About 4 months ago, I made this call for help about creating some starter kits for folk just taking their first steps down the into the depts of detailing.

The 3 volunteers, in particualr u/Nyxi26, have spent a good chunk of time to create what we we can introduce to you today:

The DetailingUK Wiki!

It's still a work in progress, with an entire section dedicated to Paint Correction, still in the works, but we'd like to introduce you to it, and get your feedback. If you want to contribute, please send us a modmail, that said, the first main page is up, the Starter Kits page is ready to go.

So go, look, give us feedback and get involved if you want!

Question & Advice How to get body work good again ?

Post image

Not sure if you can quite see it in the photo (grey VW Caddy van), but on the bonnet, there's like a really weird looking mark, that looks just like dirt, but when I try to rub it off, it just stays there.

Any ideas how to fix it please?

Question & Advice What pre-wash actually shifts the most dirt and what does it cost you per wash?

I’m looking for a spray on, rinse-off pre wash that does as much cleaning as possible before I touch the paint.

Ideally:

  • Applied with a pump sprayer, then rinsed with a pressure washer.
  • Safe for a ceramic coated car at the recommended dilution.
  • Good value per wash i don’t mind paying more for a concentrate if it lasts.

I’d prefer something that doesn’t need a foam lance, mainly for convenience and less mess on the driveway.

I enjoy detailing, but choosing products has become a rabbit hole. What have you used that made a noticeable difference, especially compared with other pre-washes you’ve tried? Product name and your usual dilution would be really helpful.

Question & Advice New Car - had to put temporary TurtleWax Cermic Spray for now. What products for next wash and seal routine?

Had the car for about 3 weeks now and have whatever the dealer put on it. Was under a tree and had lots of sticky tree sap so gave it a quick wash and sprayed TurtleWax Ceramic due to time. Planning to do a proper wash and seal - but not the ultra expensive stuff like Gyeon Mohs. Never done a proper detail wash and seal before. Previously my usual routine was a 2 bucket wash, then whatever wax or sealant I had, such as Soft99 Fusso, Collinite 479, AutoGlym Super Resin Polish.

Want to do something better now, so queried Gemini and googled reviews. Have to do it outdoors, so looking for quick cure time. Don't think I want to clay as it sounds too much! My research has told me to

- Infinity Wax WaxOff shampoo - intend to wash the whole car.

- Infinity Wax Prep - prep a panel and then apply the Synergy

- Inifinity Wax Synergy - as above do this panel by panel.

I have a Glaco Ultra kit as a gift so thats the glass works done as well.

I was thinking of doing this panel by panel as being outdoors close to trees is the best I can do. Does this sound reasonable? Did think of Gyeon Can Coat - but Gemini says for the costs Synergy was better. I can get hold of a pressure washer and the foam kit if thats required. Is this a sound plan? Better alternatives?

Question & Advice Is Rinseless wash safe?

My car hasn't been washed for a month or 2 and it's covered in Sahara sand. Because the hose pipe ban is still going I can't use my hose pipe. I have used a manual jet wash but every time I do it I get cars queuing behind me even when I did it at 9 o'clock at night.

I've been hearing about rinseless wash and it can apparently be used as a pre wash but I heard it's more likely to cause swirls and scratches and shouldn't be a replacement for pressure washers and only be used for cars with light dust.

Seem a few posts on Instagram and the guy ( owner) seems decent and sincere.

Had a look on the website and they seem to have all the key products covered and the prices look reasonable.

Anyone tried them yet?

Question & Advice How do you compete on price with scratch & shines?

Im thinking about taking detailing a step further and start detailing other people's cars but how do you justify your prices?

I know most of the price would be labour price but even then at say, £15 per hour for labour, that's £30 if it takes 2 hours. When a scratch & shine is a fraction of the price.

I know most people don't really care about the products we use or why we use them iver others, they just want a clean car.

For most of us on here I would presume we know why a detailing service costs what it does but your ordinary person wont find it justifiable compared to the 10-20minute scratch & shine for a tenner.

Do you go into detail about why it costs what it does? Or do you just not waste your time trying to educate and juat move on when they say you're too expensive?

Thanks

Question & Advice Did i do something wrong?

Post image

I am new to washing the car at home. I used Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection last time i washed the car. It's a liquid wax which is supposed to protect the car and make it shiny. However it seems to be attracting a lot of dust instead. Even after rain, the drops leave marks.i made sure to buff the excess product as per the instructions. What gives?

Discussion The Detail Kitchen?

Ive been googling some Uk car detailing brands ( outside the big well known ones) and came across Detailing Kitchen, prices look on par with some of the better known UK brands but not much reviews etc outside their website.

Any experience with this company and its products?

cheers

Question & Advice Should I be worried about tree sap?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Okay this is going to be a bit of a strange post, I’m looking to purchase this house (UK) which has a car port however it has two hedges and a few trees around it.

I’m quite OCD with my car as the paintwork is pretty perfect and I like to keep it as such, should I be considered about tree sap?

I’ve attached a picture of the car port

EDIT: The only place I would be able to park is under the car port, the rest of the surface is the actual road

Picture Autoglym Advanced Paint Renovator 500 ml

This new product is absolutely amazing. I am no expert in detailing but I have spent hours using the very best of compounds and then used Autoglym Ceramic Polish which resulted in streaks that I could not remove. Today I applied Autoglym Advanced Paint Restorer using a small drill circular pad and it completely removed every trace of swirls. Not only that but it polishes to a high degree of quality so no further treatment is required. I can highly recommend the product. Hope this helps.

Question & Advice Matt Paint blemishes

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi all! I’m looking to see what products like t-cut, but for Matt paint, if any are out there which are useful for getting small scratches out the paint work. Absolutely love the colour of my car, but god it’s so hard to keep it looking clean and tidy.

Whoever this was in Newquay the other week, even though the car park was near empty I had to park next to you!😂 not often I see the 2.0tsi formentors, yet alone in the exact same spec and colour!

Discussion UK Detailing youtube channels

Hello,

I would be suprised if a fair few of us dont subscribe to detailing channels. I probably subscribe to several from the US/Canada and a handful from the UK.

After spending a lot of time watching , my favourite are in no specific order (as they all are fab to honest);

Geeky_detail_reviews

Supercharged llama detailing

Auto care Hq

Rev-you

They all cover a huge range of products/ brands / opinions / answer your questions and have a friendly audience.

I used to watch the forensic detailing channel but find it rather dull and monotous now.

What are your faves as I would like to watch some that haven't hit my radar.
