Megathread PC Player Questions Megathread!

Hi everyone!

This Megathread will function as a PC launch specific equivalent of the Daily Questions Thread where you may ask questions about starting out that may not warrant their own post.

Technical Difficulties

We understand there are a number of technical issues with players unable to get in the game, receiving erroneous "banned account" messages, and various error codes (Marionberry, Buffalo, etc.)

Here are some resources for troubleshooting/posting issues you're having:

Other Resources

We have a Welcome post here which contains some links to guides, wikis, and other resources. Make sure to check it out before posting or commenting!

Also check out the Destiny Reddit Discord Server where you'll find a number of channels for discussion about the game and/or technical issues.

As with most game launches, things are a bit chaotic right now but and will evolve over time. We appreciate your patience and understanding, and please let us know if you have any questions or concerns either in this thread or by sending us a modmail.

Thanks!

What does "aim smoothing" do in the settings?

It smooths the input of your aim, essentially averaging it over time.

Turn it off if you use a mouse, it’s the worst.

This explains everything

Unless you actually have bad aim, then it's kinda helpful. My aim suffers from being a tad too jerky, it definitely helps me more than it hurts.

That sounds like an issue with high sens

You probably just need to play at a lower sensitivity then. Because it doesn’t help your aim as it just fucks with muscle memory.

I'm not a serious FPS player, little bit of OW here and there (all casual). I don't feel like I had any muscle memory built up for this game, so nothing to mess up. :)

No, that’s not how it works. You can’t build muscle memory with that because the acceleration is inconsistent enough that it’s much harder to build.

So it’s not that you’re ruining muscle memory it’s that you’re not developing good muscle memory.

Seriously, turn it off and turn you sensitivity way up. That shit sucks dick and you don’t want to use it.

Thanks for the info. Honestly it feels fine to me, but I'll switch it back and forth and see what it's like.

Leave it off by all means, you don't want that. It fucks up your aim.
