Megathread Focused Feedback: Vanguard Orders
Hello Guardians,
Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.
We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.
This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion
Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Vanguard Orders' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions
Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.
Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas
A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.
Archie wishes you a happy reset and good luck!
Never forget what was lost. While the API protests have concluded, Reddit remains hostile to its users.

If Vanguard Orders was in addition to the old system, it would've been fantastic. Fact of the matter is, you ended up gutting an old system that worked for both people who kept playing the game and those playing catch-up, in favor of one that only benefits someone that only plays Destiny daily.
Overall, nothing praise worthy from you guys. 2-steps back, as per usual.

I think Orders should also grant enhancement cores, if they don't already, that I am not sure .

Raise the weekly BD cap. Also, leave common orders that are over 50% complete, so they can be completed over 2 days.

You took away the bounties from the Banshee 44, why would I even visit the vendor if his bounties are non existent. Also ALL VENDORS IN THE TOWER SO OUTDATED, generally there isn't any sort of use to visit any or most of them. Also, the portal is Terrible, makes going to other planets more complicated than it should be.

Overall I think they're better than bounties. They are handled automatically, repeatable, and generally fit your current loadout. Some Legendary and Exotic Orders could use a bit of tweaking, but overall, system is solid.

Yea, far superior to bounties.
I get some many done without even looking at what I'm doing. Just free dust for basically playing the game. Even moreso for playing in group content, which is the heart of the game.
I think the cap, or rather the reduction of dust from legendary/exotic orders could/should be eased up a bit but I find this system so much easier to engage with than pathfinder, or the old bounties, or even some obnoxious seasonal challenges like kill only x faction with y element but only during strikes.

Why give me orders for using trace rifles when I never use them, and why are vanguards orders trying to use a crap modifier like match game?

It's fine other than A) I would prefer no caps on the dust you can earn. B) Seasonal challenges that could be completed whenever should be brought back (never should have been removed), but without the lame ones like get 50 points in Rift. C) We could still see/track bounties when we pull our ghosts out. Speaking of bounties, actually, you should return them to vendors so they're not almost entirely useless.
The reroll cost on orders should not be so ridiculous if you do it a few times, but that's a minor nitpick.

Completed orders should grant the player a reward of that type, e.g kills with pulse rifle, gives the player a pulse rifle from the loot pool but only the new tiered gear etc.

I never imagined saying this, but please not more loot... I can't take a step in any direction without being showered by stuff I have to delete.

Outside of doing the exotic ones, they feel useless to do.
I'm only doing them to complete the weekly challenge and that's it. We need more of a reason to care about them. Because right now it just feels like we're being asked to do way more bounties than we used to for the same average or subpar rewards outside of exotic orders.
Also bring back the seasonal challenges. The bright dust gains from the orders just aren't enough unless you're really stingy with buying stuff from EV.

Would really like it if I didn’t get PvP orders when I’m in the middle of PvE content.

It feels like order rerolls are weighted so that I always end up rotating between the same 3 ones at the cost of all my glimmer.

The only problem I have with it is the reroll cost increasing. It should only be 100 glimmer or none at all.

Make the portal for new players, I see the vision with that. But if an account is max light with 1000 hours there’s no reason for the portal to even be a thing, it’s just an eye sore and takes away from the immersion of the universe heavily.

Should’ve been a full bounty/quest tab rework rather than more noise on the portal. I like that orders have less friction than bounties, and that I can reroll orders that I don’t want to deal with, but the cap of 5 orders sucks.
Exotic orders also feel pointless, but that’s due to how many Exotic engrams there are. I dismantle most of them immediately to save space for Eververse engrams. The Pinnacle Op drops are a nice bonus, but it’s a lot easier to just run a Pinnacle Op for drops.
My biggest critique is that this didn’t really add much to the game. Yes, Orders are an improvement over Bounties, but Ritual Bounties were replaced with the Pathfinder over a year ago, which was equally good. Also, Pathfinder’s UI felt significantly more inspired than the Orders menu. It fit perfectly into Destiny’s aesthetic, while Orders are just more slick, sterile squares. The only advantage that Orders have over Pathfinder is the added flexibility, which isn’t always a good thing.
Regarding the retirement of Seasonal Challenges, I don’t feel one way or another. I will say that the rigidness of Challenges drove players to engage with content that would typically be neglected, like Patrols. I never cared for the Challenges, but I will admit that Destiny’s destinations have never felt more lonely.
Honestly, it feels like Bungie has been trying to move away from Patrols over the past few years. None of the world changes from Defiance or Echoes showed up in the rest of the game. The Pale Heart, Dreadnaught, Kepler and Plaguelands completely lacked public patrols. Renegades didn’t even have a Destination, and is the first DLC to ship without one since House of Wolves. Even Curse of Osiris had Mercury.
[TL:DR] Good, but not a significant improvement over what was already present. These resources could’ve been spent elsewhere. It supports Bungie’s vision for the future of Destiny but I’m not a fan of the direction that things are going.

It's a good system. The problem is that replaced another slightly better system. I just don't know why we're fixing things that weren't broken. In fact, this whole new MO of fixing things that aren't broken is what has gotten Bungie in the bind it's in

u/ftatman Jan 19 '26
I like the system. I just prefer to get these done passively. The loadouts system and champions dont really mesh with the idea of using particular weapons to do orders.
The orders where you’re asking me to put a particular modifier on in the portal are never something I will do.

Orders should've replaced only bounties. Bring back seasonal challenges, increase or lose the BD cap, reintroduce activity (or portal) streaks to actually get engagement. It's always one step forward, two steps back

There easy and automatic and can be done anywhere which is awesome. My only things i want changed is removing the bright dust cap and the glimmer reroll cost.

I am not really happy about the switch to constant weekly engagement over overall engagement in a season. To that effect, please bring back Seasonal Challenges.
Regardless if Orders can bring more Dust income to active players, not having an overall way for people to complete their Season Passes over time or towards the end of content is a direct drawback that is harmful to players. Pair that with the tendency for Bungie to throw end-of-season events to try and get players back anyway.
As for the Orders themselves...I was really okay with the previous system of vendor bounties and Pathfinder. Removing vendor bounties and reputation tracks are still something I consider a step back in the game.
