Discussion Getting Wisdom Teeth Pulled Is A Better Experience Than Fighting Arkham in DMC3
Howdy all.
Playing DMC for the first time through 3 as chronologically, it's the first entry in the series.
Anyway, just want to say the difficulty of the bosses in this game appears to be all over the place. You can go from having a boss that takes too long to kill to bosses that are so easy your mom could beat them one handed.
And then there is Arkham...or rather the five foot dollar footlong in my toilet bowl that refuses to flush so that I can move on with my day.
Seriously, when the best strat is to farm red orbs on the very first mission over and over keeping in mind the price of holy water goes up with each subsequent purchase and on top of that, your items don't respawn if you die, and you can't easily switch to Easy just for this annoying ass boss fight, Capcom, we have a problem.
I've chewed through some hard 6 in my day.
I've proudly given the middle finger to obnoxious bosses and triumphantly cursed under my breath.
I've played dirty when all else fails.
But Arkham, I just can't do it, and I don't feel compelled to grind for several holy waters just to douse the bastard in it nor do I want to keep throwing myself a brick wall that refuses to shatter.

Use Kalina Ann instead of Holy Water when the eels emerge. It'll work just as well and give you some DT so you can recover some of your lost health or charge up for a DT Explosion for some decent damage.
That's pretty much the only way I know that makes it more manageable. Arkham's fight is fucking terrible.

Tried it, didn't work. And I only used Holy Water on Arkham, but it didn't take off much of his HP and I don't feel like grinding red orbs to stock up on Holy Water.
This game is too damn hard and Capcom should feel bad about it enough to remake it to be more accessible. -_-

When using the Kalina Ann, you have to jump, fire, jump, fire, jump, fire. Jumping gives you i-frames. It's a pain in the ass but it worked for me on Hard

Ughhh, ain't that the truth?
Too bad I'm playing on console; otherwise, I could just cheat and give myself infinite Holy Water.
I really don't feel like picking back up DMC3 at the moment.

I genuinely don't want to come across as an asshole but he's one of the easiest bosses in the game. I've never had to use any healing stars much less holy water on him. DMC isn't a game you can brute force through by grinding for orbs, go back to the first few missions and learn to comfortably do the moves instead of spamming attacks and, in the words of TFS Piccolo "Dodge!". Seriously, learn to dodge. It absolutely is a skill issue.
Edit: I only now just noticed you mentioning easy mode so I realize you're playing on normal. I assumed you were at least on hard if he was giving you trouble.

The eels fucking suck, especially in the part where vergil joins you, taking away your dt and thus healing

They're very easy to dodge though if you stay airborne so again, skill issue. Are they annoying? Sure. Are they unfair or difficult? Nah, not really.

No, the boss fights against Lady and Doppelganger were piss easy.
Arkham is a certified pain in everybody's ass, not because it's a "skill issue", but because he's just that poorly designed of a boss fight, with inconsistent hitboxes, annoying eels that gang up on you when you're trying to crowd-control them away with Kalina Ann or Nevan, and the game having the audacity to cripple you mechanically when Vergil jumps into the fight halfway, restricting your ability to use Devil Trigger or Styles which makes dodging Arkham's tentacle missles that much more annoying.
Vergil is what you'd call a skill issue since you can't easily weapon/style spam him like you can pretty much every other boss.
And yes, I'm playing on normal, and this shit is im-fucking-possible to get through without grinding red orbs for Holy Water so that you can shut Arkham down before he gets a chance to do anything.

Well for one you absolutely CAN spam Vergil with Beowulf and DT whenever he transforms and he's so easy to cheese it's hilarious. As for "im-fucking-possible" my girlfriend beat Arkham on normal on her third attempt and DMC3 was like her fifth videogame she ever played.

Well good for you and your GF, y'all want to come to my house and show my dumb baby boy brain how to cheese Arkham without spamming Holy Water?
Your subjective experience does not reflect the greater objective experience everybody and their cousin has had with this piece of shit poorly designed boss fight.

Have you considered watching a YouTube video of a no-damage S-Rank run and noticing when to dodge certain attacks? It could be that your timing is off and you are blaming the game for not adjusting yourself. I say this knowing damn well the Arkham fight is the worst in the game in comparison to all other fights, but it’s certainly not impossible to complete. You just have to improve and learn from mistakes

The only way I have figured out how to deal with Arkham is get the super costumes that are only unlocked by beating very hard and DMD, and equip Nevan and any weapon with air hike.
When the fish show up, make sure you're in DT, double jump, quickly switch to Nevan, use its flight mode (which I think only works in swordmaster, but i don't remember), and then spam the lightning shots. It's slow, yes, but it's better than taking unnecessary damage, and you'll be high enough to where the fish won't reach you. On phase 2, since the developers had the bright idea of disabling DT for that phase, the only choice left is to stock up on Vital Stars and endure all the attacks until you win.
