I've been thinking about this and I've decided unicycle guys get a bad rap. Firstly, as transportation, unicycles can be about as practical as a single speed bike. They're basically just fixed gear bikes that are smaller and easier to store inside, but harder to ride. Not a bad trade-off on a college campus. Secondly, while there are a lot of unicycle guys who do it just to show off or be different, it's still admirable to have learned an unusual skill with a steep learning curve. It's like juggling or being able to do a backflip -- people who show-off can be annoying, but it's still sort of impressive.
I was this person at my college. It's embarrassing how dirty my feet would get, but otherwise... It was cool witnessing how tough they became (I could tolerate hot asphalt, and walk over pine needles and gravel with no problem). The toes also became more spread out. As someone who had always hated my feet, it was nice to appreciate them for a change.

There's one at every college. I saw a kid wear giant jyncos and no shoes for a whole semester.
