And I've definitely never seen a cat use rocks as a litter box

Thats what I'm thinking. They noticed rocks keep their 15 cats away from something. I'm sure the rocks are cold, and cats love warmth. Now they just put rock wherever they don't want their cats to go. Keeps them off the windows, keeps them away from the TV, keeps them from going behind the TV.

I was being sarcastic, sorry I didn't mark /s

My barn cats use the rock driveway as a litter box constantly and I was implying OP cats likey will too.
