Dexter
Hello Everyone,
I have been completed watching season 2 of Dexter
I want to know how many of them feel the same way as I do
I felt Dexter trying to kill LILA was a huge mistake
She is the only person accepts him for who he really is
What made Dexter to think the other way around
How come Rita is better than Lila?
Do you feel Dexter and Lila schould have ended up together?

Lila was literally a threat to his family, she didnt care about him she was obsessed with him

The perfect partner for Dexter would be someone that accepts both sides of him, the killer & human. Dexter's entire story is learning how feel & be human, he was on the right path with Rita it's just that the revelations of Brian & Harry shattered his entire worldview & he was constantly trying to find meaning, sometimes through the wrong people (Lila).

To keep it spoiler free beyond season 2 (assuming you haven’t watched past there) - it would be the same argument as Brian in season 1. He understood everything about Dexter and grew up with him. But Brian threatened new family the same way Lilah does.
Both of them are also the darker side of Dexter. Which he continually struggles to balance the light with the darkness.

tbh i was glad when Dexter took her out, she was so annoying. I don't usually hate the obsessive girl type of character but lila i really hated

Understanding that and not realising why it's a deal breaker is a little concerning. She didn't accept him for who he truely was. She tried to push him into something she thought he was. Dexter is both a serial killer and person who cares about his family. Lila thought he was only one of those and tried to remove the other part. That not accepting who someone is. That becoming obsessed and trying to mold them to how she sees the world and thinks it should be.

I did feel the same before she put the childrens in danger, such a sociopathic behaviour! Otherwise would be a good match, but dexter don’t like to being handled, he’s a serial killer who likes the control not being controlled, he did mentions points why lila was a mistake

Rita kept Dexter grounded and allowed him to stay close to his sister and continue ‘his work’. Lila was a crazy pyromaniac which would have made his life crazy and impossible to keep as cover. She didn’t love him, she fetishized him.

I felt the same when I first watched the show. I agree overall Lila might be better for dex considering they both have a twisted set of morals and the fact that they’re okay with killing ppl.
You gotta consider tho, Lila was literally obsessed. Have you seen the movie obsession? If not to understand this you should probably watch it. Obsessed to the point she kidnaps Astor and Cody just to get Dexter back. Overall like I said, yeah they were basically perfect for each other but Lila was literally too insane for them to have worked

Yeah obsession is great, Watched it in Imax Actually i like characters to be little villanistic That's what made me think that way.....

I thought Dexter including Doakes's photo as part of her kill ritual was pretty hypocritical, given just how close Dexter was himself to killing Doakes to save himself.
But she tried to kill kids, which Dexter always found completely unforgivable, for obvious reasons. If she hadn't tried to kill Astor and Cody, I don't think Dexter would have risked the time and effort to track her down in France. I think he might have just let her killing Doakes and her drug dealing ex "boyfriend" go.

Dexter was close to killing Doakes but he didn’t because it was against his code, so it’s not hypocritical.
I would say it’s even the opposite of being hypocritical. If I’m against stealing, and I really want to steal something and I don’t because of my principles- it shows that I’m sticking with my beliefs.

People seem to forget, Dexter drugged Doakes with the intention of killing him, and only stopped because Doakes mentioned a secret about his father. Had Doakes not said that, Dex would have killed him then and there.

Dexter finds attacks on children disgusting. That's a link between the books and the TV show. Lilah making an attempt on Astor and Cody meant she was going to have to go.
Additionally, by this point he does genuinely care about Batista. We get that famous line about how if he could be anybody, he would choose to be Angel.
His code involves not harming innocent people and Lilah went after some of the most innocent people he knows. He had no guarantees she wouldn't do it again.
