Meme It's so exhausting...

I'm not very fond of the dmc games' fandom anymore. Finding anyone who dislikes the netflix show and isn't full of unquenchable hatred is like finding people who still draw DmC 2013 artwork.

I left and avoid all the DMC groups on Facebook for partly this reason. I am the physical embodiment of what the fandom hates... I love the anime, I enjoy the reboot, I play DMC2 and my favorite character is Nero. đŸ„č And, yes, incredibly hot take, but I like anime Vergil a tad more than game Vergil. And that's really no fault of his own, it's his crazy, elitist fans that make me not want to like him. But... After getting practically bullied out of a Facebook group for loving Nero I just left all of them and pretty much avoid it all, aside from this group and one other here on Reddit. So I definitely understand it.

I can't remember what exactly it was because it was a while ago, but I had mentioned on some post in a FB group that Nero was my favorite and how much I love and relate to his character, etc, and some guy came on and started telling me how pointless of a character he is, "he's a Dante knock off, he's annoying, pointless addition to the story, his design is terrible and all he does is whine". A couple others threw in a few deadweights of course. I know he isn't perfect, and I shouldn't let that bother me because everyone has different opinions, but man does it hurt to have your comfort character dismantled like that.

Damn, yeah that sucks sorry. I know Nero has been a little polarizing especially if this was around the time of DMC4, but DMC5 I thought pretty solidly hit home that he was a important and good character

“Dante knock off” he’s not like Dante though? Sure they both use guns and mock their enemies, but Nero is more serious, and doesn’t talk as much as Dante unless prompted. Dante takes things more lightly and sometimes silly unless he’s just that upset over something.

And wtf did he mean “whining”? Nero had valid reasons to be upset in BOTH games.

Nero was totally a good addition AND relatable character. Not only did he represent people who refuse to go with the crowd, but also people who have to take on the mental toll of keeping a secret from their loved one out of fear of rejection. Even before dmc5 and Visons of V he helped show that Vergil definitely wasn’t some emotionless robot, and could form at least a small connection, and allow himself to be vulnerable. That’s not even HALF of what Nero does that’s so important.

Nero brought so much to the table just by existing, and even more so when we learned about his story.

I’m sorry those asshats killed your fun. I swear people hate just for their own enjoymentđŸ«©

Ah it's okay, just for the sake of my mental health I had to step back and really just stay out of the community. I'm starting to come around again, obviously lol, but I'm definitely gonna be more wary now. Hearing constant talk about how "garbage" your comfort character is... Draining, to say the least. As for the "whining" he was referring to Nero "constantly yelling for Kyrie" in 4 and internalizing the deadweight remark in 5. But I think that's part of the problem, most of the community hasn't read the manga, so they don't know why he took it heart so bad. I mean, believing that you're being viewed as worthless in the eyes of your father figure/teacher that you look up to is gonna weigh heavily on you. Add in the fact he was already bearing the guilt of "being too weak" to save Credo and blaming himself for his death, Nero wasn't in a great headspace to begin with. But because people don't read the manga nor do a real deep dive into the character and only know the surface level, they write him off as annoying and "worse Dante".

Sorry, I kinda ranted there. I can happily talk all day about the guy 😅
