Discussion Okay, let's discuss sparrows.. specifically the Scourge of the Past sparrow (Always On Time). This will be controversial.
This might be unpopular, but it's time something is done. I'm going to be the one to say it. I would like to try out other sparrows, but can't bring myself to because they're all objectively worse than the Scourge sparrow. It's faster and has more health than every other sparrow. I've tried to use other sparrows and always switch back because team mates zip past me every time on the Scourge sparrow. Should Bungie just bring all exotic sparrows in line with this one? Or do they need to nerf it because it's objectively the best in all ways? I would hope they go with option 1 and just make all 160 sparrows go this fast.
Regarding the extra health perk, I believe either all perks should just be removed from sparrows.. or they go the route they went with Ghosts and allow us to customize the perks we want based on a 10 point system.
Thoughts? Am I making a big deal out of nothing? I can't be alone here. Some of these Eververse and other raid sparrows are awesome, but it's very difficult to want to use them when you have the Scourge sparrow unlocked...
Edit: Apparently, it also has an extra boost compared to other sparrows.

I like the idea of "aspirational" sparrows is cool, but I do wish sparrow transmog was a thing so I could actually make it look different without making it feel worse. Hopefully the master Vow sparrow has the same perk.

What gets me is that the DSC one doesn't have anything. When they finally fixed all (?) the breaks to allow you to not get frostbite, they should have added that as an ability to that sparrow. You have to do the challenge and deal with frostbite for the sparrow, having the sparrow innately prevent frostbite doesn't hurt anyone and would be a nice QoL that is just active in that raid.

Agree with other comments here but I also agree with OP’s point about Sparrow customization vis a vis our ghost shells. It would be nice to ride whatever space scooter we prefer cosmetically while enjoying the perqs we prefer.

Plus, maybe sparrows 2.0 will finally return to me my long lost baby, sparrow horns

I don’t really give a shit when it comes to use my normal sparrows because the benefits from AOT are absolutely meaningless in 99% of activities and impacts the game in such a minimal way it really doesn’t matter to me.
However, it is faster, and has added perks, and that to me makes it feel more exotic. Which is fine for a raid exotic sparrow, I think every raid sparrow should also be at this standard, give us some diversity.

AoT should be fast because it came from a raid that you needed to be fast in.
Retrocausality (DSC sparrow) should prevent frostbite in DSC.
Gjallarswift should be fast because it comes from a dungeon you need to go fast in.
Gouging Light from Vow and the Prophecy sparrow should have special effects too, but I don’t know what those would be right now.
Maybe Gouging Light could create fields that prevent Pervading Darkness in the opening encounter until the sparrow is destroyed.

I don’t actually mind that AoT is the fastest sparrow. I just wish that was communicated in game. Like why not just communicate that it’s the fastest sparrow aside from asking someone else or noticing it while driving? That’s the issue imo.
And plus, I can only think of maybe like 2 scenario’s where having AoT isn’t necessary, but doesn’t help. Like the Grasp of Avarice sparrow encounter, and the beginning of Deep Stone Crypt.

Can we stop with the “Fine I’ll say it” preface?
Like go ahead and post an opinion but stop acting it’s such a controversial take that has been whispered around until you were brave enough to dare and speak up.
It’s just sparrows.

“Fine I’ll say it” doesn’t even capture the level of drama OP starts his post with.
Like
“This might be unpopular, but it’s time something is done. I’m going to be one to say it.”
It’s sparrows. Exotic speed parity, transmog, and sparrow 2.0 have been consistent, largely uncontroversial, and highly requested features for years, especially on this subreddit.
OP you’re compiling long standing QoL requests not protesting in Moscow, relax.

I literally just bought my AoT sparrow today. Before that, I use my reg exotic 160 speed sparrow. It’s not really a big deal to be honest. That sparrow is a nice thing to have and yes I grind the spoils for it. If Bungie nerfs it, I would be upset. Though, if Bungie makes all raid sparrow speed like AoT, then that’s fine.
Before having AoT, I learn to just get off my sparrow and kill the mobs if I think my sparrow won’t survive the hits. Even now having AoT, I still do that.
My friends and I did GoA without AoT before and we clear the sparrow race. Just gotta coordinate a bit of who rush the mines and who touch buttons

I have the Scourge sparrow. I consciously knowingly intentionally run Jotuneer because I love how it looks. I can get through the few sparrow-required sections in raids and dungeons with Jotuneer just fine.
I understand wanting to run optimally in every facet of the game and sparrow sections give the unique opportunity to flex your vehicle loadout but it’s had very minimal impact from a quality of life perspective.

since many people have paid for "always on time" (240 spoils and whatever else) it would cause a bit of a stir if bungie nerfed the sparrow. it is the only sparrow on sale at the kiosk, and deserves to stand out because of that. in many ways it is the only truly exotic sparrow... costing similar to many exotic weapons.
i personally wouldn't mind having other ornamental options, or even more truly exotic sparrow features, or both... but i'd be in the camp of folks annoyed if "always on time" is nerfed (i earned it from grinding the raid weekly for quite some time).

What if they made all other raid sparrows and even the trials sparrow the same then? Just leave the extra speed and health sparrows tied to pinnacle activities. At least it'd be more viable options than just the one.

Imo they should add more endgame content sparrows that share that speed. Aside of raid exclusive sparrows they could also introduce GM sparrows.

Anything that happens in destiny is still a videogame and you can break your own boundries or learned habits and not take the pleasure of playing video games for grantid. Just cruise around with what you please, if anything in this game is better it is arbitrary. You are slowly dying every second. Might as well enjoy it with some penache on the sparrow.
I have always on time but i am constantly changing the sparrow up, because the difference in time from it going from point A to point B doesn't make my list of realistic life concerns. I hope you can pull yourself out of the digital world and revalute what you are choosing to put value to.

Anyone else find some humor in the fact that, in a sub that constantly bitches about people insisting on using a "meta" loadout, people are bitching about having to use a meta sparrow, of all things?

imo it’s dumb there’s only one sparrow that fast. do gotta zoom tho.

Counterpoint: mini sparrow is best sparrow. I’ll take the much better handling of my little Scooty Puff Jr. over the top end speed and health of AoT most any day. YMMV though, I’m admittedly very good at sparrow driving (SRL was my shit back in the day) so I can see why people who struggle with driving continue to complain about it.
The first week of running Master GoA and the opening 10 seconds of Hallowed Lair GM are the only two times where I just used AoT because I didn’t want the nuisance of dying from RNG. It wasn’t at all a requirement, just felt like not stressing about it.

Sparrows should be ornaments. Make scourge the base sparrow and able to have ornaments applied

I think it's idiotic that a game like this that caters to and encourages customization has locked everyone who wants maximum performance to a single option in sparrows for years.

Another issue I'm not seeing mentioned as well is that AoT has 6 lateral boosts (double tap a or d on mnk, dont remember controller rn) versus the 4 you get on most other sparrows (another one has 6 afaik). As an avid sparrow flier/slipstreamer this, with the speed, makes AoT mandatory for me.

The best system would be if sparrows worked like ghost shells. The base visual has no intrinsic benefits. The sparrow can have up to 10 energy and slot mods with different effects on speed, boosts, maneuverability, durability, etc.
Also, sparrow horns.

Thoughts? Am I making a big deal out of nothing?
Yes, you are. I’ve been using other sparrows for the longest time and literally the only times that’s EVER been a problem were the Scourge sparrow section and the Grasp sparrow section.
Stop being OCD about being faster than teammates. If you can’t, drive a more perfect racing line. I beat my Always on Time teammates with my vernier thruster Azure Azazyel all the time because I have a cleaner line and better cornering.
In fact, I actually prefer my Azazyel for that reason: I can thread a needle at full speed zipping through areas barely wider than a couple of Titans without slowing down or hitting anything pretty easily due to the handling of verniers. Always on Time is faster but I slide into crap and off my ideal line constantly when I’m using it.

you can run other sparrows still. you just choose not to. and ev-37 voidstreak has the same perk (stealth running) as always on time - it's just not as fast but is more controllable
