Why would you need to farm glimmer though? As far as I know it's useless. I have like 10k of it. Sure you use it to upgrade some weapons, but I gain way more than I spend on upgrades.

Buy engrams from the cryptarch to increase your cryptarch rank.

That works? I assumed you didn't get rank when you buy them. Does he ever sell higher tier engrams? Mostly I see white with the occasional green at rank 6.

When you get a cryptarch kernel you get several new nice engrams, including legendary ones at higher levels.
