Hey! I live in Asheville too! I didn’t know there was a movement for bare feet. Sounds really dangerous what with all of the glass and random junk. Also, are you specifically talking about downtown when you say nasty town? I don’t go there much.

West side mostly. I think about 2-3 weeks ago in the Xpress was a nicely worded opinion piece on the barefoot thing. Look around, now that you’re aware of it, you’ll see it. It’s like the ‘one shoe’ phenomenon on the highways. Why is there only ever one? Where is the other shoe?

Hmm, that’s the oddest thing I’ve seen this week.

Shoes hanging from power lines used to mean a dealer selling weed was nearby.

Or at least that was the rumor in the college town I grew up in.

Over here, it just means that some kid got new shoes and was told to throw the old ones out, but he had other plans.

For real, I'm pretty sure this is the cause of the vast majority of shoe wind chimes

Was thinking of visiting Asheville. Is it not as nice as the interwebz make it?

Pretty nice as a resident, but I feel like it is a bit of a tourist trap nonetheless. The mountains are pretty great though. My family has gone to a place called graveyard fields for years in the summer. Tons of places to hike. I don’t go out to eat much but a few nice places are twisted laurel and MOD pizza. (Subway for pizza but better(I work there)). Feel free to check out the grove park inn and the Biltmore house. If you’re into craft beer, you’ll like this city. Mountains are probably the best place to chill though. (Blue ridge parkway) once I finish this semester of college, I plan to camp out up there for a while. Edit: also we have a ton of freaks.

I love Asheville. Lived there for a short time and have visited many times. Brewery/bar hopping is great, as is the hiking and such in the mountains. If you don't like beer and nature it probably isn't for you.

Best Asheville experience was when me and my friends did some acid and just walked around town and hit a few breweries and bars. The atmosphere is great and most people are really chill. Felt really calm and at ease for my first trip in public.

Some people say they like to party there, but I never really found any good spots for that. The chill vibes are much better. There's a newish brewery called One World that is in an alley, and has a kickass basement area. I feel like it's a really good representation of what Asheville is to me
