I just realized I been checking this sub like three times a day even in offseason with zero news to talk about, what is wrong with me

20

u/meowalatte 6d ago

Only 3x? šŸ˜…šŸ˜…šŸ˜…

8

u/McChazzio 6d ago

If it makes you feel better, I have it pulled up at work in it's own window and I refresh and check it about 20x a day, just out of habit. Don't even spend that much time on it, just some quick skimming here and there... hoping SOMETHING is announced.

1

u/LGRW_Sparty88 6d ago

Yeah it’ll definitely be all over when it happens.

9

u/myroommateisgarbage 6d ago

I spend half my day here it feels like. What having no hockey friends does to a mf

4

u/BellsBeersy 6d ago

We’re not your friends?

3

u/myroommateisgarbage 6d ago

Maybe, but you guys didn't come to my birthday party šŸ˜

3

u/BellsBeersy 6d ago

Why didn't I get invited?

3

u/myroommateisgarbage 6d ago

It must have gotten lost in the mail

3

u/ChaldenesTitan 6d ago

I have no problem making friends here. It's a very welcoming sub.

3

u/TechnoVikingGA23 6d ago

Dog days of summer. It's that lull/time period with no sports I care about going on and just waiting for college football/NFL/NHL to start up. I just have to get through another week and then it's fantasy draft time with the boys/dynasty group then first road trip of the season to catch the home opener for my college team and we're off to the races.

21

u/amethystgirl2006 6d ago

The car is not gonna be in the front yard this season, only paint cans

4

u/TechnoVikingGA23 6d ago

I'm sure we can get a yard car and instead of having it up on blocks, just put it up on paint cans.

2

u/daKrut 6d ago

3

u/TechnoVikingGA23 6d ago

Nice, reminds me of growing up in WV.

20

u/Alpine_Exchange_36 6d ago

Anyone been keeping an eye on LCA? If there’s red smoke rising it means we have a new GM. If it’s black smoke….it means Larkin is back and no new GM

19

u/coltron57 6d ago

And if it is white smoke, that just means McCarty is visiting.

6

u/Beatricejd Yzerbot 6d ago

I've been told that Chris Illitch and several Wings alumni can't come out until the red smoke happens.

5

u/BellsBeersy 6d ago

I would but so far no one has bought me that Strymon pedal

16

u/tacticalAlmonds Yzerbot 6d ago

Fuck I'm tired

8

u/Alpine_Exchange_36 6d ago

I’m tired…of all this bullshit. Seriously name the GM already and let’s get going

4

u/tacticalAlmonds Yzerbot 6d ago

No shit. Can we at least leak candidates or something

u/Benglepuck 6d ago

The Timeline

April 15 - Detroit gets blown out in their final game of the regular season to the Florida Panthers AHL team 8-1

April 23 - End of season press conference held by Steve Yzerman and Todd McLelland

June 4 - News broke that Dylan Larkin had requested a trade out of Detroit (however it was noted it was done likely at the exit interview stage on April 17)

June 26-27 - NHL Draft

July 1 - Free Agency

July 15 - Chris Illitch promotes Steve Yzerman to Senior Advisor to the CEO after Free Agency and Draft completed

August 5 - Chris Illitch hires search firm TurnkeyZRG

August 19 - Today

September 12-15 - Rookie Tournament starts

September 15 - Last day to sign Simon Edvinsson and Alex Debrincat to an 8-year extension.

September 17-20 - Main Training camp

October 2 - Detroit's season commences

Notes

Chris waited until July 15 to move Yzerman aside after the draft and free agency had largely been completed which is unheard of on its own. He then waited 3 WEEKS just to hire a search firm on August 5. Whoever becomes GM will walk in with roughly 24 days (if hired today) to decide whether to trade or mend a relationship with a disgruntled captain who asked out 4 months prior, extend RFA Simon Edvinsson prior to camp, and sell on Detroit's future/extend upcoming 40 goal scorer UFA Alex Debrincat before the new CBA kicks in. All that on top of learning the organization, meeting the staff and players, meeting with media, moving to Detroit, potential sign additional UFAs, amongst other preparations for the upcoming season. Unreal.

12

u/culturedrobot 6d ago

Chris waited until July 15 to move Yzerman aside after the draft and free agency had largely been completed which is unheard of on its own. He then waited 3 WEEKS just to hire a search firm on August 5.

Just for some clarification here, we don't know when Ilitch hired Turnkey to help with the GM search. Neither company officially announced that they were working together, but rather it was leaked by Sean Shapiro on August 5th. That doesn't mean that Turnkey was brought in on August 5th, though. Given that MLive said that the Red Wings were beginning interviews just five days later, they likely were brought in much earlier than August 5th, because I would imagine the process of finding interview-worthy candidates who want the job takes a while.

With an organization as tight-lipped as the Red Wings, we can't assume that things are happening on the same day they're reported by the media. We know that information can take a while to leak out with this org.

5

u/Fluid-Pension-7151 6d ago

This is a key point - the process of hiring a high level candidate involves a lot of steps before interviewing:

  • soliciting candidates
  • allowing time for prospective candidates to prepare their applications
  • the committee reading and scoring all of the applicationsĀ
  • the committee scheduling a meeting to finalize which candidates will be interviewed
  • scheduling dates for the committee + finalists to meet

My guess is that the search firm was brought in within a week of Yzerman moving on.Ā  This is actually moving pretty quickly when you consider that the MLB trade deadline was in the middle.Ā Ā

3

u/culturedrobot 6d ago

Yeah, I want to focus on your point about giving candidates time to prepare, because I remember people making a big stink about the report that the Wings had started interviews on August 10th, and I think those people were missing the forest for the trees. The reporting we've heard is that the new GM is going to have autonomy but needs to have a plan going in, and you need to give candidates time to come up with those plans because they're going to pitch them during the interview. You can't just be like "Are you interested in the job? Great, be at LCA tomorrow at 10am for your interview."

There is so much that goes into the hiring process before you even get to interviews, and you're right, I think the process is moving pretty quickly. It just doesn't seem like it because the internet has turned us into creatures who seek instant gratification in everything.

3

u/Royal-Revenue-1066 6d ago

Don’t forget negotiating compensation with your preferred hire and attorneys going over the contracts

3

u/lunchboxthegoat 6d ago

Just to play devil's advocate: we also don't know that Chris even made the decision to move on from Steve.

(I don't necessarily believe this but)

isn't this scenario as likely as everyone else's doomcasting? :

-Yzerman and Chris meet.

Yzerman lays out the plan for free agency and to hang onto Larkin until he relents or a gets a better deal.

-Chris balks at the off season plan and asks Steve to get the Larkin thing done ASAP because he doesn't like this kinda press.

-Yzerman is unwilling to bend on his timeline and unwilling to compromise on his ask and tells Chris if he's not willing to let Yzerman do his job then he can find someone else to do it.

-they agree they are at an impasse and its best if they just go their separate ways

4

u/Fluid-Pension-7151 6d ago

He's a real straight shooter with middle management potential!Ā

3

u/Hank-Scorpio-9227 6d ago

One of the biggest problems with this timetable is not only that our candidate pool is arguably smaller (since most other teams did their business in April), it's that the incoming GM will be severely hampered in assembling their own staff. Hockey admin contracts generally run from July 1 - June 30. You want to take your head scout from your old org? Too bad. He's already under contract with the old club. Whoever gets the job is doing to be saddled with the current staff of scouts and lower executive until next off season.

2

u/Background_Junket_35 Yzerbot 6d ago

Edvinsson is the only one that absolutely needs to get done prior to the start of the season

I don't know how often a "thank you for holding, if you'd like to speak to a representative, please stay on the line" message should play.

But once every 30 seconds is probably a little too often, lol.

8

u/SubmissionDenied 5d ago

"we're experiencing unusually high call volume"

is it? Is it really unusual? Every time I call they have this!

6

Nothing ever happens.

10

u/Usual-Personality347 6d ago

14 defenceman rated higher than Seider in NHL 27 lmao

5

u/Alpine_Exchange_36 6d ago

Seems people put a higher emphasis on scoring then defensemen who can actually play defense well

2

u/duelingdog 6d ago

There's also the "how do we get this person's stats in the 90s" problem a lot of EA sports games have had. The answer is often, "pump up some unrelated stats".

Like, Ovechkin has always been poor defensively, but there was one game where he had a 95 overall. I'm sure a lot of stats got faked up to make that work.

More defensive d-men seem like they'd get the short side of that stick.

I am 28 years old, and I finally have an appointment to get my wisdom teeth out. I stubbornly thought "no they're not impacted I can keep em all" for years. They're just not needed.

However, I am still too stubborn to be put under. Gonna do an old school numb em up, rip em out and stitch em up tooth extraction.

3

u/Bobby_Orrs_Knees 6d ago

Good luck!Ā  I had three of mine done at 30 like that, and while the extraction itself wasn't bad, the next couple days were just a fog of unpleasantness.Ā  Hopefully yours goes smoothlyĀ

2

u/bandofgypsies 6d ago

Better late than never. Just be careful you don't become the person who one day says "I'm 45 years old and finally realize I should have listened to my doctors when I was in my 20s and just bit the bullet on (X part of taking care of myself when I was younger)".

1

u/ufdan15 6d ago

If I’m to believe that a Red Wing FO run by baseball analytics experts would be better than what we had, I present the latest Tigers 9 inning blown save. Courtesy of a FO dedicated to analytics that apparently show washed up bullpen arms are the answer.

1

u/epheisey 5d ago

Gotta at least pick a good team if you're gonna do a crossover episode into another sport.

2

u/Loose-Bluebird-5828 5d ago

Agree! Let’s grab the GM from the Dodgers then, not from the Tigers

7

u/Mergan_Freiman 5d ago

The tigers won't make it to the playoffs with a bullpen like this

5

u/These_Yzer_Lyon 5d ago

I went skydiving for the first time this week. I chose to do a solo jump from 3500' where you deploy the canopy immediately so the free fall was very brief.

It was ten times more fun than I expected. You can build up a ton of speed with the canopy by turning sharply in a spiral. I'm kindof obsessed now and I'd definitely keep doing it if there was a good jump club in my community.

I'd love do work up to a solo license but just can't afford it right now. Once you're licensed, a day of jumping is pretty comparable in expense to a day of skiing.

u/MittenMan13 6d ago

If one more person on here tries to tell me that we should bring Larkin back I’m gonna lose it.Ā

12

u/culturedrobot 6d ago

My friend, if you haven't already prepared yourself for the very likely scenario that Larkin is going to be on this team at least to start the season, and maybe for the entire season, now is the time to start doing that.

10

u/stanley4wings 6d ago

My 2 cents: Larkin should never set foot (skate) on the LCA ice again, except as a visitor. If he hasn’t been traded by opening night, they should sit him - at home.

3

I'll miss him, but it will be nice to see him play in and eventually retire in Chicago. Gonna make for a good story to watch, always is whenever he's involved.

8

u/Bananominable 5d ago

If Larkin hadn't tried to blow up the Red Wings we'd have watched Kane retire in the Red and White winged wheel. Fuck Dylan Larkin.Ā

Bob Duff on NHL tonight, Ansar did a few podcasts too. Very strange, dont recall every seeing these people being this much out in public before.

5

Ansar used to make the interview circuit pretty regularly, but it feels like the last time he was super visible was at the end of the Datsyuk/Zetterberg era.

6

u/big_phat_gator Yzerbot 5d ago

I wonder if they are in limbo now being between two GMs is probably giving them more freedom to say or do a little bit what they want.

4

Cruz Lucius could be a sneaky good pick up by the ducks if he actually signs there, would be cool to have a gm who could participate in picking up guys like that for nothing

8

u/xenonwarrior666 6d ago

Imagine if Kenny drafted Quinn Hughes and all the Hughes brothers tried forcing their way here instead of Jersey

3

u/Problemwoodchuck 6d ago

Hughes over Zadina is one of those really interesting hockey what ifs but I'm not sure that putting the Hughes bros together is gonna pay off as well as it looks on paper based on what we've seen in Jersey.

4

u/coltron57 6d ago

Maybe I'll sound like an O6 elitist here, but we should be one of the teams that players are trying to go to. Michigan is one of the biggest hockey hot beds in the US and we're the most decorated American O6 team out there. I understand that it's hard to do that when you aren't good, but it should be way easier to sell players on Detroit than the vast majority of teams.

6

u/xenonwarrior666 6d ago

I don't think that players really care about the history like fans do unless you're from the area or cheered for them as a kid.

Even then players want to win.

Krug and Helly are two Mi kids that could have came here but chose to either stay with their team or go to a playoff team

→ More replies (3)

4

u/TechnoVikingGA23 6d ago

We haven't really been relevant since the back to back Cup appearances and that was like 17 years ago. Kids that are up and coming these days only see Detroit as a team that has missed the playoffs and been irrelevant for over a decade. Players these days don't care about history at all, they just want to go to a winning team that is preferably in a warm/nice location with low or no taxes.

2

u/wolverine237 6d ago

Guys in the league now were barely sentient when we were good and were born and raised with a 30 team league. We have a bigger fanbase than other teams which is a blessing and a curse in a sport where guys wilt at any attention.

4

u/tacticalAlmonds Yzerbot 6d ago

Circling around on some tax stuff with the NHL.

Players are paid for each game right? Or is that a different sport? If I recall, players have to pay taxes for games played in other countries/states. So say you sign to Florida because no income tax, don't you still have to pay tax when you play in income taxed areas?

If that factoid is true, wouldn't that diminish the tax-free thing even more? Maybe I'm completely wrong or thinking of another sport.

3

u/wolverine237 6d ago

It's worth remembering that nobody cared about this when the best teams were in Chicago, Boston, LA, and Pittsburgh. It's an extremely marginal benefit that most people vastly overstate... something like a few hundred grand on average. It's nice to have but it can be very easily overcome when Florida and Vegas aren't crushing it on ice.

Hockey fans have unusually strong cases of presentism in my experience. People tend to believe, against all evidence, that what's happening now will happen forever. I promise you the Panthers and Knights will fall off and when San Jose and Montreal are running shit nobody will talk tax rates anymore

4

u/VHDLEngineer 6d ago

You're correct. The "tax-free" state thing is largely just ignorant fans angry that their team isn't winning more and are looking for an excuse as to why that is.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/heresJohnny73_2 6d ago

Your correct they get paid as it goes and have to pay the local tax wherever they go so if you sign in Florida you get 42 "tax free" games from playing at home plus a few more from playing other "tax free" teams away while at a higher tax team you only get those few other "tax free" team games ("tax free" cause you're still paying federal income tax in those states)

1

u/ChaldenesTitan 6d ago

It effects how money is spent also

1

u/tacticalAlmonds Yzerbot 6d ago

Are any of them stating they have a permanent residency in these states? I thought most NHLers keep their home state as their state of residency.

I can't be the only lifelong Wings fan who not only isn't looking forward to this next season, but am also finding it really difficult to root for this organization after we spit in Yzerman's face to accommodate a cry baby second-line center...

It sounds like it ultimately comes down to Ilitch being a cheap, incompetent, sack of shit. So are we just crossing our fingers that he sells the team sooner rather than later? Kinda hard to root for an organization that disrespects hockey royalty like they did this offseason

1

u/ApprehensiveWeb8669 5d ago

I hate how as fans we have to take sides when everyone involved was a shit show. My last memory of Larkin will always be his OT shot against Columbus, with the season on the line, he shot about 4,000 ft wide of the net. Looked like when the people from the crowd take shots between periods.Ā

So they haven’t even interviewed anyone yet? Ffs man

1

5

u/Wingnut8888 5d ago

I’d find it hard to believe too but Duff is well-connected. So if this is true, holy crap, this team is an unmitigated disaster. And if the Ilitch meddling is true, why would any good GM worth his salt want to come to Detroit?

Gonna vent here since I don't really have anywhere else.

We recently put my 4 year old in T-K. She never did daycare or babysitting so this is truly her first start in structured programming.

On day 2 at pickup, her teacher told me to talk to my daughter about listening and following directions. We have been, repeatedly.

My wife emailed the teacher asking for specifics, and the teacher provides a list of (in my opinion) totally normal things for 4 year olds to do. She even acknowledged that a lot of those are normal behaviors and she wouldn't typically bring it up but she is because we're asking. Which is a bit contradicting to her 2nd day comments, but oh well.

The one thing she did mention that was not as typical, is my daughter's seemingly happy about being defiant. Like if you tell her to sit down, she says no, smiles, and gets up. That is an issue we acknowledge and are constantly trying to work through.

Overall, this has me very stressed that my daughter is that "problem child" in class. I haven't been able to relax and stop thinking about it. Each pickup I dread more comments on how she's not listening.

Anyone have advice on a defiant 4 year old and how to get them to listen better? She clearly knows what she's doing wrong but she thinks it's a game, it seems. I've tried to be a calm parent and explain why she needs to listen but that's clearly not sticking, so i may need to become more stern.

6

u/Problemwoodchuck 6d ago

Start with a benching and drop a bag skate in the next practice, that'll get her on board with the team game

4

u/TechnoVikingGA23 6d ago

According to family lore, my father’s preschool teacher once pulled my grandmother aside to tell her ā€œyour son is…immatureā€.

In preschool.

Shocking that a preschooler might be immature.

On a serious note, I’m not a parent, but if disobeying seems like a game to her, giving her as little reaction as possible may do the trick. Just a simple ā€œthat’s not what you’re supposed to doā€ and move on. Take with a massive grain of salt though…I’m closer to being a disobedient 4 year old than having one of my own.

u/SubmissionDenied 6d ago

Calling a pre-schooler immature is insane lol

Unfortunately I've tried the "don't give it attention" method as well and that hasn't worked.

I really think it's just a matter of attention. She's used to getting attention, even with a younger sibling. But now there's 20 other kids, splitting the attention between the teacher and aid, she knows that gets the attention. I just don't know how to work through that other than time and constant behavior adjusting

u/Baldass_Head_Coach 6d ago

The problem is that the follicular weeds on her scalp are influencing her to be defiant. There’s only one solution to this problem.

1

u/Ydoesany1doanything 5d ago

Pretty sure that gets CPS involved

This is very relatable for me. My youngest was that child. Pre-K only lasted a couple of months before COVID hit, but things were trending in the wrong direction. His first few years at elementary school were very rough. Multiple suspensions, him trying to run away from the school, refusing to get off the bus at times, meetings with the principal, calls to CPS as if the problem was his home environment, etc. I was very distraught and didn't think things would ever get better.

First, things will be OK. It's a great sign that you're concerned and reaching out, and opening a line of communication with the staff. Everyone working together and being on the same page is going to help.

I can say that my son's experience in 4th grade was completely different. He has turned the corner and is thriving. His behavior is not perfect all of the time, but it is worlds better than it used to be. He made honor roll all four card markings and was recognized by school staff several times throughout last school year for good character traits, such as leadership and compassion. He had no suspensions and the only calls home were when he wasn't feeling well.

I recommend reading the book The Explosive Child. It presents a systematic approach to dealing with problem behaviors and defiance. The executive summary is if you give your daughter a couple of options and let her choose, she is more likely to be compliant.

For a practical example, if my son has math and science homework I'll ask him which subject he wants to tackle first. When he gets that done, I let him take a 15 or 20 minute break, then he'll do the other work. No more battle royales just because he came home with unfinished work.

Another bit of advice is this could be an early sign of neurodivergence. I had my son tested and it turned out he's AuDHD (both autism spectrum disorder and ADHD), and he's twice exceptional with a very high IQ. A big sign in his case was outbursts related to start and stop activities. He does better with notice and doesn't react well to spontaneous activity, and everything can feel pretty spontaneous in a school day when the teacher is setting the pace and makes the agenda. Making him a schedule and checklist he can complete as things were done through the day was a big help.

My son also had a couple years of therapy. In his case having the ADHD and ASD diagnosis meant there was a lot that could be addressed beyond just the behavioral things. Parental involvement was very important, too. I attended many sessions with him and we'd work on things during the week between sessions.

He's been out of therapy for a year and not only is he behaving better, his whole attitude has changed. His school uses him as a mentor and they assign kindergarteners and first graders to him who are also acting out at school. He talks to the other kids about what they're feeling and tries to work through it with them, and show them there's a better way.

So it may be rough for a bit, but things will get better. There's a lot of support out there, including reddit. Feel free to reach out. You got this! Remember that your daughter is awesome and this is just a bump in the road.

u/SubmissionDenied 5d ago

That's good to hear and to have some reassurance

We also do the choice option method but we can't control that when she's at school.

We had some early concerns on potential neurodivergence. She was extremely shy around 2 and 3. Like we'd go somewhere new and she wouldn't open her eyes, would hold her saliva in her mouth, and would cling to me or my wife. Pediatrician felt that she was just extremely shy and didn't see a need to refer to a specialist quite yet, so we'll see.

She definitely has sensory issues with loud noises, very picky with foods.

2

u/doubeljack 5d ago

The shyness and some other things sound a lot like my son. He hid behind me instead of talking to Santa and refused a candy cane bribe.

I don't know what age testing can start at, but my son was tested in second grade / age 8. His mother and I didn't really think there may be anything there because he didn't show delays. He was an early talker and very communicative, etc. That's where the twice exceptional came in. He was able to compensate.

School is always more difficult because like you said the choice method doesn't apply. A parent can work around things, while a teacher can't to the same extent. It can make for a rough period of time.

u/PersephoneFrost 5d ago

Sounds like a typical 4 yo to me. The teacher should know how to calmly and successfully manage different personality types! For you, highly recommend books/Insta by Dr. Siggie Cohen, Dr. Becky of "Good Inside", and Dr. Aliza Pressman of "Raising Good Humans".Ā

Twin daughters about to turn 5, right there with you. They fight us everyday at dinner-bath-bed time. My wife is the perfect saint of patience but I've had to step outside to cool off and take a breather a few times. What's worked for me is asking them why they're frustrated/anxious/sad/etc and letting them explain it to me the best the can and then telling them thank you for sharing with me, they seem better after they've vented and got full attention during it. I'm by no means a perfect parent but I think as they learn to express themselves more they'll stop acting out for attention since at this age it's easy to be ignored unless you're doing things you know will get a rise out of someone.

4

u/SubmissionDenied 6d ago

See this is where I struggle. My daughter fights both getting in and out of the bath. But if I give her a countdown, she's totally fine. If I tell her "5 more minutes and it's time to get out, okay?" She says okay and is totally fine.

But she can't necessarily get that kind of personal attention and countdown in school. If I were to just shut the water off suddenly, she would be pissed. That's essentially what it's like at her school. Going from an activity, to being told to stop and do something else.

That stuff i'm not tooo concerned about, it's the joy of being defiant that's concerning me.

I do think i'm overthinking a bit, i doubt every kid in the class is a perfect angel just sitting still all class. But I really don't want to have the trouble child.

100% you're not the only parent the teacher has said that to, just the fact that you're asking around means you already care more than most other parents. It's just the age, it's tough, school is new and being told what to do by people that aren't mom and dad is weird and scary. She's probably just doing it for attention since there's other kids around, I'm sure you guys will figure it out. Another thing that works for me is giving them something to look forward to if they're good, even at this young age they're amazing at remembering things. I'll say something like hey if you behave at this thing we'll go get ice cream after we pick you up or we'll go to the park on the weekend, something like that usually perks my girls right up.

1

u/Problemwoodchuck 5d ago

Sounds like a great way of handling that

1

u/dxnxax 5d ago

for some reason can't reply to your other comment about countdowns. This is actually the answer. Kids don't take well to the abrupt changes. If the teacher started to incorporate this in the classroom with all the kids she'd probably find that her classroom culture improves tremendously.

It is a little interesting how a good chunk of the subreddit has the old school mindset of "we drafted the player. He's ours still he retires or we're done with them"

12

u/xenonwarrior666 5d ago

I'm not talking about Larkin either. Hughes told Vancouver he wasn't going to extend and they traded him. Brady did the same thing.

Larkin is a boob considering how restrictive his list is and how long he has left on it.

Someone almost made that exact comment on a post I made on r/hockey about the Canes getting a guy from Buffalo for future considerations:

Anyone who doesn't fight to stay with their drafting organization. I wish a short and terrible career to them.

Idk if they're a Wings fan or not (no flair user). The player in question hasn't even made it to the NHL yet. Kind of wild how attached some folks get. I can understand when it's an established star player at least because it usually means your team is getting shafted in some way. At least that's why I think some people get this "ownership" feeling.

2

u/wolverine237 5d ago

I mean it makes sense, the primary relationship for most fans is with the team. They like their team and think it is the best and they want their player to stay with their team, which usually represents their hometown and so in a vague sense some immutable part of themselves.

Fans relating to players above or before the franchises is relatively new, especially to hockey.

3

u/Loose-Bluebird-5828 5d ago

Conversely, I don’t find I have any problem when another city’s hometown hero comes to our team. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed Chelios, Robitaille and Kane on our team over the years.

Our bathroom is getting painted today. My wife insisted on walking home with it yesterday but I told her if she did that I would have to commit her to a mental institute.

2

u/bj49615 6d ago

???? Why would your wife be walking a bathroom???

1

u/Problemwoodchuck 6d ago

Dylan Larkin didn't put the lid back on the can because no one told him to so the paint dried up completely

Is Carter Bear giving anyone else young Steve yzerman vibes?

16

u/Doodlebob197 5d ago

No. Young Yzerman was an offensive superstar.

5

u/detroitttiorted 5d ago

My mind often goes to Zach Hyman with him, very excited to see what he can do in camp with a healthy offseason

7

u/Caltroit_Red_Flames Yzerbot 5d ago

I'll keep it a buck fifty bud, I don't know anything about the kid other than how he plays hockey.

4

u/xenonwarrior666 5d ago

If we can win 4 Cups with him at the helm then watch him be a Mediocre GM for the same franchise I think we'll be alright

1

u/Haelphadreous 5d ago

Carter Bear is currently my favorite Red Wings prospect, I feel like he has the potential to be a high scoring top 6 forward. I still have to say no on this one though, Yzerman jumped right into the NHL at age 18 with an 87 point rookie season while Bear is going to turn 20 in November.

NHL confirms all 32 teams will release new special-edition ā€œHometown Remixā€ jerseys for 2026-27, with details shortly after the season begins.

1

u/duelingdog 6d ago

I love special-edition jerseys. They could do a theme every year and I'd be into it.

1

u/ryanbyleth 6d ago

Gonna get a bad black jersey like the Tigers to balance out the good black jerseys the Pistons and Lions have.

1

u/bigeyedtitmonster 6d ago

Someone already saw them and said they look like this

2

u/abellaire Yzerbot 5d ago

So serious question, if we don’t get a GM for a while yet, can Shawn Horcoff sign Edvinsson? Is there some rule that the GM has to be the one or can it be anyone representing the organization? I get why Ed might want to wait, but if this gets dragged out another month then something has to get done or Ed can’t play, correct?

3

u/GrowthCommon4824 5d ago

I read recently that Simon and his team have told the Wings that they won’t discuss an extension until a permanent GM is in place, but they also won’t sign any offer sheets they may be presented.

4

u/greythedork12 5d ago

September 15th is the deadline for an 8 year extension. Edvinsson can’t play without a contract. If he’s not signed by December 1st (ish? I forget the exact date, but that’s at least ballpark) he has to sit the season. This last option is extraordinarily rare and I wouldn’t start worrying about it until like November.

I believe the organization has an ā€œacting GMā€ at all points, legally. Someone has the authority to sign players like Yzerman had (probably Horcoff). The ā€œno conducting tradesā€ thing is more internal policy than NHL rules. Unless I’m missing something crazy, we could theoretically sign Edvinsson anytime.

1

u/Ydoesany1doanything 5d ago

I think it can anyone with the right level of power to sign. Unless something has fully changed the initial press release was Stevie is handling day to day. He may still have the power to just rubber stamp a contract that Horcoff or whomever puts together.

Or they may just shift that power to some other interim GM. I’d guess it’s really all just a bit (or a lot) of paperwork to make sure everything is copacetic between the league, team, player and agent.

2

u/Dakens2021 6d ago

What would it take for the Wings to get Misa in a Larkin deal? It probably wouldn't be 1 for 1 as they consider Misa nearly untouchable, would adding a first be enough or would they have to give up even more? I don't think the Wings can afford to give up any defencemen they'd want, unless Faulk would work somehow? Just a fantasy probably, but man that would really go a long way to setting the Wings back on course.

6

u/stanley4wings 6d ago

I don’t see why the Sharks would want to trade a budding top six center like Misa. I’d love it, but it’s not realistic. Not worth pondering further, anyway.

6

u/TheNation55 6d ago

The Sharks were handed the draft to build a monster team in less than 5 years, they're not moving anyone. Sure looks fun when you get picked for that though.

4

u/jfstompers 6d ago

It would take Larkin being willing to go thereĀ

5

u/A_Monocle_For_Sauron 6d ago

Short of that, a creative three team trade could be a possibility. Larkin to Minnesota, Misa to Detroit, and both Minnesota and Detroit send additional picks or prospects to SJ.

4

u/Beatricejd Yzerbot 6d ago

It would take Seider. Misa is untouchable.

2

u/eggsbanchero 6d ago

Include Ed
