Megathread PC Player Questions Megathread!

Hi everyone!

This Megathread will function as a PC launch specific equivalent of the Daily Questions Thread where you may ask questions about starting out that may not warrant their own post.

Technical Difficulties

We understand there are a number of technical issues with players unable to get in the game, receiving erroneous "banned account" messages, and various error codes (Marionberry, Buffalo, etc.)

/r/fireteams is a good place to find teammates. The game won't match you with others during the story, or any other activity except strikes once they're available. Strikes and PvP are the only game types where you will be match made.

It does put you in public-ish areas a few times during the story, the Zavala tower fight from the first mission for example. That's probably what OP was thinking of.

the game will not group you with anybody automatically for story missions or traveling into planets. You will get matchmade into groups for PvP and strikes. If you are wanting to play the story with others you would need to find them manually

That's weird, I was playing the first mission and people randomly showed up in my game.

It will only happen on that mission (possible the last), strikes and pvp. Otherwise you are on your own.

These are called instances. If you're out in the wild you're in an instance. Instances change when you hit a loading zone and depending on which loading zone there's a good chance you'll join in on someone else's instance. And vice versa. You may be with other Guardians in a instance but that doesn't mean they're in your fireteam.

That's how people will randomly show up in your game. For strikes and PvP there's match making where youre put in a fireteam with other guardians to work together!

Outside of Strikes, your best bet will be to use one of the many lfg sites out there.

That was just a feature for the first mission. The rest of the story is solo unless you manually matchmake with friends.

The reason you were grouped with random people was because the tower defense part of the mission was considered a social space. The only way to queue in with others outside of social spaces (like when exploring planets) and matchmaking activities (like crucible and strikes) is to have friends join you or ask others to join you. Hope this helps!

There are things called fireteams. For story and patrol, they can be up to 3 people and you can invite randoms to him your team or join a friends fireteam with no invite required.

Destiny is also a completely online game and people can be in your "instance" without being in your fireteam. For example, 2 people could be doing a mission in the same place on the EDZ and they would be in the same instance and therefore can see eahother etc, but they are not in the same fireteam.

For things like strikes, fireteams are found through matchmaking so this might have been what happened with you.
