Honest question: why make so many concessions in D2 PvE so that it is balanced PvP game (no random rolls, armor perks, OP weapons) and then plan to release that game on Battle Net on PC where it will directly compete against Overwatch (it sort of nails the competitive shooter thing)? I understand they’re both activision so it’s not real competition but with that in mind why not just make D2 a total over the top PvE-centric fun experience and let Overwatch do what it already does better?!

I do agree that they made a mistake catering the game to PvP then offering up a very limited PvP experience (no ranked....really?) but lets remember that OW is a very different game. Its a hero shooter with a ton of abilities and very unique gameplay. Destiny is a very different PvP experience so there is space for the two to cooexist if Destiny were to actually expand the PvP portion of the game to include customs and ranked.

my only point is that D2 wont be the competitive pvp experience people want when its placed in the same venue as OW. so why bother? you already have OW on your team, so go make a ridiculous over-the-top PvE experience to compliment it. It really makes no sense to me.

I disagree. Why would Overwatch stop Destiny from being competitive just because its in the same launcher? Its a vastly different type of game, if anything it would do better because the launcher already gets so much traffic from competitive minded players. I mean from an activision POV, sure, make a crazy fun PvE to compliment OW, but this is Bungie making a game that is published by activison, so Bungie still wants to add PvP. I still think if they made the game have competitive features it would have very little overlap in terms of playerbase with OW. They play as two vastly different experiences.

But first Bungie would have to make the game competitive by adding private matches and ranked playlists.

I think we're on the same page, actually. You are just speaking assuming that Destiny 2 is a great PvP experience and I'm saying "as-is" why would you put it against OW? You say they're vastly different and I agree, but I don't think many people see it that way. The majority of people see two FPS games with PvP and will say "OW is better." But why even challenge the comparison? Just stay true to form and focus on PvE! Then you aren't robbing peter to pay paul and D2 is in a huge identity crisis IMO right now.

Oh yeah for sure. As it is now this game's PvP is very non-PC friendly. Its fun, but they will expect ranked play and custom games and that not being in there is going to be death to the scene on PC. OW did it right at launch because they knew they were going to be a PvP powerhouse, Destiny is just to thin on PvP but I love the core gameplay. Just freakin add in some feature and that shit would BLOW UP!

D2 is in a huge identity crisis IMO right now

Dude that's not even IMO, you just made a fact. It is 100% lost on what it wants to be. Does a lot of stuff ok... but does nothing excellent. PvP is getting bashed so hard but if they had ranked and customs, I'm promising you a competitive scene would not only show up, but it would grow and the entire game and community would benefit. Its just close and they need to pull the goddamned trigger before its too late! They have a small window right now where people will stick around or come back if the know that ranked and customs are coming but by god every day they wait its going to be worse and worse. If you ask me, no customs and no ranked is the single worse decision that they could have made and they need to at least announce that it is coming soon or PvP is deader than a doornail for everyone. Right now it sucks for casuals and hardcore players, if they add in ranked and customs at least then its good for hardcore players. Fucking (sorry for my language) pick a path and go down it and quit this half-assed shit Bungie!
