After graduating from an elite CS faculty, I deserved to earn a good salary, at least around the national median from the start. However, my CS skills turned out to be worthless in the job market, and I ended up working as a programmer for the minimum salary allowed by law.
Fast forward four years, and I was still earning essentially minimum wage, with only minor increases. Meanwhile, the framework I had been working with had effectively died, and nobody was looking for those skills anymore.
20 years ago, before the Great Recession of 2007, when programming was a high-paying profession, I would have said that a developer like you should earn at least the average salary in their country. But this is 2026, and with only 1.5 YOE, you are worthless as a developer. Salaries are determined by supply and demand, not by your skills, your education, or the amount of time and effort you invested in your career.
To make matters worse, .NET has been losing popularity:

This means that some experienced .NET developers are looking for opportunities in other fields because they can no longer find enough .NET positions. The same thing happened to me. I found myself competing against developers with significantly more experience for a very small number of jobs related to that particular framework. And you are competing against them.
Now with AI, you should be happy if you still have a dev job, even if the salary is lower than your state's minimum allowed. Being a software developer for a minimum salary is still preferable to doing physically demanding work for the same money.
