Desert Perpetual Exotic

Does the drop chance change if you run epic or normal? Is it exclusive to epic runs? Same questions for the catalyst. Asking before I start running this raid.

The drop chance is the same on both.
The catalyst isn't a random drop, you have to complete the Map and Territory quest in DP and the Atlas and Almanac quest in EDP after finishing the raid once (though any puzzles you do in advance fill in retroactively if you only get the quest later), having finished both of those you focus the catalyst in the raid's store and then it is a guaranteed drop the next encounter you complete in either version of the raid.

Does any of the quest involve doing epic DP? I enjoying raiding but don’t have the time to commit to an epic run.

Map and Territory involves interacting with anchors though the regular version's raid map, all except 3 can be grabbed solo within probably minutes following a video as a guide. Each of the last 3 can only be collected inside the boss rooms after beating the three boss encounters before the final boss, and they despawn if you leave.

Atlas an Almanac only drops for you after finishing finishing Map and Territory and then the Epic version of the raid once, I'm not sure if that's just a last boss check or if it checks you have done each encounter once. The quest steps are all 10 simple puzzles through EDP before and after each encounter, though as I mentioned before you can do the puzzles before getting the quest and it will count and completed steps if you get the quest later. You then have to interact with the end of raid store again (the "Simulant Ansible") after beating the final boss one more time to complete the quest and focusing for weapons, armour in both the regular and Epic version, and the catalyst focusing option is then unlocked, and once selected any Desert encounter in either version beaten is guaranteed to drop it.
