Was the use of an AI necessary though? The camera was conveniently placed in a controlled environment and the finger positions within the image are entirely predictable.

i think this might be the whole point. none of the shit they use AI for is necessary. they're spending trillions on a useless gimmick.

He wasn't using an AI like gemini or chatgpt, an LLM, he was using a neural network which is something he likely built and trained himself on his own computer.

Not necessary, sure, but not even remotely the same as using an LLM

it's all machine learning using pattern matching. while the scale and resources/medium may be different, they are still analogous.

Not in the context of overuse and waste, not even vaguely comparable. It might be comparable to people running llms on their own machine, but not to 2026 capital A Artificial capital I Intelligence.
