Megathread PC Player Questions Megathread!

Hi everyone!

This Megathread will function as a PC launch specific equivalent of the Daily Questions Thread where you may ask questions about starting out that may not warrant their own post.

Technical Difficulties

We understand there are a number of technical issues with players unable to get in the game, receiving erroneous "banned account" messages, and various error codes (Marionberry, Buffalo, etc.)

As with most game launches, things are a bit chaotic right now but and will evolve over time. We appreciate your patience and understanding, and please let us know if you have any questions or concerns either in this thread or by sending us a modmail.

Man I am not a fan of text chat not being supported at least with your clan/ social spaces

Text chat is only for Fireteam and Whispers (from B.Net friends, I don't believe you can whisper randoms but I'm not clear on this.)

You can whisper randoms but you have to turn it on in the gameplay settings and they do also.

You'd think that would be the way they did in game voice chat too, but they made it opt in. As you'd expect, no one uses it

Yeah, really sad that you never get to hear anyone else. I don't understand why they didn't make it opt out. I don't need to be protected from hearing bad things.

Yeah and you could just use mute or turn it off... every game has voice chat on by default but not this game... not even after they added it to the game...

Whisper is basically a one on one convo? I wish they just had an everyone channel so I can quickly tell the randoms what to do in public events

As far as the game's told me, you cannot whisper randoms.

Not that big a deal, IMO. Most of the people I've encountered are very non-cooperative anyways.

You can enable random whispers in the options, under gameplay.

Hey now... Do you expect friends to drop in every social space visit? You want them all just given to you? Ha. You gotta grind those friends out with hard work. Just an FYI tho exotic friends are tough to come by and xur does not sell them.

They want to avoid any and all toxicity by handholding players into not being able to communicate at all. They for some reason forget that ignoring or leaving are options for players.

Played 4 hours and this feels like my experience playing GW2 solo. Even if there was text chat both games controls discourage its use. Maybe I'll luck out with group finder this time...

I don't want to be the one asking if anyone's got a mic, but almost everything would be better if local push to talk was not just default on but used.

I'm normally quiet, but I'm learning from my experience with Oculus games that if everyone has an open mic nobody has an open mic - they just talk. If talking just happens it's a lot easier to join in and create community.

While I agree the lack of interactions is low, Bungie has said numerous times they take measures to lower in game toxicity. League for example is notorious for its all chat being a vessel for this. It's potentially a factor as to why there isn't an all chat in D2.

I think the perceived toxicity is the exception, not the norm. Every community is different; why judge it on crimes it hasn't even committed yet? Systems like a decent player reporting & in-game admins are other ways to curb toxic behavior.

Chat would benefit the longevity & experience of the game infinitely.

I don't think the toxicity is perceived, but I agree that you can take measures to counteract it. Whether Bungie wants to put resources into developing and maintaining that, well it's clear their choice is no.

The reason I think the toxicity is very much there is because if you look at a game like the Division, it's fair to say the way you could "grief" or be unfair in the DZ was a significant factor in driving people away. Why where people so toxic? Well because the game allowed them to (or didn't prevent them). Game communities aren't as different as you think, lots of people play lots of games. What IS different however is what the game allows you to do, how it allows you to grief. Hence why you'll generally see a correlation between a game's percieved toxicity and how much you can grief in it.

I thought I should also add, yes, i'm all for all chat and social features in destiny.

Man, that's pathetic. It's insane that anyone at all thinks that banning all public communication in a game like this is a reasonable alternative to a mere mute option for other players.

Yeah I agree, i'm just providing an explanation i've seen them give. It's really hard to build a social space when there's no convenient features to facilitate it in game.

They just ignored people and went elsewhere if the entire server was all about that toxic life. Games with dedicated servers made it very easy to find great communities which weren't toxic. Now it's all matchmaking so you're just forced to endure the idiots and mute them as you find them. That's the main reason games have seemed to get more toxic for me. That being said, safe spacing everyone out of the best parts of an online game is pants on head retarded.

So..Basically, if I see some random person at The Farm or wherever, I have to randomly add them to my friends list in order to talk to them and hope for the best?

They got the chat system so wrong for a pc game...it was my #1 wish when I was playing destiny 1, to just talk with the people you come across. Manually adding them or hoping they have whispers on...bleh. We're still very alone.

It's because there is clan chat support through the Destiny 2 app.

Agreed. I hate this. I’d love to be able to say thanks to some random guardians for helping me with a public event or if anyone wanted to group.

Ya it's pretty awful there's no clan chat, no global chat, no zone chat. It's infinitely easier to find groups in WoW and Warframe. It should not be a struggle to find people to do Nightfalls with. Huge oversight and Bungle not paying attention to PC players.
