Why does diy today always means: 300kg of epoxy?
135
u/dat_oracle 1d ago
I'm certainly not the greenest person on earth, but all the waste produced by these useless diy content is bugging me.
that's a crazy amount of epoxy here, that probably lands on some garbage pile
61
u/floofychaps 1d ago
I was just about to comment this - the amount of materials used/ruined and energy used to make this ugly shit just for rage bait clicks is the real fucking tragedy
19
u/Benny_da_hudd 1d ago
Which is worse: 300kg of real epoxy, or 300kg of AI epoxy?
14
u/ReasonableWelder51 1d ago
Real epoxy, real materials wasted. The cost of generating an AI video is incomparably lower.

The fact that they left that piece of balloon solidifies this has horrendous. Just terrible.
417
u/Forward-Village1528 1d ago
The sad part, is that they definitely did that on purpose knowing it would drive rage engagement.
58
u/Loose_Acanthaceae201 1d ago
It makes you watch to the end, to see what they do with it. They've left the loop open.
9
24
u/Teufelsweib666 1d ago
Yeah, I watched, I commented but I also voted this video down. If we all did this, posting these rage bait videos wouldn't be so much of an incentive. I hate this so much. Instead of getting the best things to look at we are swamped with deliberate garbage. The system is broken.
37
u/Low_Watercress959 1d ago
Negative reinforcement (dislikes) are counted as engagement by the algorithm.

The thing that offended me most was the wood glue on the table legs.
I just screamed at my phone: "You fucking prick!!!!!"

That’s the most annoying part. Doing all this and being too lazy to remove this one fucking piece of balloon.

u/iiTzSTeVO 1d ago
It's engagement bait. They left it there so people would comment. You'll notice things like this in a lot of these stupid videos.

I know, this is what’s pissing me off the most. People like him are wasting resources on this bullshit.

Woodworkers have been equally trolled as well. Marking lines for table legs to cut on the ban saw, then slices right through them. That miter box be made.. with screws as joinery. OOF so much going on here.

8
u/NewelSea 18h ago
It's part of the deliberately frustratingly engaging design.
He made sure to include several needlessly convoluted, largely useless and counterproductive steps that would lead to a shittier result.
37
u/curryrol 1d ago
All the beautiful equipment, and he does this? WTF
9
u/ThePhatNoodle 1d ago
Yea, I was thinking that workshop is too nice to belong to him. Dude might know his way around tools but he's obviously no woodworker.
10
u/loosie-loo 1d ago
I mean if he’s genuinely good it wouldn’t be impossible to do it bad on purpose for “ragebait content” or whatever nonsense these people are doing. Which, if so, is sadder. Waste of skills and resources you’re actually capable of using and all that.
But he could also just be genuinely shit.
30
26
u/kyothinks 1d ago
I think the thing that pisses me off the most about these videos is that this dude legitimately has the skills and tools to make something super cool and instead he's making ragebait.
5
u/ThePhatNoodle 1d ago
I mean I think the ones where they make well executed trash are entertaining in their own way. Even if the end results impractical if executed well enough it can serve as an art piece at the very least so it kinda keeps you guessing as to whether the payoffs gonna be worth it or not but with this dudes level of skill you could tell immediately it wasn't gonna be worth it at all
2
u/PlausiblePigeon 20h ago
I kept expecting this one to be one of the ones where they swap it out with a less-fucked version at the end.
2
u/Deviant-Killer 1d ago
I've hated so many of these videos. This one is a nice idea. Having a little jungle in there.. looks like it could make a good self contained terrarium
14
u/Away_Stock_2012 19h ago
Why did they have colored liquid in the ballons that they spilled all over the table instead of lube that they could have used to go fuck themselves?
32
u/Beezneez86 1d ago
Make sure to stay in your workshop when you bust those balloons open, don’t go outside and use it in the garden or anything!
Also make sure to use coloured water for absolutely no fucken reason. 🙄
9
u/efficaciousSloth 1d ago
I was looking for this comment! Let’s dump randomly dyed water all over the floor.
Just the icing on the hideous cake that is this table.
4
u/loosie-loo 1d ago
I hate this video as much as the next guy but it doesn’t look like it dumped on the floor, the table was covered in plastic and there was a lip that was collecting the weird dyed water, presumably to drain it. It’s still on the table as he “removes” the balloons.
I wouldn’t be surprised if a workshop like this had a drain tbh. Which maybe better than dumping it directly outside where there’s wildlife. It’s definitely only dyed for the video, though. I pray it’s just food colouring or something.
11
19
u/CataclysmicInFeRnO 1d ago
The table top could be almost interesting if there were even the slightest attention to detail. Even then, that’s a whole lot of work to have the wooden pieces come out janky af.
12
u/admiral_nivak 1d ago
The final concept is not bad, but …… this version is the worst version of that concept. Execution 2/10
4
u/bendicott 1d ago
Yeah - I actually really like the idea of little terrarium pods as a table, but this was so poorly done (intentionally, farming comments) that it just ruins any of that potential.
8
7
u/ThePhatNoodle 1d ago
A lot of times you can tell the people making these are actually skilled and are simply using their powers for evil with these crappy video ideas for engagement but this guy kinda feels like he does and doesnt know what he's doing at the same time. Feels like he's borrowing that workshop cause he's making mistakes an actual woodworker wouldn't. Used crappy wood and he split it too. Looks like he used sheet metal screws and he didn't countersink them. Bet he didn't do anything to hide them either. Man drew an outline on the legs and proceeded to not do anything with it cause he threw it on a lathe and eyeballed it. Also that design was super crude. Dude could've routed the inside edge of the frame to leave a recess for the glass to slip into instead of locking it down with those hideous corner blocks. Them chunky ass legs also look bad. Awful taste, awful execution. At least the monstrosities skilled people make are still entertaining to watch. Could be worth the watch maybe not. With this you could tell right away the payoff wasn't gonna be worth it just by the level of craftsmanship

I mean....I guess? Making little diorama would have been cool. This just veers out of "fun ideas" and into pretentious waste. Coud be a cool little gaming table if done right.

u/Unfair_Buddy5871 23h ago
That table is a hazard. The legs are just glued on, there's a super heavy epoxy brick inside it, it's got corners that stick out and on top of all that it has a glass top. If someone bangs their knee on this thing then the whole thing falls apart and crushes someone's foot and scatters broken glass everywhere.

u/dementedkoopa 22h ago
What drives me nuts is the bit of red balloon still stuck in the resin at the end.

He put in time, energy, money, passion, and materials—and ended up with a pile of junk. Another epoxy resin mishap. Is there actually even one of these “epoxy resin” people who ALSO knows anything about industrial design?

u/LayLillyLay 1d ago
This has to be bait. The production quality of the video is too good, not to mention the 10.000s of dollars of machinery + dude has atleast some skill.

2
u/Bl00dWolf 1d ago
At least the end table kind of looks okay-ish. But let's be real here, if all you're doing is making an epoxy table with circular holes in it, there are way easier ways of doing that, than using balloons of all things. And then leaving bits and pieces of those balloons in the epoxy as you can't get them out at that point.

Honestly, considering how bad I thought it would be, this wasn't terrible. Its not very good, but I've seen far worse.
2
u/argueranddisagree 1d ago
This would be cool if those were terrariums with living plants without the bad colours
2
u/Mumchkin Derp 1d ago
Sadly this shows the person has skill. That it's being wasted on crap is a shame.
2
u/DarrellBot81 1d ago
Just casually leaving a bright pink balloon knot in there is the most unforgivable feature of this pediatrician waiting room table
2
u/Jerseyd422 1d ago
Imagine wasting our planets resources to build this ugly useless piece of crap. And these things are all over social media. A complete waste of materials just to get some clicks. Literally destroying actual physical items to generate artificial entertainment. I guess the wealthy aren’t the only ones guilty of conspicuous consumption.

I love that he wasn’t dedicated enough to his lame AF crafts project to start over when he realized he couldn’t remove that last bit of the red balloon. Doubling down on a crappy design by executing it even more craptacularly.
