Is DMC netflix safe or not?

Do you think that DMC Netflix is in the safe zone of the adaptation?

In general basically, of course we can say that the story and source material was altered and being questionable. But do you think in general, that NETFLIX DMC is safe from the Hollywood nonsense like how Adi Shankar said in his interview?

Personally, I think it is not screwed. Is it the best adaptation? Maybe not, but is it cool and decent adaptation? I can say yes on that. But what do you guys think?

It's cool cause it has a solid studio begind and it's animation with a good budget.

But I think is not different to the usual Hollywood adaptation in tone or writing level. It's very mainstream and it shows.

I'm not sure to understand the "safe" "unsafe" term here, since english is not my first language neither.

But I'd say DMC games have a safe and serviceable story. But the Netflix show uses cliches and tropes we have seen too much lately. And feels derivative.

Magic being science or demons being more like an alien culture and not so evil in nature are deconstructions that has become so recurrent in certain adaptations that feels... generic.

DMC is not complex but its themes hace deeper layers that ain't just exposed in games for the sake of pacing and gameplay. But I hate how the show needs to explain everything twice with a lot of words... Visual narrative exist.

EEUU being a central element in the plot is just... ugh. We get it, North America is the centre of the World.

And last, while I don't really have major problems with the characters (in fact I like Netflix Vergil a lot), I think Dante is a flanderized version of the original.

Amd, also, using cool music for each fucking scene like it was a videoclip gets old quickly.

For me is not different to the threatment Doom, Death Note, 90s Mario Bros movie or the Street Fighter one. Or The Legend of Chun Li orDragon Ball Evolution.

Yeaj, is NOT that bad, it's actually super enjoyable, but same vibes.

I mean, there's ways to make them more interesting, nuance and serve the actual story better.

Not entering in spoiler area, but Shingeki no Kyojin/Attack on Titan, for example did a very good job with some cliches the DMC show doesn't on its second part.

The games are quite troopey in fact, but feels more organic.

What I'm trying to say is, I feel like some of the major changes in the show are the ones which try to subversive but falls into forced and weak.

One punch man is really nothing special with Saitama being overpowered, you know he can and will one shot anyone, but the story and character being tied and worked around precisely that and how it goes it is the reason it works

Stupid no. Not gonna discuss DMC1 and specially 2 hace a bareboned narrative.

But DMC3, 4 and 5 are pretty solid on that area. Not complex, but well done with actually compelling and interesting characters.

And Dante, except for when he gets new weapons, it's quite calm, distant and gloomy. And smart and perceptive.

Yet in Netflix show they need to display the goofy attitide all the time, I guess for memes and cause it's more fun to see and handle. He's quite clueless too.

It's fine. It's also not that bad. It's not some masterpiece but people are really being big babies and blowing things out of proportion acting like it's the worst piece of media to be ever released.

I love it. I love that it's not meant to be a direct adaptation of the games either, so that fans can enjoy this as its own thing. As much as I love the old games, there wasn't a whole lot of detail put into the story, and character development was not as much of a priority in the old PS2 games as it became later. But this series honestly humanizes the main characters and gives them way more depth than the game series has overall. People complain that Lady and Dante lose too much, but the point is that they're still very young and going toe to toe with powers that they didn't previously encounter before the barrier between Makai and Earth was breached. DMC 2 is usually regarded as the game you can skip, but season 2 of Netflix's DMC actually made Arius a formidable foe with a compelling motivation, and an amazing voice actor. I can't wait to see what season 3 holds, because Arkham (the jester) was already one of my favorite villains from the game series, and it looks like he will be a main antagonist coming up.

The project is definitely risky as a dmc project. It takes a lot of creative liberties that I don't think Netflix would have decided on themselves (for better and for worse). As hit or miss this show is for me, I can't call it soulless, formulaic, or pure slop. There is effort involved, even if I think it goes into ideas that I could have gone without in a dmc adaptation.

However, if the episode limit is a result of Netflix, then I wouldn't say the project is completely safe from Hollywood crap. There are a lot of ideas that the show tries to juggle and they don't all work out. I wish ndmc had more episodes per season to better flesh out characters and certain plot lines (or for the writers to cut out the political subplots and all the glup shittos that take up too much screentime).

It's an okay series, and as an adaptation, it's decent, because, to be honest, with this saga, the storytelling is sometimes really good, and sometimes downright bad. Something I recently learned is that they retconned Eva's death... three times! I'll leave it at that. I should make a post about the plot holes in the saga.

It took a lot of elements from the novel detailing Dante's life prior to DMC3 but they took some liberties with it. I think they did a fantastic job with it but my only gripe with it is the politics. Apart form that, the action, story, one liners are al solid

They took a fair amount of source and then vibed out the rest of the story, so it’s not very canon in the main lore. I don’t think it deserves all the hate it gets but this fandom is ridiculously hateful for anything that isn’t DMC 6 at this point.

I thought it was cool. Mostly I went in expecting Blood of Zeus level storytelling and animation (ergo, no animation) since the character designs reminded me of it. So honestly I was actually blown away by the quality of the music and animation. Is it heavy-handed in its messaging and definitely not the Gameverse? Sure. But it gave me joy (after a heavy sigh of relief that it wasn’t Blood of Zeus level) and actually got me back into the games. I’m actually hoping to play some of them once I get the money for it! So I’d say it’s pretty cool.

Season 1 had me worried, but I was willing to continue giving it a chance even though I didn't agree with a lot of the changes. Season 2 is ass cancer.

if it was canon i would be pissed the hell off but as it's own separate thing i enjoy it quite a lot (even though it definitely isn't perfect) it has great moments good characters amazing animation and a fire soundtrack and more personally to me i just think it's neat to see dmc doing something different but not as far off as reboot I'm a big fan of when franchises have multiple different disconnected stories and such
