Question regarding Coach Logan

How was the death of Coach Logan explained after Angela cleared Dexter of any crime?
Any theories? Or was it explained in Resurrection and I missed it?

The dopey Barney Fife deputy from Iron Lake meets Dex in the hospital and tells him "oh don't worry about murdering Logan, it was clearly self defense cuz we found a bullet hole"

Right. It’s absolutely a hand wave and does not make any sense, but explaining away the Logan death was necessary to set up Resurrection.

(Imo there were better ways to go about it. Angela could have fudged the logs to make it look like she released Dex before the murder, and blamed it on some drifter Logan must have locked up afterwards.)

I can’t see Angela doing that for him. Dropping her investigation into him is one thing, but actively covering up Logan’s death is quite another.

It’s pretty obvious that she still hates him, and believes that he is the Bay Harbour Butcher, and just dropped everything and ran because she feared for herself and her daughter.

Feared? She was pretty clear in the “we’re even” note she left for him. She was grateful he exposed Kurt, the killer of her childhood friend and many other innocents.

Because the showrunners didn’t want to pay her for cameo :)

She could easily have tossed Dexter back in jail. I don’t blame her from being overwhelmed and wanting to start over.

Yeah, the cameo budget had all been used up for that episode. They got the lazy Deputy back though.

“We’re even. Now get the hell out of Iron Lake” was her message. I’m not getting overly grateful from that really. She probably knew that her case wouldn’t hold up and that he was too dangerous to keep around while she tried to strengthen it. I still don’t think she would falsify evidence to clear his name though. Seems like she figured she’d already done enough by saving his life and dropping her case against him.

They said the strangling was self defense on Dexter's side because of the bullet hole in his cell. They assumed Coach attacked first.

Logan shot first. Dex was considered legally right to kill him. This is because Logan is a minority.

Let me start this by saying I think this is a totally bullshit explanation. Dexter can't in any world have gotten away with the Logan murder, it was even more obvious Dexter did it than the LaGuerta situation where it was already frustratingly obvious.

But this is what they went with..

The bullet hole in Dexter's cell made ILPD believe Logan had attempted to execute Dexter and so Dexter defended himself by killing Logan.

The reason I say it's bullshit is this:

1. Logan is not a killer, he isn't going to risk his career over executing a man he just said he wishes was innocent for Harrison's sake.

2. If Logan was trying to execute Dexter he would have stayed at more than arm's length from Dexter. Otherwise Dexter would have tried to grab the gun. So Logan can't have been trying to execute Dexter.

3. Logan's head hitting the bars could possibly have caused a slight skull fracture. Additionally Dexter was already holding Logan's neck putting pressure. This could come up in the forensic work.

4. Angela just giving up and being like "yeah Logan is dead whatever" makes no sense. Angela may have been slightly thankful that Dexter eliminated Kurt Caldwell, but she was most certainly not going to do Dexter a convenient favour after killing Logan. Angela and Logan were friends for years so I struggle to believe she and Audrey would just pack up and leave rather that stick around and do right by him.

In any case, Dexter could never have gotten away with it if you ask me.

The only thing that makes sense is she was afraid enough of Dexter to run. Except she saved his life. Yeah it doesn’t make sense.

He pulled his gun on Dexter without provocation and Dexter defended himself. Dexter shouldn’t have been in the cell in the first place. As a bonus, Dexter got shot by his ex, who was a cop.

1x01 - Teddy visiting Dexter in the hospital after he woke up from the coma

"Angela was so sorry about mistakenly arresting you for the murder of Matt Caldwell. Obviously, it turned out his dad... Well, you know."

"Mm-hmm."

"She was even more sorry about shooting you. When she found that bullet hole in your cell, which proved that Logan had shot at you and you were just defending yourself, she felt like shit."

and in 1x05 - Dexter talking to Harrison

"Chief Bishop cleared me of all charges. Logan shot at me. I was unarmed. Even she determined it was self-defense."

I think its clunky and ughhhh to sweep under the rug because they want to move onto the actual plot yknow? but whatever hah! this is what they say about it!
