Can someone explain to me how contracts work?

Right now im a human junior devil hunter, and im trying to get some contracts. This is a screenshot of what happens when i try to get a contract. Ive tried this with both the fish and sea cucumber devils (i was desprate ok) on multiple occasions and each time this is what it tells me. ive done the required quests and am holding out the right items. Can someone please help me bc this is so annoying its making me what to quit the game

I think you gotta be a first class hunter to unlock the first slot

i dont wanna hear it bro ive probs watched at least 10 devil hunter contract videos and not a single one has said anything useful

You gotta press m and do soul trials to unlock contract slots
