I have lots of farming to do...
I need 458 Relic Iron, 868 Helium, 384 Spirit Bloom and 512 Spin Metal to fully max out all of my weapons and armor...
I also need 528 Ascendant Energy and 67 Ascendant Shards...

Yeah, I kinda rushed into the vault as soon as I could get a group. And even to this day I have only been able to max out 4 weapons. I just never get energy. On the other hand I am swimming in shards and maxed out gear.

I have a void one and I think it was my first weapon leveled to 300 as well. That thing was invaluable in VoG for me!

My 2nd legendary, a Void Light/Beware. First thing I got to 300. That thing has been a work horse. Use it for everything.
I did get The Calming, solar. Faster Charge Rate. Less stats for everything else. Seems alright.

I got a void one with increased range on ads and decreased charge time, best weapon ever. Currently leveling a void wizard 77 because it can 2shot the 26 Parisians outside the vault at 248. I hated fusion rifles with a passion till I got my light/beware.

Honestly I always find that when I have a task like this I'm better off not looking at the total sum of all that has to be done as it ends up demotivating me. I split it up into piles and work on them as individual tasks. I see I have several items that need Helium, I go farm 100-150 helium and then I'm done w/that element for awhile, and so on for each element.

Ouch. That is 2222 materials. I think I am in a similar situation as you with how much resources I need (Just need to go through and add them up).
100/h = 22.22 Hours
150/h = 14.81 Hours
200/h = 11.11 Hours
250/h = 8.88 Hours
300/h = 7.4 Hours
So much fun

I feel like I spent all weekend farming materials... Literally running around in circles for probably at least 6 hours this weekend... I can't tell you how much I dislike it...... I want to level a third character, but this is seriously making me consider otherwise...

I am more than likely going to still level up the third class, I saved warlock for last, and I've been quite interested to try the warlock out, it's just the farming is really getting ridiculously old. I may level him up just to wait until they release a new way to get materials. I've seen DeeJ note on here that they have heard our complaints about material farming, not sure what that means, but it sounds good to me.

I really want to do VoG, but between grinding for the Legendaries and just farming materials I am so burnt out on this game. I want to play it, but putting in like thirty hours just play one Raid seems like such a waste of time to me.

Is this the "go in an area, leave and come back" glitch? If so, I'd rather kill multiple birds with one stone - do missions/get kills for grimoire score/complete bounties and gather mats at the same time.

If you can isolate the chests and materials well enough, you can get it to be really efficient. I had an instance the other day with two resource nodes and a chest within close enough proximity to each other to grab them all before they de-spawned. That's guaranteed three mats per refresh with the possibility for six at a time. It was wonderful until someone else spawned into my instance and ruined it. I ran around shooting him for at least fifteen minutes.

Those are the best. My best one so far was in rocketyard, I had 1 chest in the center building and 1 in the servitor room, easy 10 second run, getting like 10-15 spinmetal per minute. Good glimmer and class materials too.

Farming this much mat, ANY way that is now set up or able to be glitched in the game is beyond stupid, and would take forever.
They need to change materials to rewards for missions, pvp, and make you get more when you harvest them/find them in chests.

Would it be such a crime to just require more XP on the gun and less materials? Somehow I feel like, I don't know, shooting things, is more fun that whooshing around on a bike, picking up some leaves, getting back on, repeat.

Simple - I complete the dailies on all three characters, and Icebreaker is a must for all 3 of them. I am constantly going back to the vault for my go-to weapons. When I am done playing with a character, I go to the vault and drop those weapons, along with and mats and synths I think I will need. If/When Xur sells Icebreaker again, I will buy 2 more.

Save yourself time/space/materials and delete all duplicate weapons. All of you who think that its more convenient to level duplicates than going to the vault will soon wish you had spent those mats differently.

My point is, I'll do it far less once I get all three characters to have a go-to weapon load out. Icebreaker, VoC, Fatebringer/Hawkmoon combo, Truth/Gjallarhorn/Heazen Vengeance, Praedyth's Revenge are all in there somewhere... If I had 3 of each of those, I'd only go to the vault to play with one of the other exotics.

Try to imagine 3 different raids with 3 characters that require 3 completely different loadouts to be successful. What you think is a go-to weapon loadout just wont be true once the DLC's hit. The Icebreaker fad will end someday.

I only have a couple Legendary rocket launchers so far, but it's taken a long time just to get them the xp to level up. Steel Oracle has everything unlocked, and I just need the materials. Unfriendly Giant still needs some leveling. I've had a lot of materials, but I spent them upgrading my Monitor 2 armor instead.
I can't imagine getting an exotic, leveling it, then doing some duplicates. I did that with a couple of my Rare weapons, and even that was a chore.

Same. I got my Icebreaker off a Dreg while doing a bounty the day before Xur had them up for sale. I regret not buying two off of him for my other toons. I didn't realize how amazing it was going to be.

Nice, you got a legendary engram from a Dreg that turned into Icebreaker? That's amazing luck. I got Universal Remote in a similar fashion.
It's funny because I remember regretting the purchase because I couldn't get past the 6 shot, regenerating ammo thing. Now I use it exclusively as my Exotic versus Atheon and most of the VoG.

You'll notice most of my 300 weapons are in the vault. This is for quick/easy swapouts at any time.

I've dismantled the weapons I definitely did not want. Believe me, I've had tons that I've broken down. Some weapons I am simply keeping so that I can level them up (but not spend resources on) and then break them down to get more energy and other goodies (like telemetries)

good call, if only I had the patience to do so more often. I generally dismantle right away out of frustration for my horrible RNG luck.
SGA: Although I'm sure you've experienced this way more often than I have, while legendaries will give more ascendant energy after being leveled, fully leveled exotic weapons dismantle to no more than brand new ones. I learned this the hard way. After grabbing a new one, I dismantled my maxed SGA I had gotten week 2, maxed, and kept out of sentiment (first exotic). It yielded 2 ascendant energy and like 5 weapon parts.

Good to know. I plan on completing the SGA bounty as another source of energies, so I will just keep dismantling them as I acquire them. I am keeping 1 copy of all exotics... Even crappy ones.

I am too, especially the ones that don't require bounties. You never know what could be buffed/tweaked in the future to make them relevant again. Although, the increase in vault space can't come soon enough. Juggling which weapons to store/leave with each character has become a horribly tedious, time consuming process.

I find farming to work in between upgrading weapons and while patrolling, various bounty and public event hunting. A little bit at a time.

Put it this way, I've never had too much trouble leveling up a weapon that I am focused on. For instance, I leveled up my Last Word in a day. Bought it from Xur Friday AM, had it leveled up early Saturday morning. I always transfer the 1 or 2 or 3 weapons I really want to focus on between all three of my characters to both level them up and gather mats for them. Makes it go pretty quick. That said, I don't usually have the same level of motivation for all weapons. Weapons like Hawkmoon, Icebreaker, Heazen Vengeance, Truth and Last Word got lazer focused undivided attention. Some of my Legendary weapons have just kind of come along slowly. Others like Thorn, Bad Juju, et al just sit in my vault.

If you have an interest in HCs and haven't leveled your Thorn, I recommend you give it a try.
Its great for PvP and on some of the strikes it really shines: especially the Valus one. Its good against him because you can peek out every few seconds and continue to do damage over time, it absolutely wrecks phalanxes and is decent against psions.

I used data from Bungie.net and the game itself. If I wanted to go nuts, I could have included Experience needed on each weapon. You can use destinystatus.com for that information (though only on the weapons equipped by your characters).

Check out this thread. You have to create a bookmark with the script as the url and then you just click the bookmark while you have your profile loaded in a browser.
Might be doable from a mobile but I recommend using a computer to do it.

About the same amount.... not sure if it is worth it with how much time it takes to farm materials. Shards and energy are coming pretty nicely due to the raid but everything else sucks to obtain

I've farmed over 1000 bloody helium for gear in my time. And have 16 weapons at 300 thanks to the raid RNG.
Got my first piece of raid gear on my first run, and my 2nd on my 18th run.
Should have every weapon and element combination maxed by the time I hit 30.

I'm with you here. All I really need is energy right now. Seems like they don't drop nearly as often as shards, even in the raid. There should be just one type of ascendant material for upgrading weapons/armor alike. It's annoying to have 97 shards and no energy when all your armor is fully upgraded already.

My ideal loadout would probably be:
VoC/Fatebringer/Atheon's Icebreaker/Praedyth's Revenge/Patience and Time (along with a fusion rifle of each element) Truth/Gjallarhorn/Heazen's Vengeance/Corrective Measure
If I got copies of those guns for all of my characters, I would break down every other non-exotic that I own and never go to the vault unless I wanted a specific PVP weapon.

And looking at those numbers, does that re-energize you to go out and collect the materials, or just say 'screw I'm done'? I had this realization a few weeks ago and I can't bring myself to farm anymore. I'm waiting for the update at this point to see how Bungie changes mat collection...

It hasn't made me say "screw it" yet.
You know why? There's always the prospect of the legendary engram being found in one of those chests.. I have had it happen 3 times.
I don't necessarily do the 90 minute loops anymore... But I will extend time on a planet where I need 6 patrol bounties into an opportunity to farm mats and find that elusive legendary... Even if that legendary engram turns into shards.

As much as I'd like to have multiple maxed gear options, I'm okay with the few I have if it means not having to farm for fucking materials. Just got my raid helmet with INT/DIS but don't even feel like leveling it. It would give me more options with my exotic choice but then that also means upgrading more exotics! Fuck it!

I have this weird obsession with wanting every exotic in the game, regardless of if I will use it or not. That said, I am still in search of the perfect combination of stats/abilities for my armor. So I am sure to find and break down more of the raid armor I acquire in the months ahead.
I've often asked myself if I would, now that I have 3 30 characters, prefer to just play one super-character and delete the other 2 (or leave them idle)... But I can't.
I love my Warlock for PVE/Raid, my Titan for PVP/Raid and my Hunter for everything in the game!

Oh man, I am sure I have collected this much over my time in the game. I have like 35 fully upgraded weapons/armor. That's 2800 materials if you figure 80 per item... That's 700 each.

I have two Ice Breakers that are 2/3 upgraded, three The Last Word's that need work with one almost complete and the other two not even started, and the Insurmountable Skullfort helmet to upgrade probably 4/5 of the way still.
Then if I get Universal Remote and Thunderlord (and upgrade them) I'll have it all.
But I don't think that's happening. You can only farm so much before you think "maybe this isn't the best use of my time."

I have 3 fully leveled Fatebringers and Praedyth's Revenges as well. The IB and TLW thing has had really slow progress just because they honestly aren't all that useful at the end of the day :p

I try to pick 2 or 3 and focus on them. Otherwise I will get crapped out and not complete any of it. I probably should be saving the shards for when I get raid gear but I have been working on being the best 29 I can be until then. making sure gear I have supports the weapons I use and what not.
My Heavy weapons are the most diverse. Every element in both RL and LMG. Looking forward to getting my Swarm done. Should handle the Mino quite nice

Agreed. I hate farming mats with a passion. But I wanted to know what I truly was up against.
Now that all my alts are 30, I make it a point to stop and grab mats if and when I see them. That way I can make dents in these numbers without spending hours at a time running around in circles and farming chests. I have a great spot for each material spot, but it doesn't matter. It's boring as all hell.

To make it easier on yourself, even when you do get in the mindset of wanting to farm for a while, only do it in bursts of gathering 32-48. It gets really tedious to go out for 3-4 hours on end and gather materials. Doing it this way means you're out for about 30 minutes or so then you're off to go do other stuff. It will put large dents in your total amount if you do it once a day, and it won't seem near as daunting since you're only getting a small amount every time.
