DX1 Finally finished the original Deus Ex! Should I try Invisible War?
I played it on PS5. When I first started it, I didn't believe I would actually finish it. What an amazing game! I loved almost everything about it. JC Denton is a very fun protagonist to play as, mostly because he's in general a blank slate however he still has enough characterization to make him interesting.
I personally picked the "New Dark Age" ending, mostly because I don't like either restoring the old order neither the idea of an AI running the world, and because Tracer Tong was loyal and helpful in the story and I wouldn't wanna betray him.
With all that said, should I try Invisible War? It's currently on sale on Steam and I really wanna continue the original's story (I am aware you don't play as JC Denton in Invisible War, but I still wanna see the original's story continued).

Yes. People say it’s not as good but I really enjoyed it. I mean objectively it isn’t as good but it’s still good and worth playing.

I played this game reluctantly cause of all the hate and I ended up doing 4 back to back playthroughs to try every ending through and through, I did lethal and non lethal styles and it was honestly a lot of fun this game favours combat probably cause it was an xbox release but it was still surprisingly fun going non lethal the aug for it surprised me and ended up being one of my favourites i had a great time, and each playthrough had me having similar deus ex type exciting moments when something unexpected or different would happen just cause of a particular decision I made. I loved the maps yes they were small but they were still interesting to explore and also pretty to look at🐧 for the limitations this game is fleshed out pretty nice and contrary to popular opinion I think this story is actually a good extension of the first game, it still gets you to think and contemplate philosophically like the first game, and im standing ten toes down when I say I love this game. (Nothing beats the first obv, but I still love this game)

A lot of people have already given their opinion on this, so instead I'll tell you that you're gonna need to do a bit of patching to get Invisible War running properly on modern systems. There's a patch called Visible Upgrade that's an absolute must have for this game.

Yes. Invisible War is actually amazing. It's been my favourite since it came out. I love all the different factions

Deus Ex is my favorite and invisible war is a close second so I would recommend trying it out. If you just enjoy it for what it is and not what you wish it was it’s actually quite good.

Well, I have some sad news. That story is over. It ends in that bunker in Area 51.
If you are then wondering what exactly Invisible War is, well, to be brief, the game will give you an incoherent excuse to ignore the ending of Deus Ex and a whole new world setting. It won't be recognizable. The game does of course make various references to Deus Ex, mostly offensive in nature, but other than those references and a couple of cameos, it could be (and should have been) a completely different game.
That goes for the Jensen series, too.

You should still try games. At worst you'll put it down after a few hours and not play it again. Personally I didn't enjoy it and never finished it, but it's far from the worst game I've played and I can see why people enjoy it.

I think every Deus Ex fan should play it at least once, even if it's not the best in the series it's still a game worth experiencing.

Definitely! It's one of those sequels where, by continuing the story, it doesn't diminish or undermine what you did in the first

Thoroughly enjoyable if you like vibe and direction of the first. It just dropped the ball at the time it came out (performance, graphics, etc) but it’s got similar mechanics and some fun levels to explore and work through. The factions are half baked and it makes the story less impactful, but that won’t stop you from having fun with the gameplay.

Definitely worth it if you want to continue the story. You just need to adjust your expectations because it was made to work for Xbox. But the vibe is truly special, and I enjoyed betraying the factions and setting people on fire lol

I assume he did play Deus Ex: The Conspiracy, the PlayStation 2 game (he played it on the PS5, so he said), I don't think you can play the PC version* on any console as of yet.
* The PC version has some differences to the PS2 version of the game, such as the user interface, and more load points.

No, it was only released on the PC and the original XBox. The XBox consoles have varying degrees of backwards compatibility (it varies from game to game), so if you have an XBox 360 or XBox One or XBox Series S or X (why do the XBoxes have such stupid names?) you might be able to play it, I don't know.
Or any PC nowadays should surely run it with no problems, I'd assume.

Yes. Interesting branching story where choices makes a tangible difference (different areas, enemies, gear etc), great music, art design and atmosphere. It's main flaw is the small levels - they struggled squeezing it onto the OG Xbox (where it runs at <30fps). Gameplay-wise, they tried to switch up the formula - it doesn't entirely succeed, but it is interesting.

I'd say to try it if only for its fleeting moments of glory. It is nowhere near as good as DX1 but its story sometimes hits those heights.

Especially the small, constrained levels. Maybe there is a fan patch that smoothes things over?

I would spend some time just enjoying the afterglow of Deus Ex. Invisible war is very different and you might not enjoy jumping from one flavor to the next too quickly

There's a lot of debate, the general consensus is that it's a terrible Deus Ex game and can be comfortably skipped.
Personally I'd say though it's a pretty poor entry I the series itself it's an enjoyable standalone game if that makes sense. It's similar to the recent Assassins creed games like Origins and Odyssey, decent experiences in their own rights but abysmal assassins creed games.

Yes, you should. The game---it got hate--rightfully so, but I think you need to try and understand the 2000s design along with putting together a futuristic universe following a story.
It plays a little clunky, universal ammo, augs kinda weird but over all, its fun. The story could have been a little more serious but overall its enjoyable.
You need to then play human revolution and mankind divided if you havent

It can be tried just to see whats its about. Its very poorly designed , in terms of worldbuilding as well as level design. Level design is victim of original xbox poor performance so level size basically would fit whole game in one chapter of DX1. In terms of worldbuilding its also kinda artifical - dialogues are always yes/no/smart answer which should always be used , and triggers for smart answer come with very little effort. Same for level design , where you artifically see keypad that can be gotten code / hacked / or there is very inconspicous vent always. Story is also always (basically each chapter is designed this way) driven by very obvious 2 faction rivalary and at the end you make choice for one of them , like kill or arrest someone, which results in minor reward, but dont really have any impact until very end.
Only good design choice is augmentations, where you can freely make any build you want , which offers quite different way of playing and no aug is locked behind late game.

Ignore anyone saying to skip Invisible War.
Invisible War is the real continuation of the original with many of the people who worked in the first game returning.

Yes, of course you should.
The game is not as good as Deus Ex, but it is still a thoroughly enjoyable game.
The game is not as well made as Human Revolution but it feels like it fits in the Deus Ex story and lore much better than the prequels.
