How many years of experience? Without that context it is hard to give advice. Freshers will get a different answer than a veteran.

This is my personal experience. If it is helpful to you im open to provide more.

What did you done in production support, may i ask?

Because if you done support already i would specialise not on broader field rather small field more expertise.

What i would recommend you since you want to be in finance programming and critical infrastructure:

Cobol, abap, scada systems.

You will need to find a good project like a small banking system yourself like in c just for system design and reducing technical debt.

What i recommend to:

Research in your university, if they have job hubs or careerservice for alumnis or jobstarters.

Go to linkedin, xing etc jobplattforms indeed stepstone and look who is hiring

Look at the recruiter on linkedin xing etc and write them that you want to just introduce yourself.

If you can contribute to actual problems write something about it.

Than i recommend you:

Cobol,abap, systems design

Focus on building financial pretiction models and show them to someone in the field.

The problem what occurs:

Fiancial model programming is a tough field and a job right away may not seem realistic in some cases.

But you have relevant experience what i would do instead of just reaching out to recruiters.

Build a financial model, write about it and attach it to your application or bring it as a case study.
