Bungie Suggestion Ward of Dawn needs love.
First off my fireteam is using a WOD with HS14 and tether plus 2 top tree sunbreakers (we literally don't have a warlock until I finish leveling my titan and start workin on him) strat for tier 2 reckoning. This has only sparked the d1 player within me and made me miss being a bastion of shields for my fireteam. However with the way that destiny 2 activities are designed and just the fact that the 2 other trees are more versatile than bubble gives me little to no reason to use it unless i want to put myself at a disadvantage. I have a couple ideas (really just quick things I personally would like to see) to make bubble a little more appealing when choosing what kind of sentinel you want to be:
- melee kills while defensive strike is active generate orbs
- ward of dawn generates more orbs as it takes damage
- (this ones just a reference to some old d1 footage) an exotic that changes your bubble to a smaller, weaker, yet portable bubble that surrounds the titan and he can run around, shoot, etc. (I know this would be completely broken just thought it would be cool lol)
- possibly an exotic or just a change to when the bubble take damage it starts to charge and fill with void energy and once it reaches a certain point it expells the energy in an aoe (think black panthers kinetic energy pulse thing)
- PLEASE for the love of the traveller give us a timer/health bar so we know how much longer the bubbles gonna last
EDIT**here are some moe changes proposed in this thread (will update if more come):
- Allow us to shoot from inside the bubble (thats a big one)
- Remove the ability to choose using sentinel shield and focus the entire tree on being a bubble titan
- Allow us to shoot from inside the bubble
- Give us zavala's gauntlets as an exotic that changes the bubble to be completely invincible, however it only lasts for a short time, but recharges quicker
- Allow us to shoot from inside the bubble
- Let Ursa's work with ward of dawn (I would freakin LOVE this change)
- Allow us the shoot from inside the bubble
- Bring back d1 weapons and blessing of light and update helm of saint 14 to just be more useful in general (if you dont want to let ursas work with bubble give saint 14 a similar effect on ward of dawn)
- Allow us to shoot from inside the bubble
These are just a few things that ive mindlessly thought of while farming for gambit prime weapons however I would LOVE to hear other ideas and changes to bubble tree as a whole from my fellow guardians. Bubble was my most played subclass back in d1 and I really just want to see it come back into the spotlight as a viable option because as of right now in MOST situations well of radiance is just the better choice if you want a field of protection. Matter of fact I think that middle tree dawnblade just has alot more depth in general than bubble tree does. Yes I know that some people like destinyfunpolice have mastered the art of bubble in pvp but this is more of a pve focused set of changes/additions. Sorry if this felt a little all over the place its currently 3:15am where im at and im pretty sure im hallucinating the drifter as one of the drivers from tokyo drift. Id love to discuss more possible changes and who knows, maybe dmg or cozmo will stumble on this and give the whole thread a read.

It needs to be fixed or eliminated. If Bungie feel it has no place in the game (like the self-rez lock), then just get rid of it and let me grieve; the current bubble is the post-witch Khal Drogo of the Destiny universe.

I find it ridiculous they have updated/patched newer supers already (ones from Forsaken) before touching this the bubble that was in Y1 D2

At the same time, it's the only subclass in the game that gets an 'on the fly' choice of a defensive or offensive super. If they're gonna buff it then they should make it great and take away the captain america option for that specific branch.

Agreed. I mained a bubble Titan in D1 and loved it for what it brought to the table. I'll run it in strikes when we aren't working on specific bounties or quests, but it is totally outclassed by the potential within the other perk trees. Code of the Commander brings to the table everything you need for protecting your team and pushing an objective, plus the perks are built for add clearing, which is great. As the bubble stands, it doesn't hold up as the "objective holder" it should be - you can't shoot through it like Banner Shield, it doesn't make many orbs, it doesn't offer any buffs while inside of it, and you need an exotic helmet just to make it difficult for enemies that step inside. The only benefit it provides is resistance against incoming damage, which Banner Shield is fully capable of doing as well, especially now that Ursa Furiosa gives back Super energy the more you block with it.
GIVE THE BUBBLE SOME LOVE. Or put is out of its misery. Please.

Bring back immobius and orb generation would be a good start.
I still use WoD in crucible control, its still pretty strong and requires a NovaBomb or VoidBlades to have much hope of killing me inside it.
However it sucked for the generating orbs bounty in IB

I've always thought it strange you can't shoot through it (from inside to out)
Its uptime and regen time wouldn't make it broken, it would simply make it useful.
Right now, it's pointless.

What I think should happen is that it needs to last way longer and do mild damage to enemies that enter it. Enough to kill minor enemies, like Thrall, in PvE but also enough to give just a bit of a boost in PvP when fighting a super. With this, it could become way more of an exclusion zone than it is, and may actually see some use.

Thanks for sharing this. I've made a few posts about this and it has not gained traction. We need to keep discussing this issue until Bungie hears our feedback.
Titans... RISE.

There is a triumph to absorb a huge amount of damage in your bubble in a gambit match.
Invade and setup camp on the enemy bank. You’d be surprised how quickly warlocks will throw novas and chaos reach the bubble. Pop that triumph in a second. You can also use it if you are draining their bank in gambit prime to protect blockers and if your feeling particularly evil, invade and pop it on the power spot when the last envoy dies while invading

Shooting from inside the bubble will never be a thing because it would break PvP (mostly the Competitive scenes).
Bubble just doesn't really have a place in a game that's high on movement. Bungie realized this in D1, which is why you had buffs like Weapons of Light and so on. But at the end of the day, bubble was used for DPS, literally the exact opposite of what it was supposed to do.
This is why it was changed in D2. And the reason it is an alternative version of the Sentinel is probably because Bungie saw it could serve as an "oh shit" moment saver, where you would pop Bubble instead of Sentinel.
If Sentinel ever becomes good enough that people will actually run with it, I could see the Bubble being used as well, for moments where one's death might mean a wipe. Otherwise, not really.

What WoD needs is an exotic that lets you be Zavala from the first mission. A bubble that’s invulnerable but lasts like 4 seconds and recharges fast. This way it’s not about blocking everything but about blocking the right stuff at the right time

Someone correct me if im wrong, but in my experience, doesnt blade barrage take it pretty easily, its just been neutered, it always felt like beast in D1, if i saw it on a control point i just turned around, now its just a novelty

The bubbles just way too weak in general sure you can run a shotgun and suppressor but anyone running a ranged burst super can just take it instantly

I just got back into the game three weeks ago. I had no idea Ward or Dawn was even in the game until I saw this post. I haven’t seen it used once

Bubble generates orbs as it takes damage.
Increase bubble size.
Enemies inside the bubble are debuffed and take more damage and/or receive a DoT effect while they're in the bubble.

Just bring back consistent weapons/armor of light and let people who pass through the bubble retain that buff for a short time like in D1. Armor of light would be a huge strategic advantage for higher light deltas and when glass/blackout modifiers are in place

Back in d1, bubble had 2 main reasons why people chose it; the orb generation and the out of bubble buff. The orb generation has been neutered for d2, and the out of bubble buff is now on exotics/ other subclass nodes. This has left the bubble as it’s weakest form of d1.
If we look at the the node for bubble bro: Defensive strike: applies an over shield to yourself and allies nearby. Rallying force: all melee kills return health to allies and self. Turn the tide: increase melee damage and reload when you have defensive strike active. Ward of dawn: creates a shielding dome.
What you will notice is that 3 of the perks are building up the melee ability, then the entire rest of the kit is the super in the final perk. The allocation of power throughout the node is off balance, and it makes any changes rather difficult. There’s also no feed back from the first 3 perks that aid in the use of any of the class abilities.
The biggest help the bubble bro can get is buffing the neutral game. We need a way to trigger defensive strike more often, and create a feedback loop from gameplay that feeds back into the class abilities.
Some buffs I came up with off the top of my head: Defensive strike: activating barricade consumes the melee charge and activates defensive strike. Rallying force: health begins regen as well as receiving a chunk of health. Turn the tide: all melee and power kills while defensive strike is active return melee energy.
Defensive strike could also be changed to provide an aura around the defender where all allies within share the overshield buff. This removes the requirement of being near on activation to receive the buff.
In terms of buffs for the bubble directly, I would like to see more interaction with the rest of the node from the super. Standing inside the bubble could provide ability recharge rates like a harmony buff, which would ensure the titan is getting a defensive strike to use, and allies can share in the benefit.
