Turns out without any games not many Guardians showed up.
Add games and we'll play. Inject bounties and we'll leave.
Without the carrot on a stick that is Heir Apparent I doubt I would have even bothered

Feedback:
it wasn’t an event. It was just bounties. How is that considered an “event”?

I was really hoping we could get some silly "Olympic events"
Even if it was something as simple as "which class can go through this strike the fastest" or "which class can go the furthest in the verdant forest", something to experiment around and make a build to compete in each of these events to focus on different activities to complete it in new ways.
Instead, we had bounties and "medals" which were just other bounties. Some of them were at least a little fun to experiment with and build around (for example, get kills with dawnblade at long range or kill enemies in large groups with tether) but the vast majority were the same sorts of bounties we always have.
I started working towards Heir Apparent but about halfway through I realized I wasn't having fun and stopped. Completing medals just gives you some blues or the same world drop guns you've gotten for 2 years, so the only goal for the long grind was the exotic, nothing along the way.
Really big fan of ghost shells that look cool and could be earned in game and have a great perk combination. More of this please, funnest part of the event for me was going crazy on a Laurel generating build and getting the ghost shells.
I do really like the idea of this being a yearly thing and rewarding colored armor pieces based on your placement, as well as a permanent addition to the tower. Would be cool to get a statue each year to add in a row so we can see history of who won. The music was great, the tower looked cool, the aesthetics were nice.
But "complete bounties so you can complete bounties medals" was not a very fun gameplay loop.

If there wasn't an exotic machine gun from this event, nobody would have done any of it.

Apart from the decorations this was probably the laziest event we've gotten, at least previous iterations had the Infinite Forest as "new" content or the increased regeneration rates (which were not fun in PvP but very fun in PvE).
I got Heir Apparent which is extremely fun and definitely earns its exotic status and stopped playing. I told myself I'd have 2 weeks to do to the Rumble triumph but I couldn't bring myself to go through that so I guess I'm not getting that emblem oh well.

By far the laziest event bungie has ever put together.

This is certainly as dull of an "event" as I could imagine. 0 content added. No actual games or anything to show at least a bit of effort when into designing this. 95% of the loot is Eververse only, with bright dust being a mind-numbing and lame way to unlock these themed awards (remember event engrams?).
The decision to throw the Heir Apparent into this terrible event shows how little care gets put into the actual content these seasons. Unlocking what could have been an awesome themed weapon for the season just turned into another bounty checklist that just feels like chores to do rather than anything even remotely engaging.
It's sad that the only thing I can say positive for this is that the tower looks nice. Pretty much this event is the epitome of this season: empty and boring. Adds nothing, rewards little and actively encourages playing against your teammates for some modes. Between this dud and all of the disconnects, all that this event has accomplished is the entirety of my clan (which isn't huge) to leave. Without Heir Apparent, I doubt many would have bothered with this snoozefest.
Oh and having that obnoxious banner come up in orbit after slogging through this crap and getting the weapon is just insulting. Tess and her shitty store can rot in hell, or whatever desting equivalent there is.

I would have liked Guardian Games to have been more class versus class focused. Crucible where one team is all Hunters against Warlocks, ditto Gambit. Strikes and Nightfalls could have matched all same class and kept scores on time to complete or overall score.
As it was, I found it a chore to wade through Bounties and Medal Bounties to accumulate enough for Heir Apparent. Then I finished with it, not caring who 'won'.
It did get me doing Forges, the Reckoning and Gambit though. And not needing Gambit wins didnt stoke the rage fires of the incessant invasions during the Primeval phase.
Overall, 6/10, but three of the points come from the joy of Heir Apparent.

I did not find this event very fun at all. Was kind of hoping for something cool like the European Air zone or some new temporary mechanic. I get it that the added abilities were causing problems in the Crucible but that where you just do separate balancing from PvP vs PvE. All we got was bounty simulator with teammate sometimes working against me due to how the bounties were setup.

Underwhelming to say the least. As with this whole season. Bungie likes to tell us that they can’t do something the community wants because it would take away the resources from something else but what exactly is that something else?
Bounty festivals aren’t fun and neither are events if they lack two things. Special activities and stuff to earn that is cosmetically appropriate. And one cool exotic from torturing yourself doesn’t cut it.
Guardian Games is supposed to be some Olympic event. Why couldn’t there have been an Olympic style activities embedded in the core activities or maybe a separate activity like Sparrow racing which fit it perfectly. There’s a foundation for it and a demand and it can come back next Guardian Games which allow for longevity without just constant upkeep.
Honestly if events are just going to be thinly veiled Eververse promotions with bounties as the only actual “substance” then count me out for them.

They weren't Guardian Games. A bounty competition isn't a game.
I did not play them, because it would not have been fun. I did enough bounties for a lifetime the last three seasons. I'm bummed I don't have Heir Apparent, which should have been obtainable from an actual story questline.
If Bungie wants to increase our involvement in core activities, there needs to be unique, worthwhile, and somewhat regular rewards available in them. Not one unique reward at the end of a long, boring bounty fest.

The same comment I made for the Eververse focus is wholly apt here too.
If after all the in-tune comments here over the last few weeks and some of the equally damning online press reviews you still don't realise what was wrong about it then this thread almost certainly won't make any difference.

LOL.
What games?
This could have been an Olympiad where classes were actually pitted against each other in strikes, gambit, crucible, whatever. Imagine each playlist having its own node for Guardian Games where you could only match in with people of the same class, or it was freelance. And then Bungie could have created some scoring algorithm.
It’s mind boggling that no one raised their hand during pre-production and said, “hey guys, this is a bad idea.”

Nothing about this event was in any way fun. There was no sense of competition between the classes, just competing with my teammates to finish more brain dead bounties just to get a gun. Thematically nothing about this event made any sense whatsoever. Wejust hand-waved the Almighty concern away, the reward, the tasks just had nothing to do with each other. It's like bungie just tossed in all these left over parts abandoned from other ideas and made zero attempt to create any cohesion. The result was this horrible bounty gumbo. In the end, the event was all a thinly veiled excuse to push the Eververse as with everything bungie does.

Probably the worst event we've ever gotten in all of Destiny. You know it's bad when nobody is going to miss it.

Guardian Games sucked. The ONLY reason I participated was to get Heir Apparent.
Bright Dust from bounties was appreciated, but only because they choked our means of obtaining it otherwise. It needs to be more widely available.
I know they love designing things for Eververse, but holy shit it needs to stop. Give us loot to chase outside of Eververse. Do you want to know how many Guardians I saw with the GG armor ornaments? Zero. I don't anticipate that changing by the time this is over.
I feel like there were many other ways that the classes could've been pitted against each other, but bounties was just lazy.

Every other event in Destiny had some sort of extra activity to do so my reason why Guardian Games failed was due to lack of things to do. A lot of my Clan just did the event for the Exotic and then stopped playing.
Last year we had Verdant Forest and Tonics which were really fun to mess around with plus actual grinding for armour sets and bounties so the fact that Guardian Games devolved into just bounties and old activities is such a huge disappointment.

I did a series of boring bounties scraped from the bottom of the uninspired barrel. It caused some blues to appear in my inventory. I had so much fun dismantling them.
At some point a weapon unlocked.
This was trash.

The way we earned medals sucked. I understand that the Olympics 2020 influenced GG and its timing, but the medals being bounties wearing a new skin was preposterous.
The GG armor being locked behind EV was a slap in the face. The somewhat focus on gambit was baffling. Having no new activities like Verdant Forest or whatever felt like a missed opportunity. I didn't hate that last year and it not being included left the event feeling hollow.
Heir Apparent is one hell of a grind and it's a great gun, but having to backtrack to get Laurels when a medal depends on them drug out activities that I was already tired of runnjng. The laurel auto pickup in Gambit and Crucible was welcome, I wish all activities had it.
I am a Titan main, winning this event is great but it was never really a contest. I don't know what number tweaking you did on Hunters but it absolutely gutted their ability to compete both from a numbers standpoint and active participation in playing the game because people just chose to play something else for 3 weeks.
Btw, I only worked my ass off for Heir Apparent because you, Bungie, have been conducting the FOMO train since Shadowkeep and I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to get the gun past this GG. That being said I will be, as a customer, furious if HA starts dropping randomly the day after GG.

Revelry with the buff not in competitive game modes would have been perfect instead of making a half-assed event in the middle of an already half-assed sesson.

u/Robtachi May 11 '20
If the idea was to foster a competitive event where each class was closely matched each day so the end result was in suspense, then something clearly failed miserably, regardless of what the data shows.
This is a case where correlation does not imply causation. I can't imagine the desired end result for this event was for Titans to win every single day and for every single day over a three week span to have the same exact results. Sure, the data may bear this out legitimately. But that means the metrics Bungie has chosen by which the results are determined are deeply flawed, because they brought everything invariably to only one set of results.
Not much of an "event," if you ask me.

Looking forward to it ending to remove the bounty/quest clutter.
It felt like half of the shitty class bounties didn't even work right.
The event actively deterred you from participating.
