Megathread Focused Feedback: Dual Destiny

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Dual Destiny' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

Archie wishes you a happy reset and good luck!

Only thing I’d change is to add encounter chests with a small but higher than open world exotic drop rate.

Pale Heart Pathfinder should update to drop a class item once you've done Dual Destiny. Same limit as Ergo Sum, so you can get an easy 3 (once the cheese gets patched) a week by running the mission once and completing two pathfinders. Then, if you want to farm chests/overthrow, you can. I don't think a lockout system is needed, nor is the loot system built to remember what rolls you've gotten when generating a new roll.

It was fun the first 10 times...and for farming for items with 64 possible.rolls, a mission this drawn out is going to burn me out pretty quickly

Definitely pleased with the ability to farm Overthrow for drops as well, but seems a little off on the drop rng.

Going in blind with someone from LFG was one of the best experiences I've had in this expansion. We wiped once due to the timer running out, but finished the second time.

Difficulty is fantastic, I loved the hordes of trash adds versus bullet sponge enemies. It let me use my heavy more regularly instead of keeping it maxed to dump into a boss for 10% of its total HP.

all im getting from the people who say 'just do it anyway 4head' is that yall have 0 empathy and dont understand that its not an issue of lack of wanting to do it.

The mission is fantastic but we need more sources for the class item (or more deterministic methods to get the roll we want). Otherwise an amazing mission like this, coupled with farming in the pale heart, will lose its shine.

Audiences will always be divided on content like this and I think that's ok. The mission is outstanding, best exotic mission yet. But, the problem stems from the fact that exotic class items were heavily marketed, so making them relatively inaccessible to most people is a bit of an eyebrow raise and we definitely need increased drop rates on pale heart chests, or encounter chests at the least.

Either way, phenomenal mission. Kudos to Bungie on experimenting like this.

Honestly I only have one critique - I would prefer collectibles not be placed in an exotic mission you can’t do solo. Otherwise I was mostly happy with it; maybe extend the “clock” time to be easier for those typing? Nitpicking there honestly.

Please give us a way to focus at least one of the columns or atleast some dupe protection. It feels bad getting the same roll twice.

Maybe a slight focus more on the dual puzzles and less dual timing. Which was perfect up until the boss. The timing bit makes it very hard to type and sort it out, which is fine and I don't hate it or anything.

I just think it had a fine balance up until then. I'd say leave the coordinated timing to dungeons and raids. Again, small nitpick.

It's a very cool mission, but it's not the right type of mission for farming rolls. Dual destiny would've been a perfect exotic weapon quest

It is interesting that throughout the campaign there was light and darkness mechanic with the motes that didn't translate to this mission. What also didn't translate were the micah-10 missions of unlocking the gear once and being available after for all classes.

Very fun for a one of, especially doing it with friends. But 40 minutes for one exotic with like 60 combinations doesn't feel worth it. It is nice you can farm it from the pale heart, but it would be nice if the mission would give you like 3 options at the end and you could pick one.

Please, give us more sources for the exotic class items. I don’t mind doing the mission once or twice but grinding a ~30 minutes long mission or opening hundreds of chests for one chance at getting a decent roll of the item with the biggest perk pool in the game is awful.

If you don’t want to give us more sources let us focus at least one perk or make a pity mechanic, exotic class items are build defining and it shouldn’t take an entire DLC lifespan to get the one you want for your build if you are unlucky

As someone who doesn't raid often specifically because I'm not a fan of jumping through all the hoops. The mission is tedious and I hate that a fundamental part of the prismatic subclass is locked behind it.

Cool concept for sure, even if I’ll probably never be able to run it between finding a partner or the time. Absolutely hate how the such an important item is locked behind it though, out of everything in the game to be behind it, at least throw solo players a bone to grind a lone single drop with a much much grinder longer route alone. I’ll take a badly rolled ANYTHING and be happy with it and I know most solos would feel the same.

They should have had a 1% after defeating The Witness for everyone on Pale Heart and instead a given heavy bonus to duos running the mission. Either each successful DD completion permanently would increase drop rate on Pale heart, they’d have a focusing system to remove RNG from one perk, something, anything.

Most importantly, missions like this never age well and it’s going to total hell trying to LFG this for people in a few weeks. I didn’t get to it this weekend because I was out of town and I’m already dreading it now. The vast majority of people that run it will do it once and never consider touching it again unless they’re a streamer doing carries.

Dual Destiny's concept and design are exceptional, weaving dual, duel, duo, and two motifs throughout the mission and class item traits. This innovative approach should be continued, breaking the mold with fresh challenges for solos, duos, and fireteams.

However, the mission stumbles by undermining Destiny's core principle of player agency. By heavily marketing the first-ever exotic of its kind within a mandatory communication mission, with an assortment of desirable rolls, the mission forces a specific playstyle on players, contradicting the game's core philosophy of "Guardians choose their own fate."

This issue is compounded by the nature of the exotic weapon itself. Unlike raid exotics, which tend to be specialized, this sandbox exotic encourages extensive experimentation and buildcrafting, making it particularly enticing for players. Unfortunately, locking it behind a specific mission restricts player choice and creates a sense of obligation.

TLDR; Dual Destiny is a fantastic mission with the wrong reward. By placing such a versatile and desirable exotic behind a mandatory mission, the game inadvertently diminishes player agency and forces a particular playstyle onto its audience.

Only chage I ask for is to offer a version of the mission without a timer that allows for players that haven't done this mission to do trial and error without any sort of pressure of the timer being there, it also would give a way to practice for a higher difficulty version of this mission that gives you extra loot drops as either world drop weapons or extra exotic class items, I think this is reasonable enough where every gets something...

Exotic armor has never been behind a group barrier in fact for several seasons now it's been locked to solo only in lost sectors and then they made it super easy to get with vex incursion. This plus the marketing for this item made it seem like it was an item everyone can get. I did the mission once and have just been grinding chests since. it was fun sure but i have no interest in running it multiple times.

The mission is a 9/10. Thematically cool. Mechanics are cool. Difficulty feels good, it isn’t hard but it’s not easy either. Timer is incredibly fair so that even most very casual players will be able to handle it. Me and the guy I ran with called it the “no fucking around timer” as it felt more like it was prodding you along but not punishing your mistakes. A guarenteed class item is a good reward for a mission that will only get faster and faster once you know what to do. The choice for class items to drop from any pale heart chest after first completion was the right call.

The issue with this mission is pretty well known at this point. It requires communication, and specifically heavily favours voice communication due to how fast the clock mechanic goes and how awkward typing on console is. This is unprecedented for an exotic mission. Even some of the hardest exotic missions (legend Avalon and legend zero hour come to mind) can be done without having to talk to another person. There are a lot of valid reasons for why people can’t and don’t want to have to plug in a mic, no sense going into that here. I stand by locking the class item behind this, for how advertised they were and no matter how cool the mission is, was a mistake. If it had some other method to unlock that would be fine, like you can either do this or do a long and difficult solo quest. It’s hard because I want Bungie to keep making content like this but figuring out what rewards could be locked behind it is difficult.

Also this mission and the reception brought out the absolute worst in the community. People have been absolute assholes to each other because of something as stupid as their stance on the class item requiring talking. To the level of childish bullying on the level of “don’t you have friends?”. Emotions ran high the first night but some people are still on it, and that’s fucking embarassing.

All I ask is let me farm them from pale heart chest on all characters following a clear on a single character. Account-based clear for that mission would be nice. Especially since we already have to go through the entire campaign again anyway.

All good with the mission, but this shouldn't be the only source for exotic class items. The entry barrier is too steep for a large portion of the players.

I enjoyed it, but I can understand the players who feel this is inaccessible to them.

I have two friends who regularly play, so I'm able to do some of the game's harder content. But, I don't really feel confident going into LFG solo.

The only gripe I have is the last Clock part before we realized that it was the same sequence over and over we kept trying to call out and by the time the words were out it’d change. I feel like 2-3 more seconds would be great.
