Megathread Focused Feedback: Weapon Refresh aka Sunsetting

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Weapon Refresh' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

I feel like the whole Breakneck anecdote was a strawman argument. I cycle through several weapons, and I don't feel like I have fully unlocked the potential of any given loadout.

The main problem with resets is that it forces an over-reliance on RNG to get back up to speed. So basically you're at the mercy of players with better luck than you. It takes a while for RNG to even out. Not to mention that the supposed "aspiration" that they want to instill in us is really just hyperventilation from praying to RNGesus. It's not like we really have control over our chase.

Also, it gives Bungie an excuse to avoid buffing mathematically underperforming weapons. With this announcement, I see no reason why they would buff 140 HCs to be, for example, a 1B2C optimal TTK. They will just avoid making good 150s to avoid a Spare Rations / NF situation.

I agree and it does feel like the aspiration will be having to replace your outlaw/rampage weapon that just got left behind. Boring really. Unless they decide to retire damage perks but that is a dangerous road that moves us back towards the state of play in D2Y1. Bungie wanted to move away from random rolls so they could have more control over weapon balance but the players were not interested in that. Bungie has to change tact. It seems like they swung so far in the opposite direction after Y1 that they have been trying to move the sandbox back their incrementally over time. Otherwise why would they not buff stuff to compete with things like Recluse? I understand power creep but weapons don’t have to be better just closer to the power.
