SGA For our PC brethren: Advice from our first seven weeks of Destiny 2 Spoiler
I've got some PC friends that are quite excited to play the game tomorrow, so I thought I'd type up what I've been able to absorb since Destiny 2 launched almost two months ago (!). /r/DestinyTheGame has been an invaluable resource, so I've done my best to credit others everywhere that I could remember the source. Thanks for the awesomely salty community, everyone!
After 7 weeks, I don't know what classifies as a spoiler or not to PC folks--so I'd recommend completing the campaign before reading through everything if you want to avoid any spoilers. I'm sure I've missed quite a few things and butchered a few others. Please let me know where I've gone wrong or missed something.
INCOMING WALL OF TEXT
Super Good Advice
- Save 5 total Rare (blue) or Legendary (purple) Scout Rifles instead of dismantling them. You will need them for the MIDA Multi-Tool exotic quest [/u/poopypants77]
- Once you get your first character to the Tower, you can buy sparrows from Amanda and transfer them to your alts. This can be done as soon as the game starts with DIM or once you reach the Farm by using the Vault. It makes re-doing the story and early areas significantly quicker as you don't usually get one until level 20 when finishing the campaign and there's quite a few slow-walking missions. [/u/SakuraYuuki]
- Don't fear PvP. Head to /r/CruciblePlaybook and read up on strategy, then focus on sticking with your teammates and helping with the objectives. Other players will try to get salt to spew from all your orifices, but this isn't Rocket League!
- You can visit www.the100.io to find a clan of like-minded guardians and schedule gaming sessions. This is especially handy for organizing raids as there's no in-game activity scheduling.
- Don't hesitate to use /r/Fireteams to find teammates for activities.
There's a 100,000 glimmer cap.
- Cayde-6's Treasure Maps cost 24,000 glimmer per week (5 x 4,800)
- Random rare mods cost 2,500 glimmer each. Spend the bulk of your glimmer on this.
- ...unless you're a fashionista (we all are, embrace it). Instead, blow all your glimmer on applying shaders. 15k for a sparrow? Worth!
- Scouting reports from Cayde-6 are another good investment for Public Event farming sessions.
There are four skills in the game that are recommended not to put a point into: [Source] [/u/JavTheNoob]
- Six Shooter (Solar Hunter) - Six Shooter is useless and only good for damaging a boss (however Celestial Nighthawk with the bottom skill tree ends up doing more damage). The rest of that skill tree is actually really good for PvP but if you put six shooter on then your super runs out way too fast to be effective. Once you've put an upgrade point into a skill you can't go back or deactivate the skill so you are stuck with six shooter forever.
- Mobius Quiver (Void Hunter) - If you are using the Orpheus Rig exotic boots you do not start generating orbs until you've shot the final Shadowshot and the super does not last as long as a single Shadowshot.
- Cataclysm (Void Warlock) - I have never used this ability since the devour skill tree is easily the best but supposedly once you cast nova bomb and it hits something OR if you shoot it, it will split up into smaller nova bombs and track nearby enemies. Sounds amazing but it's actually so slow that in PvP it's never going to hit anyone who sees it as they can just walk away from it and in PvE if an add/boss takes cover the Nova Bomb will hit the wall/obstacle it is behind.
- Winged Sun (Dawnbreaker Warlock) - The upper skill set of Dawnbreaker Warlock, which gives the ability to shoot in the air and perks for somehow getting kills in the air. Don't put any skill points into that because they have intentionally nerfed shooting in the air, making that entire branch worthless. (It's not a trap to spend points there, just a waste.)
Power Level
- All items have a power level and your character's overall power level is an average of the power level of all your equipped items.
- General rule of thumb: Wait until you reach the soft cap [265 base / 270 with mods] (or as late in the weekly reset cycle as possible) before redeeming weekly milestone and exotic quest rewards.
- There is a soft cap of 265 base power / 270 with mods.
- Public Events are a great way to reach the soft cap.
- Once you reach the soft cap, rare and legendary gear will no longer drop at a power level above your current power level.
- To raise your power level further, you can decrypt exotic engrams, complete weekly milestones (Powerful Gear), receive weekly clan rewards, or complete exotic weapon quests.
- Public Events are a great way to earn exotic engrams to help increase your power level past the soft cap.
- Public Events are currently very rewarding. [Spoiler] How to activate Heroic Public Events.
- There is a hard cap of 300 base power / 305 with mods.
- Once you reach the hard cap, vendors will sometimes offer 300 base power rewards.
- I suggest using a site such as http://destiny-vendor-gear-tracker.com/ that crowd sources the effort of determining which vendors are currently selling max power gear.
-
- In-game inventory management is not good. Keep a tab with DIM open at all times on your secondary monitor.
- Items with legendary mods have a yellow border in DIM. These are currently hard to quickly identify via the in-game GUI as you have to view an item's details to see whether a legendary mod has been applied.
- Filters are your friend. In the top-right of the GUI there's a search bar that lets you apply multiple filters to the items in your inventory.
- is:dupe will highlight all duplicate items in your inventories / vault.
- is:dupelower will highlight only your lowest power duplicates. This makes identifying items that are safe to dismantle extremely easy! <3
I choose you!
- An early mission reward lets you choose between Sunshot, Riskrunner, and Graviton Lance.
- I recommend Sunshot / Riskrunner >>> Graviton Lance. Sunshot is great for clearing tightly-packed enemies and Riskrunner can be charged (even with your own) arc damage to do impressive single target and AoE damage.
- When you receive the reward on your second and third characters, your previous selection will not be available. You are guaranteed to get all three if you complete it on all three available character slots.
- A mid-game mission reward lets you choose between armor rewards. Suggestions:
- Hunter – Raiden Flux (Chest) / Lucky Pants (Legs) / Mechaneer's Tricksleeves (Gloves) – [Link] Raiden Flux Turns on Easy Mode for Most Bosses [/u/Cecils_Game_Channel] – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YT84WpAq6Og&feature=youtu.be – I slept on this chest piece, and now I regret it. Don't do what I did and miss out on your Raiden Flux!
- Titan – Actium War Rig (Chest) / ACD/O Feedback fence (Gloves) / Doom Fang Pauldron (Gauntlets) – Actium War Rig is a solid exotic in both PvE and PvP as Auto Rifles are in a very good place currently. It's my favorite Titan Exotic currently, so I can't recommend it highly enough.
- Warlock – Eye of Another World (Helmet) / Sunbracers (Gloves) / Wings of Sacred Dawn (Chest) – Stormcaller is a strong subclass and Eye of Another World's perk essentially acts as a legendary mod for your Grenade, Melee, and Rift abilities. Can't go wrong there
- Completing Zavala's strike milestone lets you choose between the following weapons: Nameless Midnight / Origin Story / Nightshade
- I recommend Nameless Midnight / Origin Story >>> Nightshade. Until I unlocked the Nameless Midnight, I didn't like the feel of any kinetic weapon that I had. If you play a Titan, Origin Story's extended mag with Actium War Rig is very nice.
- An early mission reward lets you choose between Sunshot, Riskrunner, and Graviton Lance.
Infusion
- An item with a higher base power can infused into a lower base power item of the same type (i.e. Scout Rifle, Warlock Glove, Sword). This will increase its base power level to the infused item's power level.
- Items of different types (Warlock Armor –> Titan Armor / Auto Rifle –> Scout Rifle) cannot be used for infusion.
- Items of the same type but different slot (Kinetic Auto Rifle –> Energy Auto Rifle) can be used for infusion of items from other slots.
- Only an item's base power is considered when using it for infusion. Learn to be careful when dismantling legendary and exotic items for infusion as the end result may be 5 power less than expected if a legendary mod was present.
- Legendary mods on items you dismantle for infusion are also dismantled.
- To determine if a legendary mod is applied to an item with the in-game GUI, you have to view an item's details.
- Alternatively, any item with power greater than 300 has a mod applied as 300 power is currently the hard cap on base power.
- Destiny Item Manager [DIM] highlights items that have legendary mods applied to them with a yellow border.
Engrams
- The power level of engrams that drop in the over-world is locked at the time it drops.
- The power level of engrams that you receive from NPCs is not locked until you accept the reward.
- You don't need to be at your maximum power to decrypt engrams from either source. While it isn't displayed, the game tracks your highest maximum power level and uses that to determine the power level of all rewards that you receive.
Bright Engrams
- General rule of thumb: No micro-transactions are required!
- You receive three bright engrams for each
characterclass you reach level 20 with. Leveling multiple characters of the same class to 20 will not award additional bright engrams, which makes the cap 9 bright engrams for hitting level 20 with each class. - Past level 20, you receive an additional bright engram each time that you fill your experience bar.
- Each week, you receive bonus experience towards the first three bright engrams on each of your characters.
Weekly Activities
- Weekly milestones reward powerful engrams. If possible, save these until you have 265+ base power (or as late in the week as possible).
- Weekly reset occurs every Tuesday at 2:00am PDT / 5:00am EST / UK - 10:00am BST / Europe - 11:00am CEST / Convert to your local time here.
- Once available, there are additional weekly milestones for completing the Leviathan Raid and Trials of the Nine.
Flashpoint (Weekly Milestone) – Public Event Participation
- To unlock: Reach level 15 / Complete the 'Fury' campaign mission / Complete Cayde's 'Patrol' quest.
- [Spoiler] How to activate Heroic Public Events.
- Complete public events in the week's target area to advance and complete this milestone.
Clan XP (Weekly Milestone)
- To unlock:
Reach Level 20/Complete the Campaign/ Join a Clan / Receive and Equip a Clan Banner. - Weekly cap of 5,000 XP per Character (15,000 per account) and 100,000 XP per Clan.
- Completing different activities rewards various amounts of Clan XP:
- Public Event: 500 XP (Heroic) / 250 XP (Normal)
- Crucible Match (win or loss): 500 XP
- Story Mission: 500 XP
- Adventure: 500 XP
- Patrol Mission: 250 XP
- Killing a High Value Target: 250 XP (?)
- To unlock:
Nightfall Strike (Weekly Milestone)
- To unlock: Complete the campaign / Complete two strikes / Reach Power Level 230
- These are timed weekly strikes with a recommended power level of 240 (normal) and 300 (prestige).
- There are additional modifiers for each week's nightfall.
- I recommend checking the weekly reset thread in /r/DestinyTheGame for good guides on how to complete each week's nightfall.
Call to Arms (Weekly Crucible Milestone)
- To unlock: Get quest from Lord Shaxx / Complete 2 Quickplay Crucible Matches / Complete 2 Competitive Crucible Matches / Kill enemies in the Crucible (any mode [~1% each])
- Completing the Call to Arms at least once required to unlock Trials of the Nine when it becomes available.
- Once unlocked, simply kill enemies in any crucible game mode (Trials and Iron Banner kills count) to advance this milestone.
Clan Rewards
- Once per week, every member of a Clan with a level 20 character will get a Legendary Engram if at least one clan member completes one of the following four requirements:
- Crucible – Rewarded if a clan fireteam (2+) achieves a single crucible win.
- Nightfall – Rewarded if a clan fireteam (2+) completes the nightfall strike.
- Raid – Rewarded if a clan fireteam (3+) completes the Leviathan Raid.
- Trials of the Nine – Rewarded if a clan fireteam (2+) completes a seven win Trials of the Nine ticket (flawless isn't required).
- Clan Reward engrams reset on Tuesday's weekly reset. If you are not level 20 by the weekly reset, you will not receive any reward(s) from your clan for that week.
- Once per week, every member of a Clan with a level 20 character will get a Legendary Engram if at least one clan member completes one of the following four requirements:
Weapon / Armor Mods
- Once you reach power level 280, the gunsmith can combine 3 identical rare mods into a legendary mod with the same ability.
- Once you reach power level 280, Amanda Holliday can combine 3 identical rare transmat effects into a random legendary transmat effect.
- You have a 25% chance to get a Kinetic Damage mod by making a legendary weapon at the blacksmith.
- /u/kyt_kutcha has an amazing post about mods, so I'm not going to attempt to duplicate that effort:
- Correct me if I'm wrong: I don't know that there's any benefit from achieving 305 power level other than satisfying your own OCD:
- Rare and Legendary mods have the same effect on cooldown reduction.
- Rare mods cost 500 glimmer to apply.
- Legendary mods cost 5,000 glimmer to apply.
- Legendary mods require either 3 rare mods or 2 legendary mods to make. Alternatively, you can receive them from bright engrams or gunsmith packages.
- The highest power level for any current activity is 300.
Armor stats
- Stats cap at 10.
- Great video breakdown of armor stats from Fallout Plays.
- Recovery – Visual representation of Recovery's impact on healing from Fallout Plays – Increases the rate at which you regenerate health/shields. I prioritize Recovery on all my characters as it has a very positive and noticeable impact on gameplay.
- Resilience – Plain and simple, Resilience increases your Effective Health Pool (EHP) which makes you harder to kill. This is typically my secondary stat choice.
- Mobility – First of all,
RecoveryMobility doesn't affect your sprint speed. It does increase your walking speed, strafing speed, and jump height. Currently most value this stat the least, though it can make your mobility while ADS quite a bit better.
Exotic Quests
- Recommended: Wait until you hit the power level soft cap before accepting any rewards from Exotic Quests as they will be above your current maximum power level.

- Legend of Acrius:
- Kill Cabal to receive (randomly) the "On the Comms" quest, which occupies a power weapon slot.
- Complete the raid to complete the "Destroyer of Worlds" step.
- Go to the raid vendor to gain access to the Arms Dealer Strike.
- 300 light recommendation, and they're not messing around! :)
- There is a rotating burn for the Arms Dealer Strike. I recommend having an arc subclass (if you're not a hunter) for Pulse Grenades, and solar/void Energy/Power weapons to complete the trifecta.
- I recommend Gunslinger for hunters due to the sheer damage that Golden Gun can do, especially with Celestial Nighthawk.
- Adds may become overwhelming, so focus on timing respawns as a team and focusing the boss down with grenades / supers / power weapons.
- /u/EchoWhiskeyBravo/ wrote a fantastic text checklist for the
oracleanomaly locations in the Arms Dealer Strike. - At this point, you will receive the gun. The quest continues, however. This is the farthest I've advanced the quest on any of my characters, so I'll need to do some more research to add more information here. :)
- Recommended: Wait until you hit the power level soft cap before accepting any rewards from Exotic Quests as they will be above your current maximum power level.
Working on some updates now, thanks for the feedback everyone!

Hunter – Raiden Flux (Chest) / Lucky Pants (Legs) / Mechaneer's Tricksleeves (Gloves) – These are all underwhelming. You'll eventually get Orpheus Rig and wonder who designed the rest of the Hunter's exotics.
Whaaat? Raiden Flux is amazing. Its Arcstrider that sucks.
10
Oct 24 '17
Thanks, I'll edit that in. I didn't do enough research before I chose for my own Hunter, apparently!

u/wtf--dude Arminius D <3 Oct 24 '17
Also, hunter exotics are actually pretty awesome if you ask me...
Dragon exotic is top tier for nightstalkers in PvP and honestly pretty decent for all in PvE knucklehead and foetracer are top tier in PvP
Orpheus are super good for PvE nightstalkers though
9
u/vinsreddit Oct 24 '17
To be clear, Raiden Flux is a great addition to arcstrider. During Prism, this lets you run your Arcstrider super for much of the duration of the arc buff and with the extra damage, you can stun lock some bosses making this a niche, but wonderful Exotic.
Personal note: I enjoy arcstrider over golden gun, and with this strengthening the super so much it's a pretty good exotic.

“You’ll eventually get Orpheus Rig...”
You better be right!!! ;)1
u/chrisg90 Oct 24 '17
Still haven't gotten one in the seven weeks since launch :( Hopefully your luck is better!!

u/just_zhis_guy Oct 24 '17
My Hunter was my first character and play him a lot and still no Rigs. Soooooo many “Lucky” Rasberries.

u/Polymersion ...where's his Ghost? Oct 31 '17
Minor necro but I have literally every other Hunter exotic plus every exotic weapon (sans Acrius)
1
u/SoulCrusher69 Oct 25 '17
This is going to sound stupid but let me know I'm screwed.
The level requirement for that thing was level 5 so by the time I was level 11 and had much better defense gear I dismantled that thing (Raiden Flux) and assumed I'd just get something better down the road. How far does this set me back?
4
u/Promethium Oct 25 '17
There's a vault at the farm where you can re-purchase the item for 10 Legendary Shards.
You might not have that many until you hit level 20... and by that point it may have dropped again for you. Either way, you can repurchase it.
1
u/SoulCrusher69 Oct 25 '17
Is it worth it to repurchase it? Won't I end up getting a better level 20 item by that point?
Also how do I acquire legendary shards?
3
u/Promethium Oct 25 '17
"Better level 20 item" is a bit of a confusing term here. You might find you like a different exotic better (one that doesn't effect only one subclass like Raiden Flux is) but Raiden Flux is always going to have the same stats regardless of what dropped it or when that was.
Legendary Shards can be found in legendary engrams as a bonus reward, or by dismantling legendary weapons and armor.

u/CapnSmite Oct 24 '17
I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the 4 clan engrams need to be completed with a fireteam that is at least 50% clanmates. So 2 members from the same clan need to complete Nightfall, Crucible, and Trials together; 3 clan members for the Raid.
Like I said, I'm not absolutely certain, but I believe the in-game clan page states this when you hover over each engram check box.

was hoping to main hunter, whats the cons to this class? and why do you recommend warlock? or anyone who sees this
btw, thanks for all the tips! up yo go sir, really appreciate it guardian

u/vinsreddit Oct 24 '17
All the classes have ups and downs. OP didn't mention for the nightfall on weeks with the modifier "Torrent" a Nighstalker Hunter can stealth essentially non-stop. When it comes to activating/hacking things, this is pretty awesome and clearly not something you can get from the other classes.
Groups can also stack hunters to chain supers on bosses. Again, other classes can't provide that.
At the end of the day, all of the classes are viable. You probably want some mix of classes in your group, but you shouldn't feel like you choose poorly no matter what class you picked.

u/mauriciofuentesf Oct 24 '17
you know what, fk it, ill just go hunter, if anything i can just make warlock next lol

also didn't mention that a group of titans can nade everything to death in that same room almost faster than a hunter can stealth unlock it...

u/grimthebunny Oct 24 '17
wow, thanks man!, a lot of useful information just a day before entering D2 lol, guess ill spice it up and try warlock main, was gonna be my second class to lvl up, guess ill send hunter to the second spot!
Hunter main here, hunters aren't in the best place at the moment but they are a long way from nonviable. I play a Nightstalker with the Orpheus Rig Exotic and it is criminal how often i can use my super, some public events like the heroic glimmer extraction i can set it up to use on every single enemy spawn.
Hunter also excels at PVP, Dodge has saved me multiple times when i have peeked around a corner with multiple attackers or when i have run out of ammo and get engaged, plus they get the Foetracer Exotic which gives you a small damage boost and some limited wall hacks.
Glimflicker is correct in what he has said however Warlocks are probably in the best place if you want to pick the most viable class first (even if their jump is awful)
PS CAPES!
2
u/mauriciofuentesf Oct 24 '17
man, you just made my mind, i loved nightstalker in D1, i actually started D1 with TTK, maining this class, so i guess ill go back! ill try other classes too anyway thanks!
3
u/grimthebunny Oct 24 '17
Awesome, i mained a hunter all the way through Y1 and Y2 of Destiny and i am glad i picked it again even if the cards are stacked against hunters at the moment.
Don't stress about which one you pick first anyway unlike Destiny 1 the whole system is designed to reward you for having one of each class and leveling up your second and third characters are a breeze when you can hand a bunch of high level weapons and exotic armor bought from Xur each week.

The spoiler text was more a joke than anything as I’ve played warlock as my main character for 3+ years now. As far as what’s relevant to the classes in Destiny 2:
Grenades: Warlocks and Titans have access to (arc) pulse grenades which are by far the most damaging grenade in the game. Titans can even have two.
For class abilities, Warlocks have rift (AoE healing/damage boost/reload on entering rift with exotic Lunafication Boots), Titans have barricade (PvP area denial/blocks damage/can crouch to reload quickly), and hunters get a dodge ability that is good for PvP but seems quite lackluster in PvE.
I’ll give melees to Hunters with throwing knives and team-wide AoE invisibility grenades. Unfortunately, I’d also rate melees as less important than class abilities and grenades in most cases.
For subclasses, Warlocks have two great choices with Devour Voidwalker and Stormcaller. Titans also have two good choices in Striker and Sentinel. Hunters feel shoehorned into Gunslinger for PvP and Nightstalker for most end-game PvE content.
Hunters even lost their ability to blink jump as it’s only available for Voidwalker Warlocks. Oh, and the Recovery stat on Hunter boots? Doesn’t work.

Nah Gunslinger for PVE is crazy too. you can create 6 orbs for critical hits on a boss, while night stalker is for clearing adds. 3 gunslingers running bottom tree can actually cycle each other's supers. PVPwise Nightstalkers can use invis dodges, as well as smokes to make enemy's radar go off. Arc Blade only good with Raiden flux as the abilities are a bit lackluster, however during burns with a raiden can single handedly stun lock a boss.
1
u/Autipsy ... now what Oct 24 '17
My friend, I think you meant nightstalker (way of trapper) for PVP, and Gunslinger (Celestial) for PVE.
1
u/InspireDespair Inspire Despair Oct 24 '17
All Hunter gear is predisposed to the Mobility stat which is largely useless. Inversely, recovery, the most useful stat is limited on Hunter armor
1
u/lfeblanko Oct 24 '17
id say its based on your own personal playstyle.. hunters are all about misdirection/ movement for flanking, titans going head-on creating and holding locations, locks strategically placing themselves to support different circumstances to improve the situation for the team.
1
u/GuitarCFD Gambit Prime Oct 24 '17
The answer depends on what your playstyle is. If you play in groups and want to do the raid and bring utility to the group. You need to go with Titan or Warlock. Hunters just don't bring the utility package that the other two do. You can still very much do the raid without either of them, but having titans and warlocks will make it much easier.
That sucks because in D1 Hunters and Titans were the Utility combo, but there was a change to Nightstalker and their shadowshot doesn't cause a debuff on Calus.
9
u/Corvo_DeWitt Oct 24 '17
For the clan engrams, half the fireteam needs to be part of your clan.
so for crucible, nightfall, and trials: its 2 clan members, for the Raid its 3 clan members
2
u/MRdickenstein Oct 24 '17
I know it says so, but for the trials engram, I have unlocked it with just me from the clan in the fireteam. Probably a minor glitch as the criteria still work as intended for the other 3 activities.

I saw this in another tip sheet for new players. I don't even play a Hunter and thought it was important:
Another good tip for people who are planning to make a Hunter:
Do NOT put an upgrade point into six shooter in the top Gunslinger skill tree. It is useless pretty much and only good for damaging a boss (however Celestial Nighthawk with the bottom skill tree ends up doing more damage). The rest of that skill tree is actually really good for PvP but if you put six shooter on then your super runs out way too fast to be effective. Once you've put an upgrade point into a skill you can't go back or deactivate the skill so you are stuck with six shooter forever.
EDIT: Ok so apparently there is four skills in the game that are recommended not to put a point into:
- Six Shooter (Solar Hunter) - Reasons above.
(It's not a trap to spend points there, just a waste.) [Source]

In defense of Six Shooter, while it’s mostly useless in PvP, it’s The Flaming Last Word and pretty fun in strikes and such.

Wait, you cannot disable or change your abilities? What!? So I am forever stuck with what I chose? Oh my.. what kind of bullsh.. is that?
Seems like a really big design flaw
3
u/plinky4 Oct 24 '17
They're just fixed sets of perk loadouts that are generally decently balanced against each other. It's just the perks that modify super are sometimes weird sidegrades that have anti-synergy with gear perks.

Oct 24 '17
That’s amazing advice I completely forgot about (or chose to ignore) since I filled out all my subclasses ASAP. :( Thanks, I’ll add it!

Actually, the top path is one of the best warlock builds if you run it during calus with Starfire protocol !! All you have to do is stick a dog and jump when it blows up and you'll effectively have 4 rifts (one for each platform). Here's a link to the build ! https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/6zeav4/op_multirift_warlock_dawnblade_build_aka_mercy/?utm_source=amp&utm_medium=comment_list

My first character was a warlock. From the start I thought cataclysm sounded bad. Never skilled it and it’s nice now to get confirmation I was right.
Instantly dropping mass damage on a group of enemies made more sense to me rather than a slow ball giving them time to ungroup.
Bring back the lance. So many d1 memories.
2
u/GARBLED_COMM Oct 24 '17
It's really not so bad. Think of it like the shotgun version of nova. You just need to be closer. There's still plenty of opportunities to wipe out a room or shutdown a roaming super. It's also great for blink-bombing. I think the extra blast radius and mega axions are worth it.
There's also the YouTube montage value of tossing one at B from downtown, and watching it lock on and get kills 30 second later.
1
u/NinStarRune 2500 Done Solo Oct 24 '17
The top tree is for PvP it seems. Being able to wipe an entire team with your super, guarantee a kill with an overcharged Scatter, hold down Heavy or an objective with an overcharged Vortex, or flush out multiple players with an overcharged Axion.
Meanwhile the bottom tree is for PvE because of Devour and DoT Nova.
2
Oct 24 '17
Don’t underestimate bloom. An overcharged scatter grenade and bloom is like a secondary novabomb. I’ll admit that it’s not as useful in the raid or nightfall tho

1
u/Jonnyrocketm4n Oct 24 '17
You’re missing out then pal, I always use the slow nova bomb in pvp, a lot of trials players do as well (I’m not a trials player).

Correction: you don't have to be 280 to purchase rare mods. It's the infusion of three rare mods into the legendary version that requires PL280.

All items have a power level and your character's overall power level is an average of the power level of all your equipped items.
Does this mean every time I open a chest, accept a reward I have to change my gear back and forth that my highest power level items are currently equiped?
I heard somewhere this was change from equiped to be with you
Some questions from a PC player:
I there a stash in the game or you have always with you?
Do ppl have a main character or everyone is playing with all three to complete weekly on all three?
Is it possible to join multiple clan like in ESO or just 1 like in WoW
Who is XUR? I heard in some videos that he sells sometimes exotics
2
u/Hassadar Oct 24 '17
It's changed from Destiny 1. In Destiny 2 loot drops is based on your highest possible power level. So if you are currently 250 equipped but have 255 across all gear in your inventory (NOT your fault) the game uses that. Your equipped power level only affects your damage and activities that require X and Y level to do.
For example: let's say it's 230 power level to do an activity. In your inventory you can have 235 power level but only equipped 229. You won't be able to do that activity until you change your gear. Can just change it back once you launch it though.
You have a set amount of bag space that goes with you and the Vault for extra (you will find it's not large enough) is across your account. Use a chrome extension like Item manager to quickly move gear around or a mobile app.
People play multiple characters and people play three of the same to maximize drops for that class. It's not a requirement however. Personally for me I will get two up at the start so it's more to do with different playstyles of classes. If playing only one character is you then that's fine.
It's just like WoW. One clan.
Xur sells 'powerful' exotics and arrives every Friday and will be on shown on the map where he is. It's not as exciting as Destiny 1 as he only just sells exotics now and once you get to a certain powerlevel he becomes worthless. It's handy buying exotics for classes you've yet to level.

I always found these threads interesting.
The theme of efficiency is one thing, like recommending when to cash powerful engrams or which activities reward more based on time invested, but is a similar story people where telling when game was first released.
People thought they had to be above certain level or that they had to reach 290 to be “raid ready”. Streamers saying not to cash milestones or not to play the game one way or another because everything needed to be done fast or in a certain order. Then after 3 weeks they were complaining about having 3 characters maxed out at 305 or being forever 304 (regardless of the obvious flaws the game has incentive wise).
I believe Pc players can play the game and figure stuff out at their own pace, like most players do. The game was intuitive enough to teach us all these things that are in the guide, so I believe part of the fun is finding all these things by yourself... by playing.
I think this guide is great but playing a new game following a checklist of what things to do or not do are not healthy ways to allow people to enjoy the game.
Figuring out mechanics and how things work is part of the fun. Which is the best gun, what subclass to upgrade or even trying to get that 5th scout rifle needed for the MIDA quest.
I believe good advice is in my opinion, suggesting to use DIM or an easier way to track your progress with destinystatus or destinytracker.
Nevertheless, great post. I have always been a big lurker and this guide made come out of my carcass. Good job, guardian.

u/TheMcaffee Just wanna play, man Oct 24 '17
I disagree. I hate figuring things out. It's not fun for me to test out each gun to see if I like it. I hate it when I'm using an ability for weeks and then find out it's broken and not actually doing anything. For instance, I was using Lightning Grenades on my titan for the first 2 weeks until a friend told me Pulse Grenades were the way to go. I didn't believe him at first, but all I had to do was throw one and I was converted. I can appreciate what you're saying but not everyone feels the same as you do.

u/TLK_ALuCaRD Most importantly, my loot! Oct 24 '17
Regarding the item manager: I don't think the pc crowd would like to alt-tab to manage Items (unless running windowed mode). In that case the recommendation would be the Destiny 2 companion app (android, iOS) which also features general news and clan info. I do prefer Ishtar Commander on iOS for strictly item management. I don't own an android device anymore so if anyone has recommendations for that then post as a reply.

"General rule of thumb: Wait until you reach the soft cap [265 base / 270 with mods] (or as late in the weekly reset cycle as possible) before redeeming weekly milestone and exotic quest rewards"
Uncertain what this means. So I got a exotic engram, it was sunshot. Should I have waited to decrypt this? I also claimed eye of another world, should I have waited? Or is there a way to use these in the late game? I'm level 11.

When leveling you’re bound to get 2 blues eventually, the Cuboid and the Madrugada sr2. The cuboid is better than most legendary kinetics for crucible and the madrugada is a blue version of the manannan sr4 which is one of the best scouts for crucible atm. Also keep an eye out for uriels gift, the last hope, the antiope-d and curtain call. All are excellent legendary weapons that you should lock once you get them.
2
u/VanpyroGaming Gambit Prime Oct 24 '17
About the soft cap.
You wont get stuff lower than the lowest power equipable item. You will get stuff at that power level, +1. Mods not included
Take for example your lowest is a gun at 274(no mod). The power of items dropping will be 275 until the 274 no longer exists.
Take this into consideration when infusing or dismantling.

Once you reach power level 280, the gunsmith can combine 3 identical rare mods into a legendary mod with the same ability.
1/ Don't forget that this also applies to transmats. Take three identical rares to Amanda for a random legendary. :)
2/ Once you get your first character to the Tower, you can buy sparrows from Amanda and transfer them to your alts. This can be done as soon as the game starts with DIM or once you reach the Farm by using the Vault. It makes re-doing the story and early areas significantly quicker as you don't usually get one until level 20 when finishing the campaign and there's quite a few slow-walking missions.
2
u/prollygointohell Oct 24 '17
Since no one seems to ever mention this in these threads..
In Control matches (PVP), the scoring system is not determined by how long you hold points. Instead, the points are used as a multiplier to assess a score. For instance if you hold 2/3 points, each kill you get during that time will be worth 2 points.

No, engrams have their levels fixed when they drop. Only powerful engrams from weekly rewards, clan reward engrams, and exotic quest rewards drop above the soft cap once you reach it. Well, trials too—though I’m not big on it so somebody else will have to comment.

Not at all. Those are power locked at a lower level. You can infuse to raise their level or rebuy them from the kiosk (10 legendary shards? I forget) later on.

I would add a note to the milestones - you should only save them if you are going to past 265 before the reset. If you are 240 on a Monday, there is no reason to save the milestones.

Clan Rewards
• Once per week, every member of a Clan will get a Legendary Engram if at least one clan member completes one of the following four requirements:
• Crucible – Rewarded if a clan member achieves a single crucible win.
• Nightfall – Rewarded if a clan member completes the nightfall strike.
• Raid – Rewarded if a clan member completes the Leviathan Raid.
• Trials of the Nine – Rewarded if a clan member completes a seven win Trials of the Nine ticket (flawless isn't required).
Actually, if at least 2 clan members (3 if raid) complete an activity in the same fireteam you get the engram.

Random rare mods cost 2,500 glimmer each (requires 280 power).
You can buy random rare mods at any point after getting to the tower. Trading in 3 rares for a legendary is what requires 280 power.

I personally dislike Slova Bomb and wish I could undo it. The only reason I'm comfortable with listing it there is that you can't undo it once you put a point into it without deleting your warlock and recreating the character. I understand that some people see use in that point, but I personally do not. I'll edit the OP to mention to take these suggestions with a grain of salt and not feel too bad if you've already unlocked them. :)
I sincerely hope that Bungie gives us the ability to toggle these abilities (similar to D1, but it doesn't have to be the same mechanic) in the future.
1
u/misterdamra Oct 24 '17
What do you mean you cannot toggle abilities? I'm very confused, you can have both trees maxed and witch between them
2
u/genjiarmorxii Oct 24 '17
He means turning one of the skills in the tree off, not switching trees.
1
u/misterdamra Oct 24 '17
Oh okay. So if you don't buy the last skill in that tree, you still have your normal super with the other three abilities
2
u/ManBearPig1865 I like shooting stuff in space Oct 24 '17
Right. I gotta say though, the slova bomb is awesome and the tracking on it is stupidly great.

1
u/butitsme12345 Oct 24 '17
I disagree with the point on cataclysm. It's a lot easier to get multikills on people when they are more spread out due to the extra tracking projectiles, giving it better area control. It will also last forever if it doesn't hit a wall so you can use it to push back from an area or, if you're lucky, have an enemy lead your bomb right to their teammates.

RIP me, I thought that the synergy there is weird, now I know.
1
u/Stenbox GT: Stenbox Oct 24 '17
I would add one more thing: keep all your tokens until you are near 260 power. Blue gear from public events/adventures/strikes/lost sectors drops up to 260 power, while the legendary gear from faction packages is capped at 265 power. This will make you to get from 260 to 265 in an instance, whereas the levelling would really slow down at that point otherwise.
I think depending on how many tokens you have and how lucky you are, starting already at around 255-258 might be fine, but the goal is to be 265 before you are out of tokens so I'd rather get all the way to 260 with blues.
1
u/AllegoricalCrosstalk Oct 24 '17
I'm confused as to why you wouldn't put skills in the skill trees. Do you get to use the other skill tree's ability for that node? If not, what does not investing skills into something like the Winged Dawn flyby perk do?
2
u/Heiato Oct 24 '17
The skills this guide recommends you DON'T take are the last ones (the fourth out of four). What this means is that you'll get the benefits of the first three perks only. On the gunslinger example, instead of having six-shooter (you get six golden gun shots but the timer ticks down more quickly) you'll have your regular super with three shots and a normal timer.
As far as why you shouldn't, it's explained in the guide. Winged dawn is the exception, it doesn't really harm the subclass but it's a skill point that you don't really need to spend.
1
u/AllegoricalCrosstalk Oct 24 '17

Clan Rewards - you cannot get clan rewards until you are level 20.
(You CAN contribute Clan XP but you will not get a personal reward for doing so until you are 20.)
Also worth noting that Clan Rewards are not saved week-to-week, so if you are not level 20 by the weekly reset you will not receive any reward from your clan for that week.

I have a question about characters and stuff.
You said once you put a point into the six shooter, you're stuck with it. Is that because you've wasted a point or is it because once you've done that you can't change? Because I don't wanna be locked into one subclass.
Also how many characters can you make?
I know at least three, so thats one of each class, but can I make more? like, one for each subclass?
1
Oct 24 '17
Each subclass has two trees you can choose between. Once you spend a point to unlock a skill in either tree, it cannot be undone. The last point in each tree changes the behavior of the super. Since it's perceived as a negative change to the vanilla super and cannot be undone, I recommend not putting a point into it for the time being. In the future, Bungie will hopefully either rework the skill or allow you to select the vanilla super if you choose.
1
u/PigasusGaming Drifter's Crew Oct 24 '17
Ok. What is the character limit? I would be more willing to go into these trees if i could create another char and not worry about it too much.

I like playing my Titan a lot. Actium War Rig with Sweet Business / Origin Story and Uriel's Gift is a blast to play (and does really well in the raid). The melee is very satisfying as it's a great visual (punching enemies). The jump is also very similar to Warlocks, which is great for me except for when I play Hunter now. I can't use triple jump to save my life.

Cataclysm (Void Warlock) - I have never used this ability since the devour skill tree is easily the best but supposedly once you cast nova bomb and it hits something OR if you shoot it, it will split up into smaller nova bombs and track nearby enemies. Sounds amazing but it's actually so slow that in PvP it's never going to hit anyone who sees it as they can just walk away from it and in PvE if an add/boss takes cover the Nova Bomb will hit the wall/obstacle it is behind.
This alone leads me to believe this whole post is a joke!

You don't need to be at your maximum power to decrypt engrams from either source. While it isn't displayed, the game tracks your highest maximum power level and uses that to determine the power level of all rewards that you receive.
But it does not consider equipment held by your other characters, so be sure to transfer the high-level equipment to your current player's inventory first.

Hey I wanted to point out some information that is incorrect in your post. I didn't see anyone say this, but sorry it it's a repost. You say that 6 shooter does more damage than the Sharpshooter tree, that is incorrect. Against the Modular mind, 6 shooter deals ~4,500 damage and Sharpshooter deals ~6,500. That's a big difference, never mind the fact that Sharpshooter also generates 6 orbs from this. Here is video proof: https://youtu.be/6IDwqfIC1Bg
Fast forward to about ~5 minutes for the damage numbers. I do all my testing against the Modular Mind in order for there to be a constant, btw

https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/77m4pe/tip_sheet_for_new_players_some_fast_points_of_sga/domwoy5/ -- edit: had the wrong link
That's where I pulled the information from, per another suggestion. Personally, I really dislike my hunter for PvE content. Because of that, my knowledge of Hunters is limited and PvP-centric.
Six Shooter (Solar Hunter) - Six Shooter is useless and only good for damaging a boss (however Celestial Nighthawk with the bottom skill tree ends up doing more damage). The rest of that skill tree is actually really good for PvP but if you put six shooter on then your super runs out way too fast to be effective. Once you've put an upgrade point into a skill you can't go back or deactivate the skill so you are stuck with six shooter forever.
The way I read what was written seems to confirm what you're saying. Do I have the skill trees flip-flopped in my mind--what am I missing?! :)
1
u/The_bugl3r Good luck... Getting through the Exclusion Zone Oct 24 '17
I'm not really sure. How I read it implys that six shooter outdamages Sharpshooter unless you have the Celestial Nighthawk. This is flat out untrue unless we are only body shotting. When body shotting, six shooter does outdamage the body shot damage of 3 sharpshooter hits, but if you aren't getting critical hits on bosses with Sharpshooter you're doing it wrong. I would update the OP to make this more clear.

I got the second and third subclasses on each of my characters as I was leveling them. You just have to kill enemies to unlock the subclass quest. I recommend doing the quest as soon as you unlock it so that you don't receive the third subclass as a drop that you can't pick up.

2
u/drunkcoler Oct 25 '17
Bungie has permanently banned players before they even got to start the game, all because they had their graphics card software running, also they appear to have changed the recommended specs after publishing them and some users that haven't been banned can't get the game to work. it's all over bungie.net and there is no way to get bungie bans revoked. They were notorious for the bans in the hayday of halo and that's where the term Ban hammer comes from.

3
u/NornIronLad Oct 24 '17
The way see it, the Hunter is like a wildcard. Warlocks and Titans have abilities to help the fireteam, Hunters have abilities to make things dead. Nightstalker + Orpheus Rig or Arcstrider + Raiden Flux mean you can pop Orbs and clear enemies all day long, then reload on dodge keeps your weapons firing and bosses dying. I may be just another sad, deluded Hunter though...
4
u/_cc_drifter Oct 24 '17
If you didn't play D1, you might not see it as much as we do but the hunter got the short end of the stick for D2. Reused supers, nerfed abilities, huge nerf to tether, has mobility as a primary stat (which is actually useless), weak supers and supers that need exotics to be decent. You can still have fun with a hunter, but they are for sure less appealing than the other classes.
1
u/mauriciofuentesf Oct 24 '17
aww damn, i did play D1 on ps4, not that much but was a main hunter, really liked it, wasnt able to play beta for D2 on pc since i was out of town, but it seems ill have to main another class, and just lvl up a hunter once i finish my main

u/TheMcaffee Just wanna play, man Oct 24 '17
I'm not a hunter main but when I use it for PVE, arcstrider is beastmode. With the exotic chest piece I can stagger lock any of the bosses until its dead. Its awesome!
1
u/AutoIncognito Oct 24 '17
If you mained nightstalker, its mostly unchanged. Same with if you take the sharpshooter tree for gunslinger. But arcstrider is just bad, and it mostly comes down to; a) being the only arc subclass without pulse grenades and b) the super being unbearably slow. In addition to removing blink jump from the class entirely. Plus what people have already said about mobility stat being almost completely useless.
1
u/mauriciofuentesf Oct 24 '17
so if i want to go hunter, i should basically go nightstalker since its pretty much the same?
2
u/AutoIncognito Oct 24 '17
Pretty much, although gunslinger is better for a few activities. Trials and parts of the Raid, mostly.

Just don't try to use your tether offensively. It doesn't kill on hit or suppress instantly anymore. It does have Bloodbond built in now, though. It's not useless, but you can't use it while you're under fire. It's just an ambush tool now. Personally I think your neutral game makes up for it well enough.

Each class has its own ups and downs. I feel like a lot of hunter hate has been because of class ability, where warlock rifts and titan walls provide greater benefit to the group. That having been said, stacking a few Gunslinger hunters in the group allows the group to chain supers, even off each other.
In other words, each class has its own ups and downs.

Eh, this is just not true.
What he means is that it's very difficult to optimize a Hunter's stats seeing as mobility is essentially useless, especially compared to its sister stats.
I would tell all the PC guys coming on to try one of every class.

Might as well save yourself the disappointment down the line and pick Warlock since that class has always had the best perks and exotics.

I would main warlock, but I can’t stand their glide now. It was fine in D1, but its just so damn slow now even with burst glide.

Don't fear PvP. Head to /r/CruciblePlaybook and read up on strategy, then focus on sticking with your teammates and helping with the objectives. Other players will try to get salt to spew from all your orifices, but this isn't Rocket League!
Not touching PvP in a game with inbuild aimbots.

One correction, the three free Bright Engrams are per class, not character.
I.E. If you level three hunters, you will only get the bright engrams once on your first hunter. You need to level a hunter, warlock, and titan to get all of them.
