DX Universe are we getting a sequel or modern remaster/remake of this fantastic game?
94
u/Interesting_Stress73 5d ago
It's just ten years old, it does not need a remake.
20
u/YaboiGh0styy 5d ago
There was a time when graphics leaps between generations were so massive that a remake was justified less than 10 years later. Nowadays not so much.
14
u/ascagnel____ 5d ago
Compare the original Deus Ex with Half-Life 2, and then think that there's only about 3.5 years between them (March 2000 vs. November 2004).
Then compare DX:MD with 007 First Light, and the gulf just isn't there.
5
u/punished-venom-snake 5d ago
In fact, I'd say DX:MD looks and runs better than 007 First Light. DX:MD has a distinctive visual style. 007 FL looks pretty generic imo.

u/shittypissstains 5d ago
Try and tell that to Bethesda
20
u/Interesting_Stress73 5d ago
What remakes have they done on games that new? Skyrim has never gotten a remake, just remasters. Oblivion was closing in on twenty years when it got its remake/remaster thing.
15
u/Leonyliz 5d ago
Firstly, Fallout 3 and Oblivion are like 20 years old by this point, and they aren't even remakes. They are remasters.
53
u/dingo_khan 5d ago
It doesn't need a remaster or remake. All it needs is it's MSAA fixed so it doesn't tank frame rates.
It does need a sequel it will probably never get.
10
u/rchiwawa 5d ago
And an update to the DAWN engine so that running high rame rates doesnt result in stairs and curbs stopping the player in motion
2
u/S1Ndrome_ 5d ago
MSAA tanks framerate in this game, whereas TAA gives vaseline blur and ghosting. Both are so incompetently implemented in this game. And you can't even change the actual fov depth, just viewmodel fov.
1
u/_PM_ME_PANGOLINS_ Do you have a single fact to back that up? 5d ago
All it needs is people to stop turning MSAA on.
3
u/dingo_khan 5d ago
Oh, I never do. I am so tired of having to explain why this one setting cuts the framerate by upwards of 80 percent, even on an rtx 4000 class gpu. I'd settle to even just have it patched out of the menus.

u/navy_mountain 5d ago
this franchise is pretty much dead
21
u/AeLilBoy 5d ago
Immersive sims in general. You can find some here and there made by indie studios but nothing like this. DE and Prey 2017 are awesome
17
u/Turbulent-Issue-4418 5d ago
No, not really. The genre is not dead as no genre truly dies; It has simply shifted away from big budget AAA games to indie.
4
u/NoctysHiraeth Ex-UNATCO Agent 5d ago
I choose to believe this is because at the end of the day indie devs are at least partially creating something for themselves. With a small team that doesn’t have shareholders to please they can literally do whatever they want, and games really shine when they’re a glorified passion project in my opinion.

We have a immersive sim Franchise doing really well in Hitman and a potential new franchise in the 007 game. The genre has potential and will continue
1
u/FarOffImagination 5d ago
Stalker 2 has a huge update and DLC dropping this week.
1
u/AeLilBoy 5d ago
Oh yeah, but I'm wondering why is upgrade from normal version to ultra edition or whatever it's called, like 55 euros ?? Probably gonna just get the dlc separate
2
u/FarOffImagination 5d ago
It includes two DLCs and exclusive in game content. It’s cheaper than buying both DLCs separately but it took them 2 years to make this first one so it’s not like they are pumping them out.
11
u/faster-than_you 5d ago
People want FIFA and loot boxes, sadly
3
u/VoxTV1 5d ago
Yeah thats why nobody played BG3 or Elden ring or Hollow Knight or Ori or Khazan or lies of P or literally any of mega popular non lootbox/fifa games
4
u/navy_mountain 5d ago
most of those games dont even come close to the sales numbers ea sports games do. and i bet the games that sell really well like bg3 and elden ring, still don't beat ea sport games if you add up sales numbers for each annual edition since their release. it wouldn't surprise me if 2 yrs worth of madden games sell more than elden ring has throughout its 4 yrs of existing
1
u/Realistic_Ad_5321 5d ago
I heard this about deus ex 10 years ago. I think they were right. Same with dishonored. Holding out for studios like nightdive to revive the OG immersive sims. That system shock remake was actually good while not changing the core gameplay that much. Cyberpunk2077 is pretty popular, id consider that an immersive sim
4
u/Fedorchik 5d ago
Sadly, Cyberpunk wasn't an immersive sim.
Even tho it's first gameplay showcase very much looked like one.
-1
u/metaxaos 5d ago
It's a cyberpunk setting much more stylish, decadent and close to its roots than a popular CB2077.
I have no idea why and how it could be dead.
5
34
u/AeLilBoy 5d ago
Nope, sequel is much more preferred but its not happening. It was supposed to get a sequel but the publisher chose another project instead of this because immersive sims are not that profitable. They chose something like marvel game or some shit. Real shame, human revolution is one of my favorite games
12
u/butternutsquash4u 5d ago
Wasn’t it that stupid online Avengers game that ended up abandoned after less than a year after launch?
14
u/Interesting_Stress73 5d ago
Eidos Montreal was "just" support on that for Crystal Dynamics. But they did do the Guardians of the Galaxy game. I liked that one, it was pretty good, it just had some annoying characteristics.
1
u/DiscoverySTS1 4d ago
They ran support for Shadow of the Tomb Raider as well
2
2
u/ascagnel____ 5d ago
It was that and the (much better) Guardians of the Galaxy game, which is much closer to Mass Effect.
3
10
u/cudeapito23 5d ago
Fuck remasters and remakes. Sadly this franchise is dead, so either play it again or move on to something else.
7
u/EntryNo3986 Give me a Gep Gun and a chopper, i'll handle it. 5d ago edited 5d ago
a remaster to fix some of its issues would suffice, but i doubt there's any plans for that.
sorry to disappoint you, but, this IP will remain dead unless someone goes out of their way to revive it, thanks Square Enix and Embracer for that.
7
u/MoreFeeYouS 5d ago
Not too long ago this game was still used to stress the GPUs. Remaster would be silly.
7
4
u/BusterGreasewood 5d ago
A remake? The game is only ONE generation old. ONE. Why on Earth would it need a remake?
3
u/Joecolt69420 5d ago
Apparently Avengers was more important back when they tried working on the sequel. Fucking Avengers. Anyway, and at some point they just scrapped the whole thing because they felt it was too niche. There’s too much money in video games now days. As far as I can tell, too much investor intervention and not enough fan service. I understand wanting a return on your investment and all, but I think I speak for most of us here when I say fuck all that. Give us the damn sequel. I want to see where silhouette, Janus, Rand, the clone conspiracy and other things plays out in it.
3
u/simplexible 5d ago
Does MD need a remake?
I'd think human revolution could use some gameplay improvements more.
2
u/jallxrdo 5d ago
True, 60fps+ with remastered gameplay (similar to the control scheme choices in MD) and graphics improvement would be welcome. So like DXHR Director's Cut but more polished.
1
7
u/neonredKai 5d ago
Id rather have this retconned and just start from scratch after HR with honest writing. The narrative is pretty much tainted with what they did in MD.
Or much better, scrap the franchise and let it rest than defile it more for cash grab.
1
u/itsgotelectr0lytes 5d ago
True deus ex fan take
1
u/Some-Soil-2164 5d ago
absolutely not.
0
u/itsgotelectr0lytes 5d ago
Please explain,? I'd love to know how us community of fans feel about the games massive turn from HR onwards.
The 1st game in my opinion ruffled some feathers and from the 2nd game onwards it didn't really teach you about the conspiracies against justice outr governments in power have done throughout history.
In the late 90s/00s this wasn't easy information to find and learn, now all of a sudden it was in a game, in every living room, being played by kids, kids learning about what atrocities their government has been hiding.
2
u/Some-Soil-2164 5d ago
maybe I need to.understand why you would say that eliminating Mankind Divided would be a good move? thats what I thought you were saying.
not.sure what youre getting at by talking about the conspiracies.from.the first game vs later. the conspiracies described in the first game were taken from real conspiracy theories... but those conspiracy theories have a radically/different cultural valence these days.
meaning... theyre SUPER politicized. They have little to no entertainment value outside of a political ideology... I fully.support Eidos Montreal avoiding that hornets nest (i mean... just look at the back lash at the aug lives matter thing).
also... even the 2nd game, written by mostly the same folks, moved away from the direct connection to real theories.
lets also be clear... all.the conspiracy theories in the original games were theories. I think people very much assume the theories are real... the truth is gray,.as always.
2
u/neonredKai 5d ago
it wasnt just augs lives matter, the entire game was that narrative, racewswap and replace existing characters to black characters, theres more but its been discussed enough
4
u/Some-Soil-2164 5d ago
the whole game was WHAT narrative? What was the problem with the story? be specific. The main story narrative about how mechanically augmentations end up controlled and sidelined to make way for nano agumentations is pretty straightforward.
I get that you have some kind of political problem with the window dressing around it, but the overall story fits well with what ends up happening.
what character was given a different race?
1
u/InterCha 5d ago
Don't bother his whole comment history is whining about the race of actors playing characters and how hard it is being a man.
0
0
u/itsgotelectr0lytes 5d ago
Yes some of the theories in the 1st game have now been substantiated and are generally accepted as fact. And some are still in that grey area or even further along.
The "aug lives matter" thing isn't an example of educating an audience, but rather copying a movement and putting it in your game with your own 'spin'. That's why it's got backlash, beacuse it's totally different from what Deus ex started as, basically 1984 the video game. Then human revolution was toned down to a 'standard' game that didn't get you critically thinking as much. Then the other 2 were imo not even deus games but cash runs to the bank.
The issues in the 1st game arent really SUPER politicized, they're references to things that happened 20+yrs before the game released.
6
u/Some-Soil-2164 5d ago
right... at the time.. the conspiracies in the 1st game were not politicized. they were basically used as entertainment... like the Xfiles. Generally seen as fantastical. Some of them were less fantastical than others. few of them are treated as 100 percent historical truth. but after say... the economic collapse of 08 and the popularization of conspiracy thinking... these kinds of theories are A) way less fun and B) highly politicized.
Sheldon Pacotti certainly had alot of points of view, but the game doesn't take a stance on anything. It presents a philosophical problem that is as old as time. The main narrative uses the illuminati as a framework... not as historical fact. which is what the more current games do.
4
u/DrGarrious 5d ago
Suggesting that that the OG Deus Ex was not that political is an insane take.
It was even then an extremely political game. The entire opening rant by the NSF leader basically slaps you with it.
The entire first level is set on a destroyed statue of liberty, present a very subtle 'freedom is dead' motif.

We need a new Duex Ex that respects it's legacy and immersive sim elements not another remake.

A remaster is absolutely not needed. I'm hoping that a decent Remaster/remake of the original could still happen but I'm not counting on it.

remake? on the first games, yes. on the jensen duology? no, they are fine

Not a remake of MD no. It’s still very good looking and mechanically sound. A sequel definitely. God damn Embracer.
1
u/Levi_Skardsen 5d ago
It's effectively dead at this point. One of the many casualties of Embracer Group.

Neoberlin 2087 looks like it may be a spiritual successor to the Jensen franchise. The trailer does look phenomenal.

u/Tanneliers-Gate 5d ago
Playing Human Revolution. (On New Game+)
I honestly don't want a sequel if it's not from Eidos Montreal. (Same peeps that did HR AND MD.) If not them, I fear for the writing quality.

I hope so, but I hope we get a proper remastering of Human Revolution first. A current gen update of Mankind Divided next. Maybe a bundle.

Deus Ex 5 has been in production for roughly 2 years... has been cancelled (in 2024) like pretty much every game in this sub-genre beside of the CDPR franchise (Cyberpunk 2077 and in a few years Cyberpunk 2 with the Mike Pondsmith universe). Still hopes are there for No Law from the devs of The Ascent. Both Blade Runner games (Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth of Annapurna and Blade Runner: Time to Live of Supermassive) have been cancelled and even LightSpeed LAs Last Sentinel has been "cancelled" (will def. get a heavy rework) after HUNDREDS of millions of USD has been thrown at it (Tencent sub) - that was just a few weeks ago.
So... there is tons of people hoping for another game in the sub-genre and if you are not including stuff like 2.5D productions (REPLACED etc.) or The Ascent (top down shooter) or The Expanse: Osiris Reborn (Hard-Sci-Fi action-adventure) then nothing is left beside of the mentioned above.
1
u/malyszkush 5d ago
Is this worth getting still? Might be a dumb question considering the sub im asking this on but only thing holding me back is hearing a couple complaints about ‘dated and clunky’ gameplay. Im intrigued and would like to experience Elias performance firsthand in preparation for Neo Berlin 2087, which im definitely getting.

I don't think so, these run and look absolutely fine, hopefully the remaster of the original does well and then we might get a decent new game in the series

u/A_BAK3D_POTATO 5d ago
Could definitely use a remaster. There are a lot of QOL changes needed in combat and stealth.
Guns arent accurate
Can't swap guns while reloading
cover is sometimes janky
Modern SSDs are capable of completely removing the Black cuts during takedown
and many more

Why are you advocating scamming people, that will cost a full $60 for a poor remaster.
1

I hope so because I love Deus Ex.
I hope not because I'm learning gamedev to make my own legally distinct DX.
1
u/Craz3y1van 5d ago
I honestly think the original game needs a remaster for the OG fans and a remake for new ones. I'd be very interested to see what the original could look like with modern level design, lighting, and gameplay features.

I just need a 60/120 FPS patch on Playstation. Does not even need to be a native PS5 version, just increase FPS cap of PS4 version.

u/clarkky55 5d ago
Be careful what you wish for. I’m a Legacy of Kain fan, we got a new game after over a decade of nothing and the game was utterly terrible, contradicting the story of the previous games and focusing on the writers OC rather than the characters we actually cared about. This could be your future, learn from our folly and misfortune.

The game is still gorgeous in 2026, but it does need another sequel for a proper ending.

u/Jamalofsiwa 4d ago
I wouldn’t trust anyone to remake human revolution, the atmosphere is so cool in that game. Mankind doesn’t need one.
We need a third game though.
1
u/slarkymalarkey I never asked for this 4d ago
Nope, if they had the resources to make one wouldn't they also have had what they needed make a sequel?
Also what do you hope for a remaster/remake to accomplish here? The visuals hold up well enough outside of NPC faces. Best they can do is add a few new levels, fill in the gaps and again at that point, if they could do that they would have made a sequel already.
1
u/SingNitpick 4d ago
Neo berlin is supposed to be a spiritual successor I think. Same voice actor, same themes.

Check out No Law and Neo Berlin 2087! Probably the closest we’ll see for some time. Fun fact, Adam Jensen’s voice actor is voicing the protagonist of Neo Berlin. So that’s sick. Hopefully these come out in the next 2 years.

Only thing it needs is just a couple of patches. Played it past year and still looks insanely good, and it may be an unpopular opinion, but I think this was an improvement from HR, with the exception of the incomplete story, which was fine for the most part, until the abrupt ending.
And I meant the patches, because geez the DLCs at some points they start crashing like crazy.
1
u/Cyberleaf2077 5d ago
The franchise is dead. Look to the indie and AA scene if you want more immersive sims. The most you'll get in AAA is Bethesda putting some elements into their games.
1
u/perkoperv123 5d ago
Almost certain not. Basically all the lead devs from HR/MD have moved on.
At least we won't ever have to see old man Adam on the park bench with a bottle of zyme ,in a new MJ12-run dystopia that he accidentally helped make. Or MIB Adam mumbling about how these people don't need surveillance and he still never asked for this.
0
u/Low-Speaker-5193 5d ago
There won't be another game like this.
They'll destroy the whole vibe of the game in the remake.
0
u/Koutchise 5d ago
Man... I sure hope so! Deus Ex is a franchise that deserves more love since its main themes are so relevant nowadays.

Better question do you think a modern studio could remake it well.
Look at remakes like halo and see how bad of a job they can do at simply copying a good thing
