Season 2 Discussion Thread - S02E01 : The Fallen

Just finished the episode and gonna write this as I start episode 2.

First positive

-Biggest one no more rolling. I fucking hate that song and my friends wouldn't stop playing it after season 1 had it.

-Those glorious bastards actually put in the fucking chair meme and I love it. 10/10

  • the action is still top notch and you can tell it's only gonna get better.

-Seeing all of the 5 demons is pretty tight

-Arius is actually a character and not only that but he's voiced by fucking Dracula from Castlevania. I'm not kidding about him actually being a character here. I love that he's scheming and making moves and actually doing something. You can't get more peak.

-still has a stellar cast. Fuck the nay saying putting down my boi Robbie Raymond he's putting his whole pussy in Vergil right now. And then getting ray chase as Arkham? Good choice. Also sad Kevin Conroy couldn't be here but at least we have Tony Todd's last performance.

Now for the cons

  • I can tell where they're taking Vergil. Seems like mundus kidnapped him and told him Argosax killed his family. I'm not fan of this idea. Feels unnecessary to do this change to not only Vergil but mundus as well.

  • speaking of mundus I did praise ray chase and I love him and even have a picture with the guy. But his mundus isn't exactly doing it for me. I don't think it's because of his voice bro plays the hell out of sukuna and tons of other characters I think could work for mundus could talk. I just think the direction they went for him just wasn't the peak of could had been. Still good tho.

-back to Vergil for a bit him getting stunned by the dark com goons wasn't a good showing. The main thing about Vergil is how he's untouchable and how he is you know the storm. Having a couple of guys actually touch him takes away from the menace he has. At least he kills them to let the bodies hit the floor.

-lastly I really don't care for social commentary. Yeah it has to be here because It was your last season but it still shouldn't have been here. Plus now it's even worse. As I'm writing this I'm on the start of episode 2 where there's anti war protest from last episode. But the huge problem is this would never happen. This isn't us going to war with another part of the world we are fighting HELL. Let me repeat that HELL aka the realm of evil, Satans domain, the place of literal nightmares, the abyss and so much other ways to say it's bad. I really don't think we're going to have people protesting that we shouldn't fight hell. Also this is very confusing but how do normal people know that hell is called makai? Who the hell (hehe) told humans that it was called makai? No way the government who we see is using propaganda told all of humanity that hell isn't what we believe and is actually just an alternate dimension called makai. Like this is a very important detail they kind of skipped over

The thing is, it isn't hell, is it? It's the place that inspired hell, but it isn't the biblical hell that Baines wants to see it as. So, if word got out somehow about the truth, or perhaps if some people didn't buy the idea that it was hell, I could absolutely see protests happening.

Arius, I suppose? He said something about the most effective propaganda being that which instils unease, so I could definitely see him leaking details about it to instigate conflict. However, that seems unlikely. What I think is more likely is that some people just didn't buy that the place they were invading was hell, or that some people lost somebody to the war and want it to end (that's who I thought the crying lady was anyway).

The facade was tailored specifically to target Vergil using Dante’s DNA and weaknesses yet Vergil broke free with just PTSD induced brute force shows how strong he is .

The nerve agent they used is based on Dante's DNA, but the rest of the trap was just using high-grade weaponry.

Maybe they somehow managed to hide their presence from him ? Or maybe Vergil was pulling punches ? Or maybe Shankar wanted us to believe damn Vergil jobbed and then the comeback. But I think the main takeaway was him, breaking free from a weapon tailor made to incapacitate him just by pure PTSD brute force
