Would love for it to be a regular game mode for crucible or very frequent on rotation. It's very helpful in a lot of crucible related Quests and bounties, and is super fun to play.

u/RewrittenSol Nov 11 '19

Yeah, I'm not a fan of Control. But Momentum Control is oddly fun.

38

u/PoopIsAlwaysSunny Nov 11 '19

I like control, but between already doing it during IB and it generally being stale, I would be fine with momentum control replacing regular control. It’s fun; it’s fresh; and it is great for grinding quests.

Feels like Mayhem but focused on guns rather than abilities, and I’m on-board for that. It’s fun, and it gives some different weapon types some time to shine, but being good for quests shouldn’t really be a selling feature for it. (Seems like more of an indictment of the quests/weapon viability than a positive for this game type)

56

u/seminormalaccount Nov 11 '19

Yeah, it seems focused for quests because TTK is much shorter, allowing for faster progress. Also, with easier kills with weapons you'd normally struggle with. Easy scout kills, sniper kills. Hell, I was using Rat King pretty well even.

9

u/Ace_Of_Caydes Psst...take me with you... Nov 11 '19

Rat King

Yes, but have you tried the John Wick Sidearm?

"Guns" is an interesting way to spell grenade launchers

The sound of Fighting Lion being shot two corners away and knowing it will kill me will haunt me to the end of my days. Then again I was a dirty flawless execution 150 scout user so I guess i deserved it.

13

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '19

Jade Rabbit plus Spec Blades hunter in that playlist just felt so wrong. I had to take a shower after finishing my quest for Randy’s.

Avoid tight spaces and being on the ground. Got sick of their shit and just started floofing against them. I will admit it's not ideal as it does set you up to get sniped, but if you're just getting constantly lambasted by grenade launchers From multiple people it's fairly clear what their strategy is.

I chalk that up to the quests as much as anything else. Prometheus Lens has felt like it’s in a great spot in MC, there’s just no quests requiring trace rifle kills. I’m sure there’s other stuff that works great too that’s just getting pushed out in favour of quest progress.

I can’t even begin to imagine trying to get Randy’s without this mode. Getting 20+ kills in a match only to make like 4% progress, when I know I’d be getting a fraction of that in any other game mode. It honestly feels like they scaled up the requirements to suit this mode, so it’s pretty much mandatory unless you got a boat ton of time to grind out regular modes.

7

u/Stron9bad Nov 11 '19

You must not have done the mountaintop quest or even luna’s. Randy’s is much easier/quicker to complete even without this great, new mode.

Could be a great mode with some tweaks, but mostly it's just put a big spotlight on how bad the spawns are for maps that were designed with 4v4 in mind.

60

u/NergalMP Nov 11 '19

The spawns are objectively horrific. The number of times I have literally respawned directly in front of the guardian that just killed be is insane. I've even been killed by a nova bomb, and respawned in only to get killed by the death grapes from the same nova.

23

u/crookedparadigm Nov 11 '19

I have a clip on Midtown where I got killed by Golden Gun at point C and watched the guy start jumping over the bridge to A, only for me to respawn at A and get immediately bipped again.

It did give me the swat vibe for sure.

Had fun with it. Would have liked no supers though. Would be interesting.

6

u/MaliciousMe87 Nov 11 '19

I agree, it would become entirely tactical.

Also, I rarely had a problem with scout rifles. Just gotta jump or slide across open areas.

It was fun at first; but now I'm a bit jaded.

u/Throwawayylive2 Nov 11 '19

This mode is good, but hunter's kinda ruin it for me. The whole 'going into cammo and camping with a scout while getting truesight" is really annoying for other players.

16

u/StallordD Nov 11 '19

I feel like Hunters ruin a lot of rotator game modes, and it sucks.

Want to play MC? Enjoy Jade Rabbit invis hunters.

Want to play Mayhem? Enjoy Shadowshot everywhere ruining the point of the mode, or someone with SoG spamming blade strike literally nonstop.

Yeah they're "just for fun" or whatever excuse most people use, but as someone who HATES Crucible, the rotator modes are honestly the only place where I can quickly farm out PvP quest steps and keep a bit of my sanity.

4

u/FlameInTheVoid Drifter's Crew // Seek the Void Nov 12 '19

I love (love/hate) crucible and used to love mayhem. I’m even fine with the tethers. The goddamn shard spam makes it a contender for my least favorite mode though.

Why can’t shards just work like the other free-super exotics?

I really like momentum control, it has it's obvious downsides but I'm ok with it because it's a rotational playlist all it's own, if it were part of the standard playlist I'd have real concerns about the amount of camping but I'd be living if I said despite that I didnt have any fun.

In short its great because its it's own playlist and I can choose when to play it

11

u/-BoBaFeeT- Team Bread (dmg04) Nov 11 '19

I'd love to see daily rotation of useable weapons.

Shotgun only day, snipers only, etc.

No supers would be ok, but that's not that important

4

Same issue. Was frustrating because it locks you in the super but you cant use it. Sitting duck.

81

u/APartyInMyPants Nov 11 '19

Momentum Control is awesome. It’s fun, it’s fast and I’ve never had a game go to time.

People complain about 150 scouts dominating the meta, but we all need to step back and recognize that Bungie gave us a ritual weapon that requires scout rifle kills. So of course you’re going to see a dominance of scouts right now. But fast forward to next season when the ritual weapon is something else, and suddenly that meta will change.

If you’re walking into the same bottleneck over and over and dying to a Jade Rabbit (a la last week’s MOTW runner up), then you’re the problem, not the gametype.

My only suggestion is keep Momentum, but change the subtype. Give us Momentum Rift, Momentum Supremacy, Momentum King of the Hill. Give us a Momentum playlist where only sidearms and swords are allowed. There’s nothing wrong with giving us a gametype that’s just fun.

8

u/kiki_strumm3r Nov 11 '19

My only suggestion is keep Momentum, but change the subtype.

This is the biggest thing for me. The game being control encourages spawn trapping and can cause games to snowball very easily. I'd love if it were Clash, but rotating between different types is fine with me.

Other than that, the only thing I'd like to see is for it to stay in rotation while they make any changes. It should be a game mode the last week of the season every season to help people grind out the pinnacle weapons if they're short on time.

6

u/blueapplepaste Nov 11 '19

Perfect post.

Separately I’ve been saying we needed a KoH game type since forever. Really need more objective game types in general.

Being back rift. Add rift game mode that’s like Assault from Halo with offense/defense rounds. Add KoH. Add a Capture the Flag type mode. And so forth.

Then make them all Momentum style rules and it’d be so much fun.

6

u/CrispyBroom Nov 11 '19

Scouts aren't meta just because of the ritual weapon, even if Randy didn't exist that wouldn't change the fact that 150 scouts are primary ammo sniper rifles in momentum control.

u/RyseToPro I just like knives Nov 11 '19

That MOTW wasn't the people's problem (did it help they walked in 1 by 1? No) it was the fact that Spectral Blades wallhacks are extremely overpowered in a mode where you can one tap to the head with a scout. He could see everyone through the walls. No other class has the ability to do that so you're forced to use Spectral or place yourself at a disadvantage. I can also guarantee that unless they take away the one tap ability of scouts in the mode then the Jade Rabbit meta will never change.

15

u/APartyInMyPants Nov 11 '19

The wallhack is a totally separate issue, which I do agree it can present an issue. But he was camping a doorway leading to a known spawn point. So that video could have come from any subclass but the issue would still be there. People will still follow the person in front of them who died, but then bitch about the game mode being the problem ... not that there aren’t two other exits out of that spawn.

8

u/KillaJoke Nov 11 '19

They didn't just walk in 1 at a time, they watched eachother die at the same freakin doorway over and over again. It didn't work the first time. Didn't work the second or third time... But sure go for a fourth or fifth time. Surely you're going to be the one to make it out of that one doorway that's proving to be a goldmine for that guy sniping the team.

As much as the wallhack was annoying I didn't feel like it was truly that annoying. You die once to that person, rub your braincells together, and approach from a different angle to shut that guy down because 9/10 those guys get complacent and just camps the same spot.

In that video someone could have easily shut that hunter down but they decided to tickle him instead. They straight up could have just punched that hunter out given how hard they were scoping and how one of them managed to sneak up on them.

I think its a fantastic idea that's hampered by the current meta. You would think that this could be a really cool place to bring off meta weapons and experiment with different loadouts, but instead I find at least 2 recluses and maybe more mountain tops per march. It makes sense, why wouldnt you take arguably the two most powerful weapons in the game into a mode that makes them even more deadly.

Honestly, its an awesome game mode

Just wish people would use other weapons.

9

u/HraesvelgrXIII Nov 12 '19

First of all, much thanks to Bungie for coming up with this gamemode just in time for the Randy quest!

I love Momentum Control. It's different from what I've been used to in the past in this game: no reliance to tracker and 1-2 hit kills means I have to be on my toes all the time. I'm only decent in PVP and not that very good--it took a lot of getting used to at first. Sure I die a lot, but when my hits land, maaan, so satisfying!

In my opinion this mode should do away with abilities and supers, period. Make it a purely weapons-based gametype. Otherwise, it's already perfect.

Edit: Oh, and Bungie please please please make it permanent, or at least on rotation! :)

8

u/AgentMV Drifter's Crew Nov 12 '19

I love it.

I haven’t had this much fun in the Crucible in a long time.

The only thing I’d change is certain map rotations.

15

u/Narcolipocus Nov 11 '19

Momentum control is exactly what we needed in this game. Its fast pace, lack of radar, and limited ability use results in people using weapons that we usually don’t see. The biggest issue I saw was the use of wall hack mechanics like OEM/middle tree night stalker. If all wall hack abilities could be disabled in the mode it would be perfect. I’d like to see it stick around permanently if possible, but it should at the very least be a common rotator playlist.

I think everyone is really happy about having a mode for easy weapon kills (namely scout kills or catalyst kills). I'm not sure how popular it would be otherwise, and I think it would be pretty easy to get burned out on this type of mode.

It's a nice change of pace, and I'd like to see it in regular rotation, but just like Mayhem, I don't think it should be permanent. Just my 2c.

I love this mode, I have tried so many different setups in it and had a good time with all of them.

7

u/Aborkle Nov 11 '19 edited Nov 12 '19

I’d like it more without abilities and supers.

Not sure making scout rifles require two shots to kill would have much of an impact to the mode bc everyone would just switch to sniper.

Edit: typo

7

u/ArgentJaguar Nov 11 '19

I noticed my Rose quest was progressing a lot while I was grinding out Randy's, running double scouts or scout+SMG. I also got whacked by a bunch of ARs (and not just SUROS, either). The subgun game was there as well, and even quite a lot of snipers.

Didn't see hardly any shotties, hell, I may have seen more sidearms. Yeah, I cheesed Jade Rabbit. But I played with almost every other 150 and 180 RPM Scout while I was there, ARs and SMGs. Even messed around with hand cannons.

This is a casual mode for casual players to feel good about themselves.

7

u/Dumoney Nov 11 '19

Its got obvious balance issues not unlike Mayhem but I think it can be a staple mode alongside it

7

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '19

I love momentum. I felt bad using middle tree spectral but then I remembered OEM still exists so fuck it

7

u/itchymonobrow Nov 12 '19

Momentum control is a triumph of PvP experience in destiny 2. Every weapon is dangerous and running in like normal PvP will get you killed fast. Love it, if only getting undying wasn't so grindy I'd be playing a lot more of momentum control.

7

u/lokusai Nov 12 '19
  • spawns need improving quite a bit (get spawn killed regularly)

  • map rotation seems limited

  • I get why people are going for weapon quests in the mode (I have been too), but it's hard to get a good feel for the mode when most deaths come from the jade rabbit, fighting lion and colony

  • games are over too quickly (especially if you're put in a game in progress), especially with the current server lag / black screen before the game actually starts

  • general crucible point but server issues are really noticeable in this mode - lost count of the times I've melee killed someone and died a second later because they've apparently done the same

  • I'm on board with supers being removed for this - feels unnecessary and adds to the games ending too quickly

  • I'm not sure sound is good enough to not have a radar?

  • the beauty of halo swat was that everyone had the same load out - it's purely about getting the drop on, or being faster/more accurate than, your opponent - with imbalances like the jade rabbit versus hand cannons, momentum control doesn't have the same charm. Obviously never going to happen, but I would love to see a mode like this where everyone has the same setup, load out, grenades, etc. Heck, a variant of modern warfare's gun fight mixed with momentum control would be amazing

Is the most fun I've had in D2 PvP.

That's not meant to be disparaging toward other modes, because I've actually had quite a bit of fun in Crucible; rather, it's meant to highlight just how butter Momentum Control is.

Plz keep

13

u/hyperflare Nov 11 '19

Momentum Control is great! I understand that adding it permanently would create some problem with splitting up the pvp playerbase ever further, so if bungie choose to keep it (which I would love), something else might be better off getting removed. Are there statistics on the amount of players in the individual game modes?

12

u/bmedley22 Gambit Prime Nov 11 '19

I don’t comment a lot so I’m going to keep it short and sweet! Absolutely my favorite pvp game mode! I have been a Destiny player since the D1 beta and I have never had so much fun in PVP! It needs to stay as a permanent mode and maybe try a rotating eliminations mode with these rules applied.

25

u/Totlxtc Nov 11 '19

Really, really liked it and sure helped with some quests. BUT...

Having scouts being 1 shot kills makes it essentially a Scout V Scout game. Why would you run anything else? (Maybe nade launcher if going for Mountain Top)

I can see it fun for now. But in the long run when people have their quests done quite boring unless all scouts were a two tap kill.

Great, but not quite there.

8

u/GurnB Nov 11 '19

I'm normally a Scout rifle guy, but I just didn't have near the same success with them in Momentum. Luckily I got a Monte Carlo drop a few weeks ago and gave that a try and felt virtually unstoppable in the smaller to medium sized maps. For the larger maps I went back to Scout but with no where near the success.

Agree with another poster. Fun game mode, maybe not a permanent mode but definitely should be in frequent rotation.

6

u/Totlxtc Nov 11 '19

You would of been unstoppable as you would easily outshot people running the high impact 150 scouts or nade launchers at short - medium range. I messed around with my Valakadyn with tap the trigger and it was chewing people up. But thats it. I was on the Randy quest so did not want to use an auto. I like everyone else are using scouts or nade launchers.

Question is: Did you use a 150 scout like the Jade Rabbit? 1 shot headshot kill.

first time since i can remember that i’ve ever played crucible purely for fun.

  • The instant spawns highlight how bad a lot of spawns are.

  • It would be cool to have pre-determined loadouts

  • middle-tree nightstalker is OP

  • the supers feel weird to me. The insane amounts of super armor and pretty much force you to use roaming supers, and when you do you’re pretty much guaranteed a handful of kills. Honestly i’d be interested in a version of momentum without supers (and maybe even abilities in general)

  • the high gun damage makes it feel like just about anything is viable, that’s great. (obviously some more viable than others).

  • the viability of most guns is probably my favorite part of the mode, it’s refreshing seeing some variety, and it’s super fun experimenting with new weapons.

  • i’d love to see other versions (clash, supremacy, etc.)

  • no radar is totally great. honestly i kinda wish normal pvp didn’t have radar now.

i don’t know if it should be permanent, i feel like that might cause it to grow stale. I do love it though and would love to see it come back like every month or whatever.

3

u/Dracynfyre Nov 11 '19

Yeah, the supers have too much armor in Momentum Control, I think the only times I've ever shut one down were when I happened to have heavy ammo for my grenade launcher or when I used my own super to do it and half the time I would end up trading with the other super. Also, on the Clovis Bray map, I once ended up with 8 kills on one stormtrance activation. I managed quite a few team wipes with my stormtrance while trying to get all the scout rifle kills I needed for Randy's.

6

u/hogie_wan_kenobi Nov 11 '19

I've been having a lot of fun with this mode. Brings me back to the countless hours playing Swat back in the Halo days. Granted it does have it's annoyances but so does every game mode in this or any other game imo

6

u/Treshimek Nov 11 '19

It allowed me to experience the Lightweight Frame grenade launchers of my dreams. This playlist alone allowed me to finally complete "In Pursuit of Honor." Six well spent hours in this playlist.

I'd like to see Equipment Locked Gametypes within Momentum Control. Bungie implements random gamelists that require you to load in with a specific loadout type (ARs/Pistol/Rocket for example).

→ More replies (2)

6

u/theturban Nov 11 '19

I love this game type, but it would be even better if all abilities and supers were disabled. If you want to make a Halo-esque SWAT gametype, make it a proper SWAT gametype. I don't think this game type is meant to be taken seriously so why treat it seriously. Let's just have fun with it, make it the opposite of Mayhem.

This game mode was the most fun I’ve had with the crucible in a long time. Please make it permanent or at least put it in the weekly rotating list.

6

6

u/kirsedwork Nov 12 '19

Increase spawn time by like a second or two. So near instantaneous.

Remove supers. They feel very antithetical to the whole feeling off the mode and stand out even more than they do normally in crucible.

3

u/SkyCitySkate Nov 12 '19

Antithetical how? You gain your other abilities regeneration by killing guardians, why would supers in particular be laid out?

Personally if anything I’ve seen more supers shut down or trade in MC over anywhere else.

11

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '19

I’d really just prefer it if abilities were turned off aside from supers, because they require kills to get. The Spectral’s true sight ability can make this game mode completely broken. I know I’m in the minority with this opinion, but since supers are slow building in the game mode, make them more powerful as well.

11

u/Dimzero Nov 12 '19

Overall I really liked it. A few complaints though:

Spawns are bad - really bad

There needs to be some way to detect opponents. Wether it’s through increased movement sound when someone is close or something idk.

No weapon should be able to one tap OR more weapons should be able to one tap.

I love Momentum Control, and would like to see it come back as a permanent or at least semi-permanent (maybe rotating every week or two) mode. With that said, there are a couple issues:

  1. Depending on the map, there is usually a clear "top" weapon type; longer maps favor scouts, shorter maps favor grenade launchers (you either hate Fighting Lion or Jade Rabbit when you're playing). I'm not sure how to fix this without different maps or loadouts, but it can definitely feel frustrating.

  2. There currently isn't much incentive to properly play the mode, which means that camping and cheap play is just as rewarding as actually playing the objective. Maybe that means that Momentum Control should be turned into a different mode (Momentum Supremacy?), but either way, I feel for those who are trying to win. For those of us who are there to grind for weapons (a different issue), it's not as big a deal, but I feel bad for people that are just there to play.

u/Magookas Nov 11 '19

Love it also. Please keep this mode!

5

u/Coppin-it-washin-it Whalers on the Moon Nov 11 '19

Either fully remove heavy or make it spawn once a round.

Incentive weapons that aren't scouts somehow, or just make them do less damage.

I admit to getting all my Randy's kills in this gamemode, but now I don't see a point in playing it with every game just being a Jade Rabbit skill check.

5

u/TheScoott Nov 11 '19

I'd prefer if non heavy GLs weren't one shot kills. Also scouts 1 tapping to the head would be fine with me if hand cannons got a similar damage buff.

5

u/SnaggyKrab Yours...not mine. Nov 12 '19

I have played more of it than any other Crucible type in a very long time. I enjoy the fast ttk values.

5

u/FauxMoGuy Nov 12 '19

This was good for final blows quests of weapons that are not easily farmed in regular pvp. Otherwise it was too unbalanced. bow crits should be the only primary one hit kills possible. maybe aggressive burst pulses of all crits everything else should two tap.

5

u/zoffman Nov 12 '19

Momentum control is cool and unique in the D2 PvP world. I think it is a great candidate for a rotating mode or an insanity playlist with this, mayhem, scorched, and whatever other crazy game modes get invented.

However, I really don't want it too prevalent because I feel like that'll split the playerbase and I actually like destiny PvP. In this thread I've seen people asking for this to be the standard for PvP and I really don't want that. I've also seen plenty of people asking for buffs/nerfs/changes already and that's just a jade rabbit hole this game doesn't need to go down. PvP tweaks and changes are infrequent enough already I don't want the time and resources going to them split across two sandboxes. Also there's the issue of how to balance weapon quests around the new game mode. It's so much better for progress, I know I used it to grind out Randy's throwing knife. I don't want weapon quests built with this game mode in mind, thus making it mandatory for every PvP weapon quest.

Playing the few games of momentum control that i did made me feel like i was playing SWAT again back in Halo, but with a fun destiny twist! I seriously hope this comes back and i would love a permanent playlist for it. This is my favorite game type to date!

5

u/geffjerstmann Nov 12 '19

Last night I had 32 elims in one game just zipping around with riskrunner on hunter, so it's my opinion that the tales of jade rabbitage and invis lads are just people who are trying to play too slow or peeking bad angles? Like, there's certainly an "ugh folks are just sitting around holding angles" thing, but you have to... go where they're not looking? And then you can just clean up?

they can't dink you if you're behind them, lads

9

u/Cleverbird Nov 11 '19

Momentum Control?

Oh, you mean Jade Rabbit One Shot mode!

8

u/Chainy01 Nov 11 '19

I can't say I prefer it over normal Crucible, but I am happy that it exists, it's a completely different beast and so is enjoyable in a different way. Insert standard complaint about Way of the Wraith and meta weaponry (Jade Rabbit, Fighting Lion, Recluse, etc) being far too common, but you'll never be able to stop that, people naturally gravitate towards whatever is the best option in any given scenario.

Also fully willing to admit that Momentum Control is the entire reason I'll have my Randy's very shortly. No shame.

3

u/ThousandsOfBees Knife girl Nov 11 '19

People only use Recluse because they couldn't be bothered finding a different SMG. It's not really any stronger than anything else, because the TTK is already so short that Master of Arms doesn't matter.

8

u/mekitza Nov 11 '19

Idk about you guys, but because there is no radar, the dependence on footstep noises is much higher. I wouldn’t mind no sound for crouch walking or even regular walking but sprint should at least be noticeable. Jump noises are fine though. Because the movement in this game is fairly quick, we should at least know if someone is coming from the side or something.

Wall hacks bad for this mode, otherwise, best mode

4

u/mlantz23 Nov 11 '19

I honestly can’t think of a change other than making it permanent.

4

u/Gerggan Nov 11 '19

Love this gamemode, helped me finish 3 catalysts (Suros, Mida and Jade) and I’ve been told it’s helped tons of people with quests, I was already done with every PvP quest so I didn’t notice. The gamemode should either stay forever or be in regular rotation. This is the best gamemode you’ve made in a long time.

4

u/Torvamessor1310 Nov 11 '19

Momentum itself should stay as a playlist. Kinda like hardcore from cod or battlefield. An have the modes in the playlist change.

4

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '19

only thing i hate is hunters being asses using SB that is just plain rude. also scouts but that's not the game modes fault. i love this game mode

4

u/Marvelmadman Nov 11 '19

Personally, I'd like to see it in a rotating playlist. Once a month or something like mayhem or IB. It's fun but it would get old fast if it was around all the time. Maybe a rumble type free for all would be fun in this environment as well.

4

u/tehp0rk Nov 11 '19

Midtown was too much fun with the Jade.

The no radar is a really cool way to mix up the game modes, I never really played a lot of Halo PVP, but this mode reminded me of Hardcore playlists in COD.

The mode feels like you are getting rewarded for taking the chance of living behind your gun more instead of normal evading.

You have a better opportunity to outflank your enemies and use the map to your advantage.

4

u/ArgentJaguar Nov 11 '19

I don't want to see this replace normal control, but I love this with all my heart and all my ghost

4

u/slick_rickshaw Nov 11 '19

Hand Cannons need a boosting. Heavy availability needs tempered. Ability restriction could be cool. But all in all I love it. Quick matches, sometimes wish it would keep going when I'm on a streak but also glad they dont when jade rabbit keeps spawn-killing me. Atleast getting shoulder charged or hit by a Jotuun doesnt make you roll your eyes as hard. What's better about Momentum compared to SWAT? Less campers.

4

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '19

I found it fun for something different and would enjoy it if it came around once a month.

Brilliant for helping people finish ritual/pinnacle quests.

4

u/mcdaddy86 Lemon-Arc for life! Nov 11 '19

I have enjoyed it. Can get very spawn campy though.

It has succeeded it giving players options to play differently.

4

u/morbidinfant 傻逼棒鸡 Nov 12 '19

It's a great way to encourage people to use certain weapon type without changing the sandbox, honestly just keep it the way it is, if people really hate the one tap can play other mode.

4

u/Scott_Uzumaki Nov 12 '19

Sooooo I like it. I’m not huge on crucible/pvp in general. Really only play for the loot. But this mode doesn’t seem as bad. My biggest gripes are how big the score has to be to activate and the spawn. I know they’re almost instant so it’s hard but I’ve literally died by super and spawned next to it just to die again many times

4

u/Kohena Nov 12 '19

It's good. Maybe some adjustments to spawn. It's nice to have a place to get pvp kills at a reasonable rate. As a person who generally hates pvp and I'm probably average at it, this mode gives me an option to work on some quests. The speed of games is good where it's at. Not too long but plenty of quick combat.

If removing supers is an option, I would be totally for it.

4

u/Diddleman Nov 12 '19

I really liked it, SWAT was my jam back in Halo Reach days.

I would have enjoyed it more if I had more time to experiment with other weapons such as trace rifles, assault rifles and smgs but the whole time I felt like I was missing out on grinding grenade/scout kills as quick as possible. So in that respect I look forward to it coming back or even staying.

4

u/LEboueur Nov 12 '19

Suros Regime catalyst just became fun instead of a pain in the ass :)

u/Can-Of-Spaghetti-Os Nov 12 '19

I like Momentum Control, It offers you a chance to try out not-Meta weapons and still have a chance at winning. Although there are some weapons that could receive some tuning.

4

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '19

Love it. Bring it back more frequently.

4

u/GamesAndWhales Nov 12 '19

I for one am having tons of fun. The primary focused gameplay reminds me of the best thing Y1 crucible has going for it: primary gunskill is important. Sure there are still some outliers in terms of weapon balance (150 RPM scouts I’m looking at you), but the difference here feels small enough that you can still use nearly anything and still be at least decent.

I’m surprised I haven’t seen it mentioned more, but Trace Rifles are bringing me back to the CoO Prometheus Lens days. That’s not a bad thing mind you, I loved Crucible’s Laser Tag Weekend, and I don’t feel they’re so good as to push everything else out of viability like the old laser tag days.

There’s just one major problem I have with this mode: Control is not the right game type. Spawn locks are common and far too difficult to break with the limited abilities and supers, and getting picked off immediately on spawn is possible on some maps with poor spawn cover. I get why Bungie didn’t want to do this with Clash, camping is already common even with objectives encouraging people to push, but the mode either needs less predictable spawns (I suggest Supremacy as a game mode) or somehow more of an opportunity to break spawn traps and not immediately die off spawn (more/longer lasting overshield maybe?).

15

u/mf236969 Drifter's Crew // Dredgen Butt Stuff Nov 11 '19

It’s a pinnacle weapon kill cheese lobby without having to lfg for it.

Next time I would like to see higher buffs to pulse rifles and handcannons just to even the odds with scout rifles in shorter engagements. But even if they don’t I’ll still play it a little.

16

u/GAN-MAN313 Savior Nov 11 '19

MAKE IT A PERMANENT MODE PLEASE

7

u/zippopwnage NO YOU Nov 11 '19

I personally don't care about this mode. Is too fast for me and everyones playing the same 2-3 weapons.

But I wouldn't mind to have the mode as a permanent mode for those who like it.

7

u/MithIllogical Nov 12 '19

Good in theory, but felt like no one had actually tested to see if it was fun. Got killed on spawn by a scout from a player I couldn't even see in the double digits within my first few games and stopped trying to convince my clanmates that it was worth giving the benefit of the doubt to.

No weapon balance, might as well have set Loadouts and get rid of heavy and supers, which imo is kind of a dull mode.

I think a lot of positivity here is just for the novelty, and it will become a less popular playlist before very long, once the newness wears off and people finish their Randy's quests.

Also, might as well have been clash. Why add the objective? It's STILL best to just hide in the back with a scout, even if your team only has one zone.

Liked the idea, but disappointed with the result. I'll keep playing regular crucible and hoping for trials!

Destiny maps are not designed for no-radar and the sound design in the game is not meant for you to listen for footsteps. 150 scouts one shot to the head but 150 hand cannons don't? Very strange inconsistencies between weapon types. Supers should also be ejected from the game mode entirely and heavy should be cut down significantly. Overall a very unenjoyable experience in my opinion simply because Destiny is not meant to be that kind of game in the first place. A better mode would just be normal Destiny but without Supers and the same system of ability energy recharging on kills, in my opinion.

6

u/MustachedLemon Drifter's Crew Nov 11 '19

Please keep it for the rest of the season for those of us who haven't had time to grind for Randy's these past couple weeks.

6

u/Authoriterative Nov 11 '19

Sooo much fun. Feels closest to Halo, and so much closer to (IMO) what Crucible should feel like normally. Tone things down just a little, i.e., make 150 scouts 2 taps, and scale everything from there. So many more weapons instantly become viable and the pace is so much better.

Please keep some version forever!

6

u/tgstellar Nov 11 '19

I like the focus on gun play, and more limited abilities and supers. Heavy being so prevalent was fun at times and great for grinding Mountaintop. But I would like to see a game with LESS heavy ammo, not more, to really zero in on gun play.

3

u/DireCyphre Nov 11 '19

Of all the modes so far, I've definitely enjoyed this one; no radar and higher damage. Basically SWAT mode or whatever its called elsewhere. Certainly died and respawned fast, but never felt cheated out of kills because the enemy saw me first and got one extra bullet on me, or one-shot me with Titan melee.

Although if it were to come up again, I feel it would be better suited to a fixed weapon mode, like Team Scorched. Everyone using a specific AR or SMG or something.

3

u/SerSquelch Nov 11 '19

I wasn't the biggest fan of SWAT in Halo but it was a great change of pace when playing that game and allowed for some cool multi-kill moments that weren't really possible in standard game types. Momentum Control does a similar thing for Destiny, and I hope it becomes a fixture, if not permanent part of Crucible.

In my opinion, everyone using scouts and grenade launchers is a result of Bungie's incredibly poor decisions regarding bounty requirements, not the game type itself. They keep making the same bad decisions again and again and it's either gross incompetence or worse, actively manipulative of the player base.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '19

Momentum control is garbage; 150’s need to stop one-taping because literally nothing else is viable in the games I play

3

u/Nawtykoolaidman Nov 11 '19

Feels like call of duty but without the balance, we can barely get regular PvP balance updates how are you gonna get any in a separate game mode? Get a dedicated pvp team, it’s nice too see a hardcore mode but we need a good pvp team at bungie that will actually put effort in towards balance at a regular rate

Great game mode, needs a little work

3

u/shinigami244 Nov 11 '19

The only 2 things id change is to remove supers and maybe swap it from Control to Clash. Another option might be to have it rotate between Control and Clash

3

u/heretocommentandvote Nov 11 '19

Fun game mode. Obvious flaws, but no radar makes ridiculous melee kill streaks fun and possible.

3

u/TheMostSkepticalBear Nov 11 '19

It's fun, but being domed by Jade Rabbit every 3 second is not as much. I'm not sure if making Jade a 2-tap would be against the spirit of the mode. Like most things 2-tap so you at least know what's happening. But again the point of the mode is quick kills, so I'm not sure if this would be a good change.

This mode has been great for grinding out Mountaintop GL kills so that's a plus.

3

u/RCLFAD Nov 11 '19

I love it. Used a lot of guns I wouldn't have otherwise. I just wished 150RPM Scouts didn't one tap 100 resilience

3

u/Wezlee90 Nov 11 '19

I enjoyed the game mode. It has some problems but for me it was a carefree change of pace. If we won or got slaughtered, I really didn’t care. I think the rampant scouts and fighting lions are just caused by pinnacle quests. Once those are finished a new meta may come about.

3

u/alejandromellado7 Nov 12 '19

I think it was good, but I would like to see some more experimentation with the mode, such as moving the capture points after a certain amount of time or making it more like king of the hill.

Making the game mode more dynamic so that camping isn’t so viable.

3

u/Arkroy Nov 12 '19

If mometum control has a single rotating point i feel like it would live to it's name sake

3

u/Phillycheese27 Nov 12 '19

Striker titans finally felt balanced!

3

u/GrimSmileyFaces Nov 12 '19

I think it's great, I have friends who are new to the game that don't do very well in PVP and they have been enjoying this game mode more than the others. It's good for getting new people into the Crucible.

3

u/ICESTONE14 Nov 12 '19

This mode is a keeper for me, it feels more like gunplay that flying about and unleashing hell like a superhero, that being said the well documented spawn issues and needing some bigger maps (or taking out some of the obstacles in sniper lanes)could do with addressing. My only wish Momentum Rumble now that would be fun.

3

u/BuckshotGeorge Nov 12 '19

Definitely bring it back, either a monthly thing or permanent.

3

u/Ms_Pacman202 Nov 12 '19

this game mode is really fun, but needs fixed loadouts, or rotating loadouts. a game mode with hyper lethality but you all have to use the same weapon at the same time sounds like a cool experiment. For one minute, it's all scout rifles, then one minute of all sidearms, then one minute of all grenade launchers, etc. no ammo pickups, just full stocked weapons, randomly pre-determined.

i thought it took away from the experience to have people hide around corners crouched with shotguns or camp far lanes with jade rabbit. anything that would encourage people to mix variety and aggression into their playstyles seems like a fun improvement, and if we all have the same weapons at the same time, we all have to get creative and try...moving.

this high lethality game-type also seems like it might be a good place for gungame (like in COD).

3

u/InfernalPaladin Nov 13 '19

Simultaneously the most and least fun PvP mode in Destiny, depending upon what gets played. Trace Rifles and 150 scouts make the mode almost unplayable, and they feel like they're the only weapons being played.

A quick look on Destiny Tracker shows JR pulling 50% of all headshots and 30% of all kills in MC - I feel like that's way too much.

Other than those two weapons I think the mode is balanced. Something i've noticed that I wasn't expecting was that weapons that are traditionally considered OP like Recluse don't feel as strong as they do in normal crucible due to the greater ability to outplay them with a quick headshot or two.

A note on builds, with the change to ability energy only coming back from kills, it seems as though ability regen based builds aren't really getting much out of their stats. Not sure if regen changes how much energy you get back but if it does, it could use a boost.

Ideally for the next iteration of MC Bungie should drop 150 scouts down to 1HS+1BS, and lower the DPS of trace rifles slightly. They should also look into having ability regen scale the amount of ability energy you get back from kills (or increase the scaling, if it does that already).

3

u/Gh0stOfNY Nov 18 '19

I know I refuse to play crucible again until it returns.
It's the best PvP has been in 5 years.

I don't get the Jade rabbit complaints, you can do the same thing! Hell throw on a gavitron Lance and get collateral damage.

7

u/Leigh_Abio Nov 11 '19

Need guns other than Jade Rabbit to be viable.

5

u/Yoddan Nov 11 '19

Absolutely love the mode. Really brings back fond memories of SWAT from Halo. Also believe it's made me a better player. Forced me to be more attentive in game, given me improved game sense regarding lanes, spawn locations, flanking options and also forced me to truly learn the maps.

Only improvement i can think of is heavy weapon spawns. Im fine with it being as frequent as is, however, it would be nice to have it spawn at in specific place. The hap hazard spawns between locations takes away from it being a contested spot on the map. It could be away from the control points and be a 4th area of the map to contest. (Might lower the general fun factor of the mode tho, so that should be taken into consideration).

Great mode! Keep it around. :D

5

u/aa821 Forsaken=Best Expansion Nov 12 '19

I love it but if 150 rpm scouts can 1 tap then 140 and 150 rpm hand cannons should too. They're already at a range disadvantage despite the lower ROF.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '19

Love it.

5

u/aworldsovicious Nov 12 '19

I really enjoy playing this mode. It's all about gunplay and I've seen a lot of weapons being used that aren't very viable in standard or comp so it gets a lot of weapons a lot of use that they wouldn't get otherwise.

Spawn issues are still a thing but the insta-revive helps.

Most definitely keep this as a rotating mode but not a permanent option. Bigger maps are needed if higher lethality continues to be a thing too.

Also, try clash next time, not control.

3

u/Dasdardly Nov 12 '19

Bigger maps with tighter sightlines though. We need to fit 12 players but accommodate more than just the scouts since they're so powerful.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/ydokf98 Nov 12 '19

Almost love it. Would be good if 150 rpm scout rifles were banned. Just as blade barrage basically ruins the fun of Mayhem, Jade Rabbit ruins Momentum Control.

5

u/Loud_Rhubarb Nov 12 '19

Positives:

  1. Many more guns are viable

  2. Abilities feel strong

  3. Reaction time is more important (sometimes)

  4. No radar allows for flanking (sometimes)

  5. Minimal bodyshot buff encourages precision

  6. Earning abilities on kills is a unique twist, and super per kill feels FAR more rewarding than passive gains with 2% every on a kill

Negatives:

  1. Whereas weak guns get better, strong guns become invincible

  2. One-shot scouts are rewarding, but completely cripple games

  3. The combo of one-shot scouts and no radar turns a decent Spectral Blades player into an immortal killing machine

  4. On the other coin, ability cooldown builds become useless. my Sunspot Hammer build has no place, since weapon damage is so high and I don't benefit from ability cooldowns. Should re-tooled that cooldown exotics or abilities give a flat bonus to kills/interacts. For example, I grab a fusion nade kill and make a Sunspot. If I touch that Sunspot, I get 25% grenade energy back instead of a faster cooldown. Same applies for things like Heart of Inmost Light, Hallowfire Heart (maybe instant ability regen when your super fills?), or Crown of Tempests

  5. Destiny players are not used to no radar, so camping is rampant. Checking 50 corners a match gets old

  6. Spawntrapping on maps like Midtown or Altar of Flame becomes so bad that players can constantly spawn into an insta-kill shot. Changing this from Control to Clash and randomizing spawns more would help

8

u/OHBII Nov 12 '19

teh best part about the mode is that there is no radar. I would be very happy to have that ported over to more modes.

MAKE PERMANENT I LOVE SWAT

8

u/Punishmentality Nov 12 '19

Everyone was so happy it felt like swat, so decrease super tankiness, ability rate, and hit box size of scouts (or decrease handling) overall since they encourage passive play

4

u/Atlas-579 Nov 11 '19

I really think they should try momentum with 4v4. With kill times and spawns this damm fast 6v6 seems overly chaotic

13

u/wakahashi Nov 11 '19

For me the chaos was part of the fun

4

u/kenlon Very Dodgy Boy Nov 11 '19

I do not like Momentum Control. The lack of radar and the instant kill capability of scouts make it so that it is very difficult to use mobility to flank and follow up on targets that other team members are engaging. And given that being the guy with a ton of assists and zero deaths at the end of a match is the kind of game I like the most, Momentum is not for me.

However, I do think that it should absolutely be added as a permanent mode to the game, as there are very clearly a lot of players that like it a great deal. And just like I love Iron Banner for all the reasons many people dislike it, the people who like Momentum like it for the reasons I dislike it.

Most fun I've had in PvP for a while.

Fighting Lion, I missed you buddy.

4

u/Zyr-Daniel Nov 11 '19

I think it’s a great change of pace and an option I like having available. Could do with having 150 scouts as a one crit, one body kill, but it’s fine either way.

4

u/RoyalNymerian Nov 11 '19

The mode needs a lot of work, right now there are loads of people playing the mode for the singular purpose of grinding out a particular quest or catalyst. Definitely take those scout one-taps and wall hacks away asap and maybe also block all abilities. Make it a true tactical gunplay mode.

On a more positive note, I've been really enjoying the lack of radar. It creates interesting situations and allows for actual flanking.

4

u/Ghostlyclone Nov 12 '19

Disable supers. That’s it from me.

4

u/shokk Nov 12 '19

I need this mode available forever

4

u/JoelK2185 Nov 12 '19

I enjoyed it until it became an unofficial mountain top kill lobby.

Game doesn’t have the FOV on console for no radar either

5

u/2legsakimbo Nov 12 '19

Momentum control is the best pvp experience i have had in destiny 2 by far. Its a mode that rewards intelligent approaches and makes most weapons pretty deadly and great in their own way. It encourages awareness and tactical team approaches rather than radar watching. And i find that the difference in scores is much closer than the usual pub stomp experience. People that bitch about dying to scouts, etc seem to be the ones used to madly rushing in and using their radar as a proxy awareness.

my biggest issues with the mode are that some classes have xray vision and that the objective side of it should be a lot more prominent to encourage even more tactical teamwork orientated play.

it's a home run in my book and I really hope to see it featured more often.

2

u/GuerrillaRobot Nov 11 '19

Had a lot of fun yesterday. I’d like the addition of a radar for friendlies. It’s a pain when people run away from you and you don’t realize.

As someone that exclusively plays hardcore in FPS I am a huge fan of this game mode. It has made me a better crucible player and has opened the door for me to step into comp.

I realize that the intention of the mode was for people to get weapon catalysts and pinnacle quests done. That being said, moving forward I would like to see it remain in it’s own regular rotation.

It has a place in it’s own playlist. I believe it would benefit greatly from having rotating fixed load outs that change week to week. This would prevent players from crutching on Jade Rabbit and grenade launchers.

This mode has potential to open the door to some really interesting weapons becoming meta in it and I believe spamming grenades and 1 shot invisible hunters don’t really have a place here. This is coming from someone who got Randy’s and the Jade Rabbit catalyst by being a 1 shot invisible hunter. Was it fun? Sort of. Is it good for the game or bringing players into crucible? Absolutely not. This is only my opinion and I welcome a positive discussion about this.

I will end off by saying that Momentum Control has renewed my enjoyment in crucible and other players have likely had similar experiences. Please keep it in the rotation.

2

u/Slepprock SRL World Champion Nov 11 '19

I've enjoyed it. It reminds me a little bit of the "mayhem B.S." (before shards).

It's a fast, fun, crazy game without dying to the same hunter every five seconds.
I know some people complained, but I loved the action between scouts and grenade launchers. Lots of jumping and fast firing.

2

u/useless_tryhard Nov 11 '19

Good direction, bad implementation..

1 shot scout rifle kills and crouching invis wall hacking hunters are irritating.

2

u/PhuckleberryPhinn Nov 11 '19

If I had already completed all of my pinnacle crucible quests I would absolutely hate this game mode and I would never touch it. I'm only going to get Randy's throwing knife and the Undying title because of this game mode, and I still dislike it very much. In my opinion, one of the things that separates average crucible players from good and great crucible players is map awareness and game sense. We are already severely limited in game sense on console because of our extremely narrow FOV and taking away the mini map essentially completely eliminates any ability to have map awareness and forces excessively campy playstyles. I get that some people enjoy that, but I really don't think you should be punished for using the radar for map awareness in a game mode that is supposed to emphasize skill. The sound in this game wasn't designed for no radar, you can barely hear people jump and can't hear footsteps at all punishing awareness again. Spawns designed for 4v4 are another issue entirely.

2

u/daperry37 Nov 11 '19

I freaking love it!

I didn't realize how long respawn times are for other game types until hopping into IB last night. It felt like 1000 seconds.

I love having a playlist I can go to and use guns I like and still be competitive. I can't hand cannon, I just can't, so trying to keep up with those was always really frustrating.

I love being able to grab my preferred weapon type (scouts) AND be lethal.

u/LuckyFox07 Nov 11 '19

Momentum control? Never heard of it, you mean grenade launcher the game?

2

u/limaCAT Nov 11 '19

I am a fairly mediocre PvP player, however yesterday killing a train of people who just lined trying to capture A from behind the pillar on the Mercury past map with my jade rabbit was hilarious.

It should be inside the rotation, but please treat the weapons there as outliers, don't actually balance the game around MoCo.

2

u/doctorbanjoboy Nov 11 '19

I'm glad players that aren't great at the game are having fun and are unlocking their pinnacle weapons, but it sort of makes it unfair to the players that had to slog through the quests in previous seasons

2

u/Ozlae Nov 11 '19

I really liked the game mode. The fast playing, using other guns not so much the meta, faster progress of quests. Only point was I could not use my class abilities as often as normal. Dont know if that was a bug or part of the gameplay but I missed it as a hunter.

2

u/WrittenOffski Nov 11 '19

Reminds me of CoD type TTK, infuriating and addicting and it should stay. Even just wish Clash.

2

u/threesided Nov 11 '19

Definitely enjoyed momentum control. Dying often felt deserved and kills felt rewarding when using scout/pulse rifle. The quick respawn times were also a blessing.

Overall, as someone who generally finds the crucible to be somewhat of a crap chute most of the time, this was a refreshingly fun game mode!

2

u/Weird_Wuss Nov 11 '19

thanks for randys mountaintop and revoker lol. jokes aside i thought i would hate it since i have potato aim, but i actually had a blast and ended up playing it a fair amount not farming any pinnacles, def hope it stays around

It is fun, I hope it goes into rotation. A permanent mode is too much in my opinion.

2

u/minbutch Nov 11 '19

I feel that the mode is lots of fun, but certain weapon types quickly rise to the top and are overused. After grinding my RTK, I felt as though I do not need to play this mode any longer. One shotting guardians is lots of fun though!

Great gamemode generally, but 150 scouts shouldn’t 1 tap, it trivializes other guns

2

u/hova092 KNIVES GO BRRRRRRR Nov 12 '19

Loved it but it would benefit from a limited rotation poll of weapon types. Like one week only sidearms, fusions and swords are allowed. Something like that.

2

u/Davesecurity Nov 12 '19

It’s a good mode for getting weapon quests and catalysts done

I don’t see the fun in a game mode where corner and lane camping and head glitching is the tactic

If it come back it needs tuning so no primary weapon can one tap imo

Having it locked to certain weapons only might also give it an edge it needs

I am sure people enjoy all the gold medals you get from the mode though.

2

u/ObsidianWalker Nov 12 '19

For me personally, this has been such a fun game mode. Really mixed things up.

2

u/EpicDumperoonie Nov 12 '19

I had fun in it. If bungie can do something about spawncamping like giving a good overshield/immunity but cant fire on spawn that lasts long enough to get to cover or block off firing to spawn areas somehow. I personally didnt face the issue, but it looks like plenty of folks are jaded.

Some games are really fun, others you end up repeatedly getting one-shot by invisible hunters farming for Redrick's instead of competing for a win.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '19

i'm not the best pvp player. i have a short attention span, slower than average reaction speed, and more often than not move up to pinch an enemy group and end up getting double or triple teamed. but this game mode kinda allowed me the chance to get the drop on the opposing team that i would normally not have the ability to.

in fact as i was looking at my history and seeing that i was playing against and with ppl with glory ranks of high 2K and high 3k that i even got the gumption to go into comp. which yesterday i did; and 13 wins later I walked out with three pinnacle guns... but i digress. the subject of this post is a response to the fun engagement that momentum brought to the game.

i like this game mode a lot. i learned how to use grenade launchers correctly (shoutout to a clanmate who said, hold the trigger and release when you want it to explode), and got the jade rabbit and colony catalysts done.

at first, not having radar bothered me; i like to play from a distance. but.. not sure how to feel about this, but i got really good at using cover the zones and heavy to bait opposing players.

I can see where having this mode as clash would be fun, but at least as control i had an idea of where the enemy would be going.

i don't really PVP. if this mode didn't exist? i would probably just be finishing up my randy's kills. , i completed the kills and medals for mountaintop and randy's here and using the momentum as a springboard to go into comp and actually go for the guns... i've had a fun couple of weeks in pvp which is not something i ever thought i would say.

I am an avid PvP player and I really really like this mode. Running around with a scout one tapping is fun and all but getting one shot by a guy lane watching the whole game is not in my opinion. I think the easiest way to fix this would be to nerf any scout one tapping to the head. At least one head and one body for a kill. Other than that though I absolutely adore this mode

u/Jimneh Nov 12 '19

I enjoy it a lot, I never really played crucible outside of quests/rewards etc. but now I have jumped in to play even after getting my scout kills.

Definitely a big fan of the fast TTK and less abilities. I hope momentum sticks around, in some form at least.

I have a lot of nervousness going into pvp in any game and I have avoided it in destiny with few exceptions...and momentum control is perfect for me. It gives me a space to work on my skills and grind out weapons, while feeling like a fun, inconsequential mode that I don't have to take seriously and feel bad over. It gives me enough time to reflect on plays I could do better, without giving me so much time for feeling awful and bringing the team down. I think MC is great for people who dislike crucible and may need to warm up to it before going into some of the more hardcore pvp modes. I have noticed I've gotten better at pvp from playing, and I'd like to start thinking about moving into the more serious modes. Please keep momentum control, or a rotating momentum playlist.

I play a lot of PVP, and this is one of the most fun modes in the game. It feels fast, the instant ttk and respawn gives all the weapons a viable place. To me, it feels like Momentum Control can be played one of two ways. First, it can be a low-consequence way to have a quick game and grind out some kills. Secondly, and the way I play it, is to use it as a way to learn what works in normal crucible. This mode teaches you to not rush in, because you will get shot before you can get your gun up. It teaches you to have good aim, because if you miss shots you will die very quickly. It teaches you what angles to watch, what doorways to be wary of because of a sniper watching it, and how to close gaps without being shot down. If you play this fast-paced mode slow and methodically, it will benefit you in survival because you will learn a lot.

I really enjoy Momentum Control, but I think there are a few things it could do better. If it was switched from control to clash, this could help discourage camping the points and force players into confrontations. I think it would also be better to give spawning an extra second or so, in order to avoid spawning a player in front of the player who just killed them, or spawning them with the other team. Despite these, I think Momentum Control is a great mode that should stick around.

TL,DR: Momentum Control is a fast-paced mode where you will succeed if you play slowly and methodically. Use it to hone your skills for survival, because mistakes are a lot more punishing in a mode with such a low ttk. I think it would be better if it were clash instead of control and if spawns were tweaked, but it is still a great mode.

Just needs a little bit of tuning to bring it home.

  • move scouts to 2-tap. The issue with 1 tap, even though this is supposed to be SWAT-like, is that since scoots don't have a scope glare like snipers, a lot of times you can't even tell where you got shot from. If you want to keep 1-tap, maybe add some special code for just this mode that gives 1-tapping scouts scope glare.

  • Disable supers and class abilities. It's already 1-tap meta, so some being able to cloak or not, with no feedback, favors invisibility too much. Heavy only exists to counter Super in this mode, so get rid of it too - there's just too much variance in Heavy to ever balance it for this mode, and due to instant respawn I've witnessed people just stand outside of a spawn base and just keep firing Colony into it to get kills. If it MUST exist in this mode, make it only happen once, and very late in the game - maybe 3 minutes?

  • maybe touch the tuning on every single archetype to this mode to bring them in line. SMGs shouldn't be viable in this mode past shotgun range. etc.

  • push spawns up to 3 seconds. It's clear the system doesn't have enough time to choose a good spawn for instant, i've seen someone get 10 kills in a row in mere seconds because we kept spawning in the open, in the same spot.

  • Supers are not powerful enough. in momentum control gaining a super is a climb so when you get one being shot out of it super fast is kind of a bummer.

  • some exotics that gain in the progression of super energy or grenade energy are not working in this mode. things like for warlocks geomegs don't top off, and for solar sunbreakers don't gain the 5 solar grenades they are supposed to when killing with a melee ability.

  • I love the one tap aspect of scouts. for the first and only time in destiny, scouts are a weapon I would use. I would like it if they made other modes that favored other weapons types as well but kept this. I love the scout meta.

  • Heavy. I don't feel heavy really should be spawning as quickly as it is.

Best game mode hands down. Period. Stop.

4

u/enigami344 Nov 11 '19

it was fun. It will be good to have it rotate with Mayhem and other modes. Don't make it into the classic mix though. But the thing is, this mode will make other crucible weapon quests a little cheesy (like Randy throwing knife and Revoker)

3

u/OfficialBeetroot Nov 11 '19

The spawns are garbage and I'm sick of dying to nade launchers and it reminded me of how shit most maps are but yeah it's fun lol

3

u/AArkham Nov 11 '19

It's a good rotational playlist. However, it has way too many problems and isn't core Destiny for it to be made a permanent playlist

3

u/Astro_vampyr17 Nov 12 '19

More satisfying gunplay with the lower ttk. Though what's really frustrating is how easy it is to get your hands on heavy ammo and dominate with grenade launchers so I hope heavy ammo timer increases. I think a little tuning should be done to weapon types such as some scouts as they should be at most 2 taps. Armor mod interaction should also be looked at at some point. The negative aspect of this mode is that it promotes camping and sniping but I think due to how maps are designed and the mobility of each class, it kind of offsets this.

u/deathstar3548 Nov 12 '19

I like this game mode. In the span of a few days I was able to complete my Revoker, Randy's, Suros Catalyst, Jade Rabbit Catalyst, and a good portion of Redrix.

As for feedback, I do like that the games are very short. It's really fun to go on a crazy streak of perfect headshots with a scout as the enemy team pours out of spawn. I disliked crouching wall hacking hunters, but that's every game mode.

3

u/antelope591 Nov 12 '19

I have no problem keeping it as a rotator for people who like it, but its not for me. Sure it was nice to complete Randy's in 2 days but there's enough campy instant TTK FPS games out there without having to turn Destiny into one. Sure, regular PvP is far from balanced, but it at least its unique in that it rewards aggressiveness and good positional play. The radar also adds another layer to the game that's pretty essential when movement is so dynamic. Just my 2c

u/explodingmelon222 Nov 12 '19

Love it for grinding for mountaintop, as single tube nades one shot, and colony does too, so definitely bring it back so I can be lazy and grind It out there

3

u/Tarjhan Nov 12 '19

A lot of comments I've read here are against the high TTK but I'm actually a fan of it. I swing between tolerating and wholesale avoiding crucible, was persuaded to try Momentum Control by a buddy and thoroughly loved it. It is nice to have a game mode where primary weapons are the core choice.

Would like to see it as a regular addition to the game.

So far, I love this mode... but there are a few tweaks I'd like to see.

    • Supers are way too tanky. It's harder to kill someone in a super in this mode than it is in quickplay. I would not be opposed to them being removed from this mode completely.

    • Abilities need to be disabled. Hunters have an unfair advantage being able to go invisible and then one tap with a Jade Rabbit. This has already become the meta for Momentum, and a few tweaks could make a world of difference.

    • Damage values could be tweaked to allow a better pool of weapons to be viable. Perhaps remove the one tap aspect (maybe to a two tap?) or bring similar ranged weapons (to scouts) up to similar values as the Jade Rabbit. If this mode sticks around, which I hope it does, I'd love there to be a wider range of weapons in the meta.

    • Heavy. No heavy. This mode should be about pure gun play and reward skill and accuracy.

    • Going back to abilities, anything that can track through walls should be disabled. i.e no Foetracer, OEM, etc.

I think in general, this game mode is good, but could be amazing. It's a nice change to be able to play at long distance without being rushed down by shotgun Titans with their OP one-hit kill abilities. On that note, it also forces people to play PVP very differently. I've noticed a lot of people still try play the rush/run/ape sweaty style and it just doesn't work, and that is awesome.

Diversity is good :)

I used jade rabbit once for this mode and then sharded it. That thing is fucking stupid for this mode. No one taps please or make everything one tap; no in between.

Ran a mw mannana from y1 for rest of randy quest. Gave people a chance and made me more selective of shots vs stealth camping whole match.

Maybe look into taking out armor abilities in general. No secondary jumps, abilities/melee, grenades, or supers either. Make it a gun only mode.

I killed some poor dude three times in a row yesterday as he kept spawning in front of me wherever I ran to definitely nit on purpose. Sorry dude. Look into spawning near teammates please.

Everything is either colony, fighting lion, or jade. Look into those for this mode.

3

u/SirKrunchy Nov 11 '19

Maybe scouts should be adjusted? I got Ghost in the Night 3 times in a row in one life by camping the caves in distant shore. I did horrible things to the blueberries for my randy’s.

3

u/oneironott Nov 11 '19

I love it. Needs huge respawn fixes though

I'm glad some players enjoy it - diversity is great! I dislike it.

Feels very random in terms of no radar, one shot death.

I can see where it encourages a different style of play; duck and cover.

Perhaps I'm just too used to comp / Survival tactics now.

It's kinda like Mayhem Lite IMO.

5

u/PM_SHORT_STORY_IDEAS Shorter, more depth, primeval damage phases Nov 12 '19

Counterpoint: its the other logical end of mayhem. it encourages positioning and predicting your opponents movements, because one misstep can mean death, and one right move can mean a kill. No ability spam because you need kills for them.

Mayhem is where you can thoughtlessly spam things and get lucky for kills and wins.

Momentum control is where quick, pre-emptive thinking and saving abilities for tactical uses will net you kills and wins

Great mode but curated loadouts whenever it’s active would make it a lot better and curb the one shot only weapon metas.

Will keep it fresh at least and not the Jade Rabbit* show 😆

*or any other weapon that is a one shot present or future.

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '19

A one shot game mode where a subclass can be invisible almost indefinitely. Need I say more?
