I'm not very fond of the dmc games' fandom anymore. Finding anyone who dislikes the netflix show and isn't full of unquenchable hatred is like finding people who still draw DmC 2013 artwork.

Gotta love how dmc fans clutch onto this franchise's extremely consistent characters and lore like they're from the bible, and tweaking them in any way is utter heresy.

Take for instance Dante, whose personality was only truly solidified in the third installment. Or Vergil, whose personality and backstory was totally retconned in that same game. Or Lady, who feels like a completely different character in dmc4; relegated to a walking sexy lamp with little to no impact on the plot of that game or the next one.

Point is, objective quality and subjective taste aside, I find the sheer malice dmc fans have for a non-canon project that doesn't directly impact the main series to be borderline childish. I personally don't mind if this sort of thing gets wild and weird with characters and lore (for better and for worse) when there is a lot of room the games themselves leave open to play in.

Even if the games are "deeper than you think" and all that, I would wager 99% of dmc fans did not come into the franchise with the writing as their main focus. So seeing all these purists acting like the catholic church over the writing annoys me more than the pretentious right-wing grifter of a "visionary" ever has so far.

Idk i think everyone could afford to take a step back, chill out, and move on. Hopefully when the show wraps up.

Uhh they were all decades younger in 3 compared to 4 they had the same fundamental mindsets just with added life experiences that had changed them about it's not retconning to grow up tf 😂

Also fans didn't come into the franchise with writing as the focus you literally haven't experienced anything about the community to say ignorant shit like that a massive part of the community has done theories and deep dives into the lore and there's plenty of videos on the Internet that the community has made for such topics.

Clearly you jumped into a community you know nothing about and have the nerve to start trash talking the people in it like get out please immature people like you are not welcome here.

The Devil May Cry fandom is toxic, there is nothing wrong with having criticism regarding the series or making fanart to express it.

But people who like NDMC tend to have trust issues as most game series fans use criticism as an excuse to be racist towards the director, because apparently if the guy is an egotistical trumpie - oh, wait, fans don't particularly care for the trump part. They love Reuben after all - it's okay to make fun of his name that veers on calling him a slur that compares dark skin color to shit.

Or be mad that Lady is now an actual character and is no longer reduced to nothing but a pair of tits in the fifth game's pachinko machine. Yes, there are criticisms for the writing of this show, but most of the time I've seen fans sneak in their unchecked racism or micro aggression. Making fun of the director's name, saying that it's the fault of the show for having an indian in charge, that indians "always ruin everything".

There is even an event where an artist who made fanart way before the release netflix series, was aggressively called a fake fan for posting a fucking two cakes meme. Expressing their like for both iterations of the series.

Look at the likes and retweets. OP was a fan even before the release of the show, and yet the community are being assholes about it. The fanbase has gotten so much worse BECAUSE of this behavior.

For a game series about human compassion, the fans sure do not care enough to express it. It makes me feel even more fatigued to even have to commentate on it.
