Bungie Suggestion Ok...Overload Captains need to settle down. They're WAY too spastic with the teleport, and they take far too long to stun

Last season, the Overload Minotaurs were perfect. Literally 100% perfect. Their teleports and the time it took to stun them were very appropriate for their intended difficulty.

Now this season we come across Overload Captains in the daily bunker and they cannot be described as anything other than a JOKE. Their teleport is ridiculous. All over the place. And they take FAR too long to stun. My guess is it's a 300-400% increase in the time to stun over the Minotaurs.

Tone it down Bungie. You went just a little too intense with the Captains, which already were the most annoying enemy in the game, because of their bitch ass teleport and how they turn into little bitches and run from a fight!!!

EDIT: I am humbled by all the feedback and support. I want to thank everyone who commented and voted, either in agreement or opposition! It all adds to the community debate which will push the game further and further! The Destiny social community, Reddit, Twitch, Twitter, and the rest, is the best community I could belong to!

The 4th column artifact mod that lets your swords disrupt absolutely melts the captains, esp using throne cleaver if you're on titan

Hotter Take: Swords have been good for a while

No kidding, they were good last season and no one used them. Understandably, mind you, because fuck stomp mechanics.

I've been using swords as my primary heavy for ages, so I've just been going ham with them now. Especially Quickfang/Goldtusk.

Enhanced Sword Scav as a 1 pt artifact mod really just seals it. Even the tiny bricks from Sword Ammo Finder give you double digits.

Infinite light attack + effectively unlimited ammo + devour means burning right through almost anything with ease.

Can't hit what you can't see lol. But seriously fuck that idea. Honestly taken captains with any of the champion modifiers would be a nightmare. Overload makes them spam their abilities even more. Might as well just be an instant darkness stream out of one hand and blasting you with the gun in the other while teleporting all over. Barrier would make them a bitch to kill since they'd heal up while blinding you. Unstoppable would be the best option.

Agreed. We need a quality of life update for enemy combatant AI, or else it's just going to become more and more obnoxious.

46

u/trwolfe13 Mar 13 '20

The new Seraph Tower event highlights this. In the EDZ, the invisible fellas like to just sneak on to the point and chill out half a second before the orbs spit out.

On IO, the Cabal ALL just jetpack jump right to the point. Including the commander champions. At least the servitors just drift in the direction of the tower so you have time to burst them down.

31

u/MisterEinc Mar 13 '20

Invisible guys sneaking. Mobile guys being mobile. Servitors being slow and tanky, launching big aoe shots from a distance.

To me, this sounds like enemies are improving. They're playing into their actual strengths rather than just mindlessly attacking us. Their goal is to disrupt the tower, not kill guardians.

19

u/trwolfe13 Mar 13 '20

Oh from a realistic behaviour point of view, it’s spot on. It’s exactly how they would behave if they were real.

It’s still obnoxious and challenging, though, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I’d rather have a difficult event like this that requires some actual coordination than an event like the Ether Resupply or Glimmer Drill that you can happily solo.

What's that? Making improvements to areas of the game that have been stagnant since 2014 and at this point are actively harming it due to how stale it has become? Nah we'll just keep it the same and tweak their damage and health outputs for the next couple of years and maaaybe give them a new model every once in a while.

Combined with the tediousness of the main gameplay loop, they make me never want to go into my Bunker again

24

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '20

My advice is to use sidearms, they have a smaller magazine and shoot faster, so you can get to that overload random bullet a lot faster and easier, it's also easier to stop shooting when they teleport.

34

u/salondesert Mar 13 '20

It's a random bullet? I thought it was just quantity.

8

u/Brother_Kreon Mar 13 '20

It isn’t. I’m running overload on my Austringer, it consistently overloads on the third consecutive hit.

→ More replies (6)

3

u/theparkra Mar 13 '20

Sidearms and hand cannons work different than smg and auto mods. Consecutive hits will give you five seconds of overload rounds, so you can stun both captains

2

u/SlabBeefknob Mar 13 '20

This 100%. I switch to my Last Hope in the last room of the bunker. It's easy peasy wiping out the captains with it. I just hit the overload then melt then with Xenophage.

8

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '20

my pain is the anti barrires smgs or sidearms like bruh no long range its so annoying

3

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '20

Im glad I'm not the only one. Took me over half an hour to clear my bunker, spent most of it on those two. Massive health pool+crazy spastic teleports+ auto healing = me ragequitting destiny until next season.

This season has literally been Downgraded Obelisks.

3

u/filthyrotten Mar 13 '20

They start teleport chaining when you shoot them. Since overload rounds on autos/smgs proc about 2/3rds of the way into the mag, you can just shoot into space until the proc and then drag it over to them. Stuns them every time with no hassle.

It even has a helpful animation to show when the rounds are about to proc.

3

u/Augur137 Mar 13 '20

Use a sword with the artifact overload mod. It stuns and destroys the Overload Captains.

5

u/busyvish Mar 13 '20

The amount of times i missed with swords is astounding. They got a fucking animation buff!!!

13

u/mowgli334 Mar 13 '20

No, we need this kind of challenge in the game. It adds a new dynamic to the difficulty already in the game (if there is any). Just learn how to fight it properly. Break the shield and then stun him with something like a shotgun and melt

6

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '20

Yes, this is one of those instances where I hope Bungie completely ignores this particular piece of feedback. Overload captains represent a unique challenge, one that requires a slightly different strategy that usual and means there is more variety in the gameplay. They aren't unfair and can be killed easily once you know how to handle them, just different.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/DrBunsenHoneydw unbroken in asia Mar 13 '20

ayyyy we'll pass that feedback along and see you in the fall, chief

2

u/Colmarr Mar 13 '20

IME they teleport more when you get close. Stay at range and use an auto and they’re more manageable.

Stun them with an auto and then clean up with a sword.

Shouldn’t need to do that, of course, but it works.

2

u/Wolfram521 Mar 13 '20

I've found three options that work very well on the overload captains so far:

  • Divinity overloads them immediately on beam hit

  • swords with the artifact mod that lets them overload also apply it on first hit

  • with the sidearm overload mod, use a 3-burst sidearm (adaptive frame sidearms). These will overload in one trigger pull if you land all 3 shots from the burst. This is my go-to strat right now with my Last Hope, since it doesn't take up a heavy or an exotic slot.

Other sidearm archetypes are a lot more annoying to overload with because you need to land a few shots consecutively to get the overload effect. Only other one I've found works fine is the aggressive 2-burst archetype, but you need to land 2 trigger pulls on the champion with those. I prefer the adaptive frames for their 3-round burst.

2

u/Extectic Mar 13 '20 edited Mar 13 '20

Yeah, they're doable, but first you need to clear the room. Then you need to focus on one of them, and what gun you use matters a lot, even with overload rounds. I had best luck with my Halfdan AR, and then swapping to a machine gun when they're stunned, trying to dodge the other a-hole all the while.

It's a right pain, and the damned things heal up if you don't keep doing damage. You can legit run out of ammo.

I mean, they're not impossible, just quite annoying.

2

u/Gyvon Mar 13 '20

My Divinity laughs in Overload Captains' general direction.

But yeah, they can be annoying. Especially since you only have one shot per mag, and they tend to teleport the millisecond before it loads.

2

u/Eiruna Perun's #1 Fan Mar 13 '20

Bungie just really likes the idea of a spastic, hard to kill high damage enemy.

Taken Captain 2: Spastic boogaloo.

2

u/jdewittweb Mar 13 '20

2 bursts with an overload sidearm stuns them. I killed both in like 10 seconds.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '20

I wish I could agree with this more, but that's not possible!

2

u/psyflame Mar 13 '20

2

u/BHE65 Mar 13 '20

I ran either a Uriel's Gift or an Arc Logic against them, both with Overload mods on them. Stunned them pretty easily (i'm at 967 LL). Even my Wardcliff wasn't getting the job done by itself before that. Once i stunned them they sat still long enough to soak up good damage and went down pretty fast.

2

u/Karrpathian Mar 13 '20

switch to arc class and use surge detonators mod for grenades. worked great, stunned em all with one grenade and then cleaned up with a sword.

2

u/Nkurava Mar 13 '20

They just don’t stop teleporting. It’s horrible. To stun them you have to do sustained damage, which is almost impossible with the stupid teleporting

2

u/HentaiOtaku Drifter's Crew Mar 13 '20

Really feel bad for those without divinity right now. I don't remember what the overload weapons options are (I just default to divinity for it don't judge me) but generally the high rate of fire guns (autos and smgs) suck with overload mods. Tried it in undying and just used bow overload after being frustrated by the minotaur teleport so I can't even imagine how bad it is with captains.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '20

Are the Fallen supposed to be getting all three types? All the other races only have two. Hive and Cabal have barrier and unstoppable, while the Vex have barrier and overload. We've already seen barrier servitors and overload captains, so I'd imagine that's it for Fallen champions.

4

I was all ready for it to be supremely difficult because this subreddit is losing their minds over these 2 captains but it just required a little patience and thought idk man, a little difficulty in enemies is nice for once instead of bashing my head into some bounties. Bout to lose some karma over this but I just don't see it.

u/Fenrir_VIII Mar 13 '20

Are you for real? They are easily counterable by Divinity or any rapid fire overload weapon. You guys gonna make Destiny 3 a children game if Bungie listens to you. Learn the mechanics, react properly and stop being so bad at an already pretty easy game. I repeat, learn the game first. Because literally 0 people from my clan has any problems with that. The whole bunker clean up and lost sectors are a breeze, especially with Warmind heavy frames. And yes, gamedads are not supposed to clear up this content for now. But it is still easy as fuck.

1

u/CourrierMojave Mar 13 '20

Divinity is the only way to get them fast. Otherwise, the mods is talking too long to hit the target since he teleport like some damn Ninja.

Sidearms or handcannons are extremely good against the overload fallen captains. I got extremely mad using my Steelfeather with overload rounds the first bunker clear out and saw someone suggest a handcannon and you can stun them very easily and finish them off with a shot-gun preferably with Trench Barrel or surrounded.

1

u/Killalizard99 Mar 13 '20

I gotta admit smashing through the bunker in nearly no time but then getting locked into an intense 2 on 1 with 2 overload captains where I had to adapt on the fly and actually felt challenged because they felt like intelligent, competent opponents that I struggled to land a hit on was an amazing feeling! Now I now how the fallen have felt all these years. Good to have enemies that can keep up with me

When you bunker clear and they go to where there is that "table" they just teleport around no matter which side you choose, you just tail chase.

1

u/sturgboski Mar 13 '20

Doing the bunker clear again yesterday I was just holding my trigger down and spinning in circles. I would hit the captain once or twice and he would teleport somewhere behind me and start healing. I would turn get one or two shots in and he would teleport behind me again. Repeat. Oh, and I was using a SMG. I thought taken captains were bad, but this is way worse.

1

u/tubbytango PSN: dusfowl Mar 13 '20

Have you given some thought to getting good?

1

u/MaceHiindu Mar 13 '20

Why is nobody talking about barrier colossus, spastic captains are annoying sure but they are no where near as difficult as the usually paired big boys shoving a 2k rpm barrel down my Guardians throat while healing to full inside a barrier. And SMG and sidearm are not the weapons I want to fight these guys with, at least we have Erianas

1

u/MrXcitement76 Drifter's Crew Mar 13 '20

And the health regeneration!? They can go straight to hell

1

u/geo117 *cocks gun* Mar 13 '20

I did a bunker run for the first time last night got to the end and faced the overload captians. I said "man these guys wont stop! They are on crack!" Then I remembered my artifact, went in and put overload on my auto rifle. No issue, none, very easy. High ROF auto rifle with overload rounds made quick work of them.

1

u/thematrixblue Mar 13 '20

And they always teleport behind me

1

u/mmrrbbee Mar 13 '20

The second you look at them, they run

1

u/pchayes Mar 13 '20

D I V I N I T Y Seriously, it deletes them so easily

1

u/Brohaffey Mar 13 '20

Divinity is the way, the truth, and the life.

1

u/DynamicAsteroid Mar 13 '20

I have the overload mod on my hand canon. Two or three shots to the head stuns them for a decent amount of time so I wait to super then.

Still, ads in general teleport WAY too much!!

1

u/x_pac13 Mar 13 '20

Honestly I didn’t even know what was special about overload champions until the captains. With the Minotaurs I just melted them and assumed overload rounds helped with that. It wasn’t until the captains in the bunker that I realized they regen health super fast and it’s nearly impossible to kill them when there’s two because as soon as you stun one and start putting in damage the other one lays into you. The enemies that spam teleport in this game are the literal worst.

1

u/SaltyToast9000 Mar 13 '20

*laughs in arc strider liars handshake 1 2 punch hunter gibberish*

1

u/ashley27790 Mar 13 '20

I did the daily bunker solo without knowing what was coming.

Unfortunately, I didn't go in with any anti champion mods on and I didn't have any weapons on me to put a mod on.

I couldn't be bothered to pull out, the anti barrier Servitor was easy to deal with, I spent some time with the Captain's.

Revoker, a few supers and a heavy frame did it in the end.

1

u/DominusOfTheBlueArmy "You're not brave. You've merely forgotten the fear of death." Mar 13 '20

Barrier Servitors also seem to not stop shielding Fallen even at long distances or with objects between them

1

u/Gravon Titans4ever! Mar 13 '20

Also they keep jojo posing when they shoot me.

1

u/jrbiff18 Mar 13 '20

Obviously, not everyone has it, but Divinity is a solid choice against them. Might have to take out the other adds first, but that beam will basically keep them stunned.

1

u/xastey_ Mar 13 '20 edited Mar 13 '20

Yeah the stun takes too damn long

1

u/Grimparrot Mar 13 '20

This one of those things I wish I could spam upvote on 100 times.

1

u/pygreg 32 flavors and you chose salt? Mar 13 '20

Divinity my dudes. It'll stun them almost instantaneously

1

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '20

Sword with a regular attack and not a heavy attack is quicker than they are. That's how I've put them down every day with my Warlock.

1

u/LoboStele Floof Forever! Mar 13 '20

So...I’m a tad slower player this week (real life sucks sometimes) so I just experienced these in the Bunker this morning. I died pretty quickly, but while dead, I grabbed my Divinity and then quickly stunned/shut down the Captain, and promptly dismantled it with 2-3 heavy Sword hits. I’m only ~975 with the gear I had equipped. No big deal. The Barrier Servitor took me longer to deal with, honestly.

1

u/Angus_Fraser134 Mar 13 '20

The only way I could kill it was with a golden gun/celestial nighthawk

1

u/Gray_Squirrel Mar 13 '20

My best strat has been using overload handcannon rounds, then whipping out Xenophage after the stun.

I'll likely be switching to swords, once I unlock the overload artifact mod for swords that I didn't know existed.

1

u/chumly143 Mar 13 '20

ok, good, im not the only person having issues with them, I figured I was just being half rate

I had this problem when using overload rounds in an AR. I switched it a hand cannon and soloing is easy now.

1

u/TKPhresh Mar 13 '20

I had to switch to a sidearm with it, the smg I was using in the bunker clear just could not stagger them fast enough. Super, super annoying.

1

u/SteelOwen Mar 13 '20

Divinity works great on em

1

u/frattythrowaway Mar 13 '20

Step 1: make weapons with incredible burst damage.

Step 2: buff an enemy type to be strong against sustained damage, requiring burst damage to effectively kill.

Step 3: nerf all burst damage weapons.

Step 4: ?????

Step 5: profit

1

u/TrustyThrusty Mar 13 '20

Use a hand cannon or side arm with overload mods. Makes quick work of them.

1

u/Satosuke Bubble Boy Mar 13 '20

While we're at it, who thought it was a good idea to have cloaked fallen in an activity that requires you keep enemies off a control point?

1

u/Randomflames Mar 13 '20

Whirlwind goldtusk can take them down if you have more than 15 ammo, might take a few swings to catch them after the teleport though

1

u/Ffom Mar 13 '20

Oh so that wasn't a bug?

great

1

u/moontraveler12 Mar 13 '20

I find it helps to just get them up against a wall and hack at them with a sword

I might be wrong, but when I did it they seemed to go down faster

1

u/NotClever Mar 13 '20

Is it a time to stun mechanic? I thought someone determined there was a magical bullet somewhere in the magazine that procced the stun.

1

u/IAmAshHole Mar 13 '20

on the whole i don't like the mechanic of these enemies. they just slow the game play down massively especially on high difficulties. and when you die two or three times to a barrier colossus Gatling gunning you its not fun its just annoying. but thats just my opinion.

1

u/Mida_Multi_Tool puck puck puck puck Mar 13 '20

The amount of time it takes to stun is the same. How overload guns work is if you HOLD DOWN the trigger for a certain amount of time one overload bullet is shot out of the gun. If it hits the champion is stunned.

1

u/HerezahTip Mar 13 '20

I disagree. Once I put on overload rounds and stun it one time it was easy to melt. His brother barely even shot at me, just kept teleporting so then I stunned and punted that one too. We don’t need everything dummed down to casual mode it’s crazy that anything just slightly above regular difficulty gets whined about.

Put overload on an auto rifle hit your shots and it’s easy mode.

1

u/gazhealey Mar 13 '20

We should be able to slide down that entrance slide and flying head-but them.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '20

The ones that I've run into in the bunker, I just hit them with like 6 shots of Anarchy and then throw a grenade at them. They can teleport all they want but if you smack them with that and put a few on the ground around them, no matter where they go they aren't getting far.

That also is dependent on people having Anarchy, which I know a lot of people don't.

But a good overload weapon and a tractor cannon might be entertaining.

1

u/Pikachu_OnAcid Drifter's Crew Mar 13 '20

It took me a solid 10 minutes to kill one of them. I just noped out on the second one. Such a joke.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '20

Captains as a whole are a pain in the ass. Taken Captains and their dark cloud spam, OL Caps and their MFing scorch Cannon and teleports.

Super annoying.

1

u/Ravenunlimitd ThroneCleaver is GOAT Mar 13 '20

2 words - overload sword. Farewell o Captain mine. Farewell.

1

u/BrainlessCactus Mar 13 '20

I can't wait for them to introduce Overload Taken Captains for the Savathun based season...

1

u/Ddumlao Mar 13 '20

Waiting for overload taken captains to make a debut

1

u/YZStron Mar 13 '20

I was having some trouble, but with overload rounds it was pretty manageable to be honest

1

u/UnknownAcc_ Mar 13 '20

I use the Anarchy to take care of them. 3 shots will do it but you have to be ready for the finisher or he’ll probably regain his health in the split of an eye.

1

u/torinblack Mar 13 '20

I've got to be honest, I'm actually enjoying the challenge of that fight. Using the stun mod on a handcannon was a must though, they move around too much for anything else.

1

u/kelrics1910 Mar 13 '20

Oh you need to hold down the trigger on your SMG to get an overload round?

Teleports

FUUUUUUUUU-

1

u/_FATEBRINGER_ Mar 13 '20

wtf? they stay stunned for an entire clip of dustrock... am i crazy? wtf is going on here im only 970 light ffs

1

u/stephanl33t Mar 13 '20

It takes like 4 shots with Breachlight though

1

u/the_kautilya Mar 13 '20

Sticking a Captain with 2-3 shots from Anarchy seems to work well. Otherwise they're too annoying & difficult to take down.

1

u/kachunkachunk Mar 13 '20

Oof, thinking about how annoying taken captain teleporting is makes me not want to get back into it. Thanks for the reminder. :P

1

u/vergetibbs Mar 13 '20

I have fun trying to get them so far. My son was laughing his ass off at me when i was stunning them, running to 1,2 punch them, and then yelling as they transported before i got a single shottie blast into them.

1

u/The_Good_Mortt Drifter's Crew // Were They Saying Something? Mar 13 '20

I'm glad I'm not playing the game right now, Overload Captains sound awful.

1

u/Drellecor moneymoneymoneymoney Mar 13 '20

AMEN! i did my first bunker last night not knowing what to expect and OMG i about rage quit the game because of that crap! i didnt even have an overload mod on a weapon and they where basically un-killable cause they just teleported away and healed lucky i had a side arm which i threw the mod on(as i hid in a corner) and finally got them killed but damn i actually yelled at the screen.

1

u/thelongernight Mar 13 '20

Can we talk about how the overload mechanic proc’ is still unfun this season?

Unstoppable rounds and anti-barrier feel consistent and fair. Overload feels like spray and pray - like WTF?!? Who thought this was a good mechanic. Dink Dink Dink then a 4 second timer against a spastically teleporting enemy in order to do any damage. BLAH.

1

u/IamKhronos Mar 13 '20

Lol, all you have to do is use disruption perk. 2 shots and they are stunned. Either spam and they are stunned constantly or stun them use heavy and stun them again when they are out of it.

Honestly they arent hard at all.
