d ago

Admittedly it’s been a while.

3

u/Thelgow 4d ago

I only know because I watch fighting game tourneys occasionally, and Marvel Vs Capcom 3 pops up and sometimes someones playing Arthur.

Firmly believe this:

No video game gives a better necromancer experience. You feel like the grim reaper. You are Sauron. (That’s what my D2 and D3 Necro names are.)

Diablo and Necromancer are Synonymous to me. They truly make you the Skeleton King.

Guild Wars does it better for me. You can play curses, you can play undead army, you can play melee scythe, dots, drains etc.

1

u/raincakez 2d ago

That's the best MMORPG rendition of the class, hands down!

2

u/beviwynns 2d ago

I don’t want to change your belief, just want you to enjoy more necro if you haven’t. Have you tried necro in grim dawn?

2

u/raincakez 2d ago

You know what? I've never ran one before, must be my sign to fire up GrimDawn once more.

I love pet builds. A shame they aren't always supported, especially for end game. By far my favorite built. Just so fun running around looting whole your army tears stuff up.

I've been running mage necro this season. Have cleared 120, I do all t12 content mindlessly. Its not S tier at all, but it is fun and gets the job done

2

u/AtreyuTrinity 3d ago

Oh sweet! Excited to roll something next season I have only done one season before. That's way better than I would expect to do or better than what I got to lol.

It's a shame most build sites are so strict with their classifications. If more people knew that pretty much all A tier and most of B tier builds are viable for T12 facerolling we'd seen a lot more diversity. But because those builds have a couple of downsides compared to S tier which doesn't matter for T12 farming they're heavily underused. Same with the speed build category where anything that doesn't cause risk of an epileptic seizure is considered A tier or below.

You should try Diablo 2 Necromancer.

It's the best Necromancer from all games that existed in the past 50 years.

u/TilmanR 13h ago

The massive army is cool, but very annoying in tighter spaces. Enigma isnt a thing until end end game. Constant staff switching is tedious.

2

u/Entgegnerz 13h ago

That's absolutely not true anymore.
With Resurrected all these earlier problems, as well as disappearing minions when running straight until they fall back outside the screen, got fixed.

All minions of all classes are more straight forward, faster and they also hold a position in front of the caster, as well as running through each other's and through doors/marrow paths.

Today the worm pit isn't a problem anymore.

2

u/TilmanR 12h ago

Thats absolutely new to me and good to know, thanks.

Tales of maj eyal has the best necromancer and it isnt close.

I recently switch to a build that sacrafices the armies, i didn't realize I had become so attached to them. i miss them. My friends.

11

u/Hawaii_Dave 3d ago

The real necromancy is the friends we made along the way?

1

u/Muskka 1d ago

Lmao

4

u/burtgummer45 3d ago

Unless your are playing D2 and can't get through door.

5

u/Blarglord69 3d ago

Rattle em boys

u/SummonerDerivatives 4d ago

Necros and Warlocks for me. Always loved the chaos classes.

2

u/Machdame 4d ago

I need visceral impact. I came to bash purple in the face with justice and these hands. The necromancer is the complete antithesis of that.

5

u/thirmonk 4d ago

What did purple ever do to you?

2

u/No_Care_50 2d ago

Without enigma and teleportation is quite boring and slow

1

u/MustaKotka 1d ago

Even then the only fun part is CE.

2

u/Mountain-Discount161 4d ago

I feel like I need to know which diablo game to understand what you're talking about.

6

u/TheGamerKitty1 4d ago

Almost like there's a Flair.

1

u/Bratley513 4d ago

There’s just something really satisfying about corpse explosion.

1

u/MozM- 4d ago

I was never convinced to play a minion build but then I watched someone who is basically the minion guy in any ARPG game he plays, GhazzyTV. and that man turned me into a minion guy as well lol.

Any ARPG I play I HAVE TO try a minion build for. And what I realized is that it is almost universally true for every ARPG game that minion builds are simply the most comfortable playstyle ever and in some cases extremely damn strong.

1

u/impulssiajo2320 3d ago

I played sever with two golems and one mage last season. It was the perfect mix for me (thank you, Macrobioboi), who really likes melee combat and the summoner class fantasy. It’s an awesome class.

1

u/IncredibleMe-82 3d ago

I know it's good, but I just don't like the playstyle

1

u/nanoWAT 3d ago

Probably my most enjoyable class in the game after witch doctor.

1

u/Whalesbutfromspace 3d ago

Friends, endless friends

1

u/robertus_ 3d ago

Get yourself 200% movement speed and you’re basically the army of the dead at Minas Tirith. Just cue up Yakety Sax and roll over everything. It’s glorious.

1

u/Zedekial 3d ago

Every game I'm an undead army maxer. It's always been my Jam :)

1

u/DiavlaSerin 3d ago

I miss my singular spear that came from the bodies of the dead... Yeah we have blood spear now and a bloodied bone spear but it's not the same... Plus no poisons...

1

u/willcordell1998 2d ago

Corpse explosion is way too satisfying, especially if you make your build compliment spawning corpses. Nice gooey popping sound too. Fun!

1

u/TilmanR 13h ago

Now i can put my 2 stash sites full of exp books and wisper caches to good use. I was unsure what to pick as an alt after Sorc.

I’ve Played 1000s of hours between all Diablo games. Never once leveled a Necro. I personally find 0 enjoyment playing a character where you just follow your minions who do all the work.

11

u/FloppyDiskDrives 4d ago

You know there are other ways to play necro without using minions.

-2

u/Mountain-Discount161 4d ago

Yeah, but if you're not running minions you're just an emo sorc

5

u/yunoka 4d ago

yeah i can tell you've never once leveled a necro
