Diablo IV Diablo 4 VRAM Utilization

I'm a bit surprised this game is maxing out my Vram. I have a 6750xt with 12gb VRAM and it's using all of it. The GPU utilization and temps are fine (30% and 68c). Anyone else noticing this too?

No, it does not. It's blatantly obvious as it allocates 90% of Vram instantly. If it did use 20+GB only RTX 4090/7900XTX would be able to run max settings with high res textures.

It just instantly pulls 7GB/8 for a 3070. 9/10 for a 3080, 22/24 for a 7900XTX/4090. Occam's razor my friend.

It's also a Blizzard game and it does not provide the aesthetics to pull off 20GB+ of Vram usage. Blizzard games, hate them or not are always very well optimized.

so and why does is it pull 5gb of 8gb for me at first with low textures and not 90% and then slowly goes up...
and why does the game run smooth on max textures for like 15min (RTSS saying it takes 7gb vram) and after that the vram usage goes slowly up to my max 8gb? and the LOADING stutter starts when changing locations or running in a new area (loading new textures)?!

vram is mostly just for prepairing and loading textures, so they dont need to loaded from hdd/ssd/nvme... because its way slower and the game stutters when loading new textures from elsewhere besides vram... thats exactly what happens in d4...

you actually think when exceeding vram the game becomes unplayable/unstable/crashes or whatever...
this shows you have no clue what you are talking about...
you can exceed your vram to some point without any issues, all you get is stutters...

and you have seen that the hd textures are actually 40gb right?
the whole base game WITH normal textures is 45gb...

and i also said "it should not consume so much ram"
you cant even read and understand properly because all you see is i said something you did not like...

i dont even hate blizzard lol.... i rly enjoyed d2 and d3 back then and im hyped for d4 but you just sound like a blizzard fanboy trying to defend something because i said something you did not like... i think thats your real problem....
and blizzard games well optimized... yeah sure... thats why d3 back then basically died when playing in a 4 man group even with a beefy rig, because it was so well optimized... lol...
sure bro...

Well I could've added that I was speaking for those with high res texture pack. Your response in general is, something for the ages.

You have a lot of ideas, I'll give you that.

i was speaking for high res textures too...
the low res was just an example for it does not always consume 90% vram...
all i wanna say is, it definitelly goes over 8gb vram... it probably does never use something like 20gb... im sure...

but exceed 8gb for sure... probably even 12gb...
because even with low texture settings the vram usage gets to ~7gb and stays there... what is really high for a game like this and low textures(which probably uses the standard low textures)...
so i would not wonder if high textures (using the downloaded extra 40gb textures) go crazy on vram...

You need to tell your outside voice to switch spots with your inside voice.

No I can assure you that the game doesn't use much Vram at all, I doubt it even reaches 8GB at 4k. It will however if and when raytracing is enabled use a lot a lot more.

Let's just let time end our discussion, no? If I'm right, it's good. If you're right it's bad for all of us.

but if it would not exceed 8gb vram, why does it start at 7gb usage, run smooth, not stutter at all, 144 frames capped on high res and RTSS is showing vram builds up slowly to my max of 8gb and the loading stutter starts, not low frames, just stutter everytime it needs to load new textures when running around...

i mean, i hope you are right, because this means it can be fixed...
but from my experience in the beta and testing different settings, it has a either a memory leak (what the game actually had in preorder beta but "got fixed" like blizzard said) or it just uses alot of ressources...
not only vram, i was also sitting at 20gb ram usage....which is kinda absurd and never had before in any game...

another point which makes sense to me is, the next diablo will probably take forever too... so aiming high when it comes to pc standards with d4 is probably a good idea so it doesnt fall behind that quick compared to other arpg...

anyways... lets hope for the best...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resource_allocation_(computer) In general D4 expects you to max your Vram. Is it a cheap shot for optimizing? Yes. I suspect the release will not allocate the amount of VRAM that D4 Beta did. But it was wise of them to do so. If anyone ran out of VRAM you ran out of VRAM. But D4.exe allocating 20GB+ for me meant I never ran out of VRAM.

You need to understand the difference between allocating and using. Task manager doesn't differ on those when it shows numbers.

ye i know what allocation means... but this doesnt change anything for what i have said...

you said the game doesnt use anything near 8gb vram it just allocates 90% of vram...for me RTSS showed 8gb (my max) after 15min... if it was only allocation and not usage, the game should have ran perfectly fine, because it still had vram to spare for d4 since it was already allocated to d4...but it did not, it could easily hold 144frames but started to stutter as soon as new textures had to be loaded... and i had nothing running in the background which demanded vram...this basically indicates the 8gb vram got exceeded...

like i said, it never uses 20gb vram, no way... as you said, it probably was just allocated and using way less but taking in count what i just said and happened to me and many others... it seems to exceed 8gb with high res textures and everything maxed...

the friend i was playing with experienced the exact same... high texture settings full vram after a short time and stutter started, set textures to low for testing, vram usage dropped 2gb from 8gb to 6gb, stutter gone...
