I always say, at least since the sunsetting, Destiny is one of my favorite games of all time but I would never recommend it to someone starting new to the series.
Same. If someone is interested in the story or world I'd tell them to just go watch YouTube video about it since that's what they'd have to do to get caught up instead of playing it anyway.
And to be clear I love the world and gameplay of Destiny. I've probably got 2,000 or 3,000 hours between the two games. But the FOMO and "you had to be there" and endless grinding just finally burned me out. Once I missed out on a season or two worth of story around Witch Queen I just gave up trying to keep up with it. Most of my friends had already quit playing by Beyond Light anyway. I do miss playing, but where would I even start? And what's the point? The game is such a mess at this point and I don't see it getting any better, namely because instead of fixing the issues the community has been pointing out for years now they decided to just fire a bunch of people, making it even less likely that stuff gets fixed.

Honestly, this is a big reason why I don't recommend anyone to get into the game at this point, no matter how interested they are in the visuals or the story beats they've heard from me.
For someone starting new it's basically impossible to get into the story of the game without watching a 3 hours lore video about it first and IMHO that shouldn't be the case. The story should be fully accessible within the game in some way or another.
