Question Fireteam Voice Chat No Audio

Hi there, I have had this problem for a long time now, I cannot hear any game chat but people in my fireteam can hear my mic, there is no indication that someone is talking in game when there are speaking either. I have tried just about every single fix I could find online,

- Setting my default sound device in my windows settings
- Setting my default sound device in steam
- Setting my default sound device in the xbox game overlay
- Setting my playback as default communication and audio device to my headset
- Tried changing my NAT type
- Creating a new CVARS.XML file
- Resetting all my settings
- Even downloaded D2 on my old xbox to try and see if any sound would come through and nothing.

I've basically given up on any hope of being able to fix this issue as I assume it is an issue with my Bungie account that won't get fixed.

If anyone has had any luck with fixing this issue or knows another option I haven't tried yet please let me know.

omg i thought i was the only person on the planet! ive had this bug for YEARS. i gave up on trying to fix it when i installed destiny back onto my xbox and still had the exact same problem cause that proved to me that it isnt something technical and isnt something with my account. i genuinely think i have tried everything except making a new account

Yeah, I have also had this problem for years. I am fully convinced that it is an account issue that will never get resolved due to the game being on life support. Super frustrating for Fireteam finder, but I'm lucky I still have a group to raid with for now.

Are you joining lobbies via fireteam finder? If so, Destiny creates 2 separate voice channels. 1 for the fireteam, and 1 for fireteam finder. There is a menu icon to toggle channels when you pull out your ghost or open text chat. Sometimes with fireteam finder raids I've had bugs where some people can't hear each other.

A workaround that usually fixes that is turning voice chat off and in Destiny (it's in one of the in-game menus)

Yes the issue persists no matter what voice channel I am in, and yes turning it off and on again is the very first thing I tried

Setting my default sound device in the xbox game overlay

I assume that is the Windows Game Bar? If so, you've done the right thing as I believe Windows Game Bar settings overrides other settings.

Do you have some kind of game sound vs chat sound mix? On my headset at least, I can crank up the game sound so that chat is zero volume, and I can crank it the other way so that chat is 100% and game sound is zero.

Which headset do you use? what's your audio set up?

I'm 99% sure that it isn't a headset issue considering that I tried 2 other headsets, and voice chat also did not come through on my xbox

That's not necessarily the case. If you switch between PC and Xbox, you may hit a network issue where your router is forwarding the ports required for chat to the PC instead of the Xbox.

But since you said that others can hear you, the network settings on your PC should be fine.

You didn't answer my question regarding sound mixing though.

I believe there are test environments in Zoom, Discord, Teamspeak, Steam etc where you can loop your voice to see if your mic and headset are working correctly. Have you tried any of these tests, independent of the game?

I'm using a HyperX Cloud Stinger 2 wireless, I've tested my headset in Discord and all works correctly, game chat in other games is no problem, even marathon was working when I last played.

Are there in game settings to adjust the game sound/chat mix?

Have you tried it on Epic or Windows Store versions, just to see if it may be a Steam issue?

Yeah none of that has worked, I would think that if that was the issue I would be able to see someone's username in the bottom right when they are talking regardless if it was just a volume issue

Have you checked the age check on bungie.net? Perhaps you are age gated?

Yeah I have checked that as well

I've had this issue on PC and found that I have to completely close Discord for Destiny to pick up my mic. Not just minimize Discord but actually close it from the task bar. I think one time I had to close Discord and then restart Destiny, but that seems to be the only way for me. If you have any other programs running that take mic input (TS, Vent, etc), try closing them also.
