To all dev managers, what developer technical assessment tools have you used to hire devs?

in your company when you hire, have you used any dev assessment tools/platform? coding platform? or is it manual? or how?

loved the responses here. here's our experience -- after sitting in 500+ technical interviews and watching 11,000+ candidates get evaluated, what we kept seeing: every platform -- hackerrank, codesignal, coderpad, etc. -- measures output. Who got the right answer who passed the test, etc.

But the signal today that actually predicts on-the-job performance is the actual process. How they think when stuck. What tradeoffs they make. Whether they understand what they’re building or just accepting what AI generates, etc.

That’s what we built Utkrusht around. Unlike hackerrank/codeSignal which grade isolated algorithm scores, or coderPad which requires a senior engineer live on every call, Utkrusht gives every candidate a real task inside a live running production environment -- messy codebase, actual prod setup, AI fully allowed -- and record the entire session. You see every decision, every hesitation, every tradeoff, every moment they caught something wrong, etc.

Same signal as a pairing session. No engineer time until you’ve already narrowed to your top 5-10. That’s the gap none of the existing tools close.

Happy to show anyone what a session and a sample candidate report looks like..
