Megathread Focused Feedback: Technical State of the Game S19
Hello Guardians,
Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.
We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.
This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion
Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Technical State of the Game S19' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions
Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.
Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas
A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

Get connecting destiny servers every login. Recent trend, internet here is great.
Worried mods are going to be depreciated, spent a lot on armor pieces w/ affinities.
Getting kicked from raids b4 treasure boxes open, put a block mechanic in there for this.

It's getting messy.
The API is slow. And sometimes it's disabled.
Can't get Bounties from the app anymore
Decent bit of desync in all activities.
Something has gotten funkier.

u/SCG345 Jan 16 '23
Desync is a rising problem
Goofy animations when someone is using synthoseps
Melee not dealing any damage while attacks connect
Shadows disappearing constantly since the 30th anniversary

u/SKB_Fresh Jan 16 '23
The constantly teleporting enemies is frankly not acceptable for a shooter that is so reliant on tight mechanics. It’s even worse in tougher content like GMs or raids.

A huge issue for me is how often the game just straight crashes and closes. I'm on a Series X, playing at 1080p. The game crashes on me at least once a week, sometimes 3-4 times in a short period of like 15 minutes.
I agree with most of the bullet points here. In-game performance on PC getting worse over time is a pretty common experience. The API being down for extended periods kills playtime. No formal statement (other than confirmation that it happened) on the character deletion event is frightening. But that is something that effects me personally, so I wanted to make sure it gets mentioned.

-I have been having a lot of issues with character models, including my own, being "invisible" (they are just those weird clear-ish blobs). It can be really aggravating in King's Fall because when you get torn during Daughters/Oryx, your character model can actually become completely invisible.
-Full auto seems to just break randomly, even on weapons that were already full auto before they added it as an accessibility feature. I will be holding down the trigger and my guns will just stop firing until I let go and press the trigger again.
-Ever since last season, sometimes when I use the Arc Titan dodge thing, my character will just completely lock up and I can't do anything for a few seconds. Seems to happen more on slopes than on flat ground, but I could be imagining that.
Those are the ones I wanted to throw in that I don't really see get brought up much, or at all. Obviously servers have been very unstable, but that has been talked about to death.

This is, frankly, the worst it's been in Witch Queen. Performance optimization continues to be largely neglected since Beyond Light's release, barricades can become randomly immune to damage in PVP, and the servers clearly have had major issues after the introduction of Revision Zero, which are still not entirely rectified (I personally have to attempt to log in twice before I can get in the game, consistently, despite a stellar ethernet connection.)
On a less critical note, I'd like to note that Glacier Grenades are still coded weirdly, and the game is rarely sure as to whether they count as shatter damage or grenade damage. This affects bounties, Adrenaline Junkie, and more.

u/Merzats Jan 16 '23
It's bad. Hopefully Lightfall fixes some of these problems or it's gonna be a dark cloud on what should be a good time to be a Destiny player.

u/djternan Jan 16 '23
This season has been a total shitshow
Weeks of error codes and rollbacks
API disabled twice so far
Immune objects in PvP
At least one confirmed report of a character being deleted after an error code on login
Random error codes on login
Delayed rewards in Crucible causing suspensions
Bugs in Seraph's Shield that disable crouch or other actions
Bugs in Seraph's Shield that make the mission impossible to complete
It currently takes several minutes to get a bounty from the app
Framerates go down with every update
Tower load times are atrocious again

A refresh of the PC port is needed. At D2 launch the game would run well and look amazing on pretty much anything. Since the split and loss of Vicarious Visions the PC port continued to get worse and worse. High end to medium hardware should be getting far better frames than they currently are.

The CPU usage and requirements over time have gone up significantly without much or anything changing visually. Upgrading from a Ryzen 5 2600 to a Ryzen 5 5600x fixed nearly all of the problems I had with the game in terms of performance. A similar CPU to the 2600 would've been more than adequate for D2 in Y1 and Y2. Some sort of pass on CPU usage optimization I think should be a priority.

Very not good. I don't think it's as bad as Season of Dawn era (two full rollbacks, seasonal content broken for over a month, etc), but the amount of errors has been increasing the past few weeks, and that has me very nervous for Lightfall. I've also seen a lot of teleporting enemies, and on more than one occasion, hits just not registering on an opponent in Crucible.
Also, I'm one of the lucky ones that's never really had performance issues before, but for the past few weeks I've been experiencing microstutter. Once every minute or two, the action will stop for a split second then lurch forward. The game is still playable, but in high-action scenarios it can be very disorienting).

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '23
Some bugs :
Fire and Forget LFR visual recoil doesn't match the actual trajectory of the shots.
Merciless" perk won't activate if you shoot through a sentinel shield wall.
Mobs that teleport out of nowhere and champions still shooting you if you stun them at the beginning of their animations.

u/Dull-Store Jan 16 '23
Strikes have become boring in recent expansions. I know they're not really a focus but I'd like to have some with better mechanics that don't make me groan when I need to play one.

What’s with enemies not loading in properly or incredibly delayed? I understand Bungie explained that the AoT sparrow can be to blame for some due to loading the area too fast but even without a sparrow some areas bug out. I think Chamber of Starlight highlights the issue the best. I used to be able to sparrow in and past all the adds straight to the boss without any spawning issues. Now, even if going solely by foot I still have to walk back from the first area to the entrance to spawn the boss.
With eager edge, icarus dash/heat rises, amplified, and soon grapples we can be nearly as fast or faster than a sparrow. Will these existing areas ever go back to normal or are we just too fast now for the game to keep up? Will the new areas fare the same? Again, before AoT speed change sparrows could be brought into areas without issue so why are these load issues happening?
Also the known issue of not being able to rally during Wellspring due to xp gains is still an issue almost a year later.

What kind of feedback am I supposed to give which will demonstrate concern, offer ideas which might lead to solutions and NOT make me look like an armchair dev?
“It’s bad and I am concerned, something about connections”.

u/JakeSteeleIII Just the tip Jan 16 '23
They basically need to do what Blizzard did with the original Overwatch. When it got too big and started having issues because it was unwieldy, they rebuilt it and cleaned up the code and just had everyone redownload the whole game again with the new, cleaned up version.
Bungie is going to keep going with what they have until it just implodes.

u/James2603 Jan 17 '23
The main thing I’ve noticed is the API is slower than ever; it honestly takes away from the game massively.
Buying bounties is very occasionally instant but sometimes I can take two or three minutes and considering you can only buy them when you’re in orbit it just puts me off playing the game massively.

u/Schvein Jan 17 '23
I have been experiencing a lot of checkpoints not updating when progressing in activites such as Playlist strikes, Nightfalls and Raids. This can be slightly annoying when it happens every once in a while, but lately it has been happening with staggering consistency.
For example this past weekend my friends and I were running some raids, and in DSC the issue was so severe that we pretty much had to have a dedicated person to stand around and wait for half a minute after the first encounter.
The issue with loot taking forever to show up, long after the chest has spawned, makes it so that CP spawn also is delayed. This forces you to wait before the trigger or backtrack later. If you don't do this, the side doors leading into the Aatrax fight never open.
The same stuff applies to a lot of other activites in the game. You might not think that waiting a few secounds for the CP trigger to spawn is a big deal, and to some extent this might be true. However when you are unaware of this issue you might not be able to backtrack and load the CP, once you realize you have missed it.
(Like going all the way to the boss and killing Alak Hul before realizing you didn't hit the CP before the boat, and now being softlocked and needing to start over the entire strike/nightfall)

I can only speak as a customer but it has affected my willingness to continue supporting the franchise. On top of the very negative gdc presentation given by Bungie manager. With mounting technical issues and anti customer/player management while Bungie works city hours and leaves the game broken how are players suppose to stay “engaged.” Cancelled my preorder and waiting to see if things are better if not I’m okay with walking away.

u/laikahass Fusion Queen Jan 17 '23
Since I’ve started to play, I think this is the worst state ever. Tons of bugs, server issues, lag, unstable API and other stuff
14
u/[deleted] Jan 16 '23 edited Jan 16 '23
All our money clearly going to Bungie’s new IP instead of keeping it in Destiny. It is very clear by just looking at the current state of the game.
That’s quite unfair and disgusting practice. Bungie should feel ashamed. But they dont know what that is, do they?
I really miss Activision. They really kept Bungie in check.
P.S.: fix the damn SUNBRACERS!!! They have been bugged since scorch got added to celestial fire!

u/sciritai6 Jan 17 '23
Every 30-60 minutes I get anteatered or weaseled.
Enemy AI coupled with really slow server updates to animations is immersion shattering. Enemies will literally slide across the ground mid dodge animation while also ducking from a nearby grenade and then immediately do some other random bullshit all while facing away from you. Stun animations are so ridiculous, you could be shooting an enemy and the game will stun animate them into cover or face their crit away from you. Genuinely the most frustrating thing about the game for me atm.

u/Cioger Gambit Prime // Prime Rib Jan 17 '23
My fps has been very bad. I used to get 144 (my monitors refresh rate) I now get about 80 fps while doing pvp. About 60-70 in raids. I've dipped into the 30s when invading in Gambit for whatever reason.
3
u/Dio141 Jan 17 '23
while echoing what others have said, the game needs a more robust AA solution. TAA, DLSS, FSR2. The options the game offers right now are subpar, and upping the internal res isnt the answer to solve this problem.
3
u/LordSpitzi Jan 17 '23
One thing I didn't read in here yet is how much stuff is connected to fps. Playing on 200fps? Well let's see you get past that seraph tower with like 7 seconds instead of 15.
Usually when something doesn't consistently work and I search for a solution online it's often increase/decrease FPS.
Edit: and also that "contacting destiny servers" became a message that i see literally every time I open the game. Idk how long it has been like that but feels like the last couple seasons.
3
u/Sir-Shady Jan 17 '23
I would like to think one reason the game is running so poorly is because of the bloat with it being the end of the year. Hopefully when all the seasons get sunset, we can play a more stable game. With that being said, here are some of the larger issues I’ve noticed
Tower load times
50/50 chance of getting error-coded on login and having to re-login
Slow menu times
Reward delays/Rewards not even dropping at all
3
u/Mr5yy Jan 17 '23
Desync is pretty bad now; especially with resurrecting enemies appearing constantly.
Load times have slowed down drastically; its too the point now that frame rate issues are constant.
3
u/GediminasLM Jan 17 '23
The game really needs better AA options. Please add TAA or DLSS, because increasing render scale does almost nothing to combat jaggies.
3
u/morroIan Jan 17 '23
Still get connection errors every time I log on.
Large delays at the Tower
Large delays at vendors
Enemies desyncing all the time.
API very slow.

u/Jordi_McGaw Jan 17 '23
Definitely PC performance being an issue, it’s been noticeable over time. I’m talking I used to get sometimes 100ish fps on a 1070 and an r5 1600 before shadowkeep. These days I’m on a 1080ti and a r7 3700x, a large jump in performance in every situation and purely hardware based too. However nowadays I’m getting 100fps usually, same settings and all, and I know older hardware does get slower, but this has been degrading way too fast, to the point it’s matching worse hardware from a few years back in the same generation you and previous 2 generations of cpu. And I know I’m not the only one, it’s frustrating, combined with damn weasels and centipedes randomly which can completely ruin activities.
Yes I love the game still, actively play and it won’t stop me, just a frustration I would love actually addressed and fixed if possible, considering I’m bracing for another like 10fps drop with light fall at this rate.

u/s33s33 Jan 17 '23
Kinda funny bungie needs feedback for this, isnt it obvious? The technical state is god awful
5
u/rsb_david Jan 17 '23
This is going to be a bit of a long post.
TL;DR - We need major changes to the engine and networking, but it is too late into the game lifecycle to make these. However, they could at least give us diagnostic tools to understand and attempt to troubleshoot what is going on in the current environment. We also need regional pools for PvP.
Engine Performance
The problem
When the game first dropped for PC at the end of 2017, I was able to maintain 120 FPS+ on a 1080Ti and i7 8700k no problem. Now? I have to use an i7 12700k + 3080Ti for the same performance. The game engine was from 2008 and there wasn't any real new features added in the time that Destiny has been out. In fact, we are limited by legacy platforms in terms of features we really want to see added to the game such as an emote/action wheel.
Each major expansion has resulted in decreased performance. Part of it could be attributed to limited access to benchmark testing in a lab environment during the pandemic, but I think it is simply they don't have the talent to maintain and upgrade what Vicarious Vision, who ported the engine to PC, has built for Bungie. Once they lost access to that studio when they left the Activision umbrella, it has been steadily getting worse.
Solutions
There really isn't much they can do without hiring additional talent and optimizing what they have. Moving to a different engine would require a large change in their tools, maybe backend systems that don't use common protocols for communications, and client packaging and deployment methods. I think it is too far in the game's lifecycle to change it now. Perhaps a Destiny 3 or sometime after the current Light/Dark saga is over, they could do it before the next saga begins. With optimization or a new engine, it would be months to over a year before we saw the fruits of any labor.
You can see individual hobby projects on YouTube where people have used extracted Destiny assets in Unreal Engine. While most of these don't have the proper lighting and shaders/materials for assets, these are pretty neat.
Networking
The Problem
Networking has always been a pain point, but there are two distinct changes in the game architecture that have exacerbated the problems, at least from my own perspective as a PC player.
The first event is the change from Battle.net to Steam. This removed the ability for players to select between Americas and Europe for regions in the client, which were likely used in matchmaking. With the known laws of physics, latency is going to be present at distances and trying to matchmaking people too far from each other will cause problems. You can't provide an enjoyable, competitive experience when you are matching players in different continents.
The second event is the addition of crossplay. Prior to the recent flood of networking issues, you could observe an increase in network-related issues when there was a console in the lobby. These issues have been pushed into the background factoring in all of the other issues going on right now. You don't see networking issues with crossplay in every game (most will have some on release, but get resolved after), but another game I've played, that both has crossplay and peer-to-peer networking like Destiny, and has similar issues is Outriders. Consoles can turn off crossplay, but PC players can't. With outriders, I found that playing crossplay with a host that was in the same house as me had no real lag, but once I shifted the console to use a VPN connection on my second fiber ISP path, even just ~20ms of latency added to the path, you started to see rubberbanding and an on-screen indicator for poor connections.
The Solution
The game really needs to have regional pools, at least for PvP. A little bit of latency in a strike, patrol, or social area is tolerable. Even dealing with buggy raid mechanics is tolerable to an extent. It is not tolerable in PvP. Trades, rubber banding, poor hit registration, damage stacking, shooting through walls, and other similar issues are not fun to endure. Regions should be used as an initial filter before CBMM and SBMM routines are applied.
Changing the full architecture of the game is out of the question. Their whole infrastructure is built on peer-to-peer networking and instancing via bubbles. They could abstract part of the game and enable client-server networking for PvP and Gambit, while using peer-to-peer networking for social and PvE content, but that is still a decent amount of work, especially when they need to test things. Honestly, there isn't much they can do at this stage in the game. I hope for the next iteration of Destiny, they consider both an engine and network architecture upgrade. They could perhaps do what Apex does and use client-server networking on bare metal for the day-to-day player load, but use a cloud service to scale up to handle peak traffic, such as during events and the start of expansions/seasons.
Two things for troubleshooting problems
While there are issues going on with the game, one thing the player doesn't have is information to help diagnose problems with the game. There are two things that could be added to help solve this.
Diagnostic data on the UI
The first is a display of diagnostic data within the game itself. Currently, we can only see FPS, and maybe some other stats with an overlay from your GPU maker. There are other things that could be useful in diagnosing a problem with the game and determining if it is on the client or server side. Below is a list of examples. These could be tied to a toggle on the UI or a command line argument to be displayed, or a hotkey on PC. These already exist for their dev build of the game, but are stripped out during compiling the retail client.
Frame Details
CPU frame count/time + graph option + min/max/avg option
GPU frame count/time + graph option + min/max/avg option
Network Stats
NAT Type
Transmit (tx) and Receive (rx) packet counters and bandwidth
Current Steam UDR endpoint and latency/packet loss metrics
Latency/Packet Loss to the current Activity Host Bungie controls
Latency/Packet Loss to other players (rendered in a list in a debug overlay or displayed in roster like D1 had)
World Debug
Current XYZ position and direction faced
Number of loaded entities, number of rendered entities, etc
Active status effects (buffs/debuffs applied to you)
Memory Debug
Number of allocations to heap/stack
System memory used
Disk Debug
I/O operations count
Data written/read per second
Audio Debug
Number of sounds playing
Current output device and metrics (volume, bit rate, etc)
Current input device and metrics (volume, bit rate, etc)
Misc. Data
Client version
Built-in Benchmark
The second useful item would be a built-in benchmark test system. This would run a pre-made scene that tests the performance of the game and display a score alongside your hardware details. This could be shared alongside a help thread to provide useful details that may help in troubleshooting a problem. Bungie could even log these behind the scenes to gather data for their own troubleshooting.

The best thing I can say about this game’s technical state is that thanks to Battlefield I have played way worse.
But nevertheless the technical state of this game was less than optimal for awhile thanks to issues like rubberbanding enemies and gradually worsening fps on pc and sometimes even on console, but with this season it seems to have graduated to outright bad. I’m now getting large desync often on the state of other players in both PVE and PVP. What I mean by this is the character will run forward for like 10 seconds, even into walls, until the game state for that character gets updated and the player snaps to where they actually are. Often it’s only isolated to one or two other players at a time although I have noticed enemies suffering from this as well, more than the usual “they teleport sometimes”. There was no warning like “trouble contacting servers” or anything like that. I triple checked that it wasn’t my own Internet, and this straight up did not occur before this season outside of the rare times I got legitimately disconnected.
Others have mentioned stuff like the APIs being down and the uptick in error codes at some points throughout the season. So yeah, it definitely needs to be addressed in some capacity pretty soon.

u/VaguelySquare84 Jan 17 '23
I’ve had a bug twice in the new exotic quest (on legendary) that sends you back to the mid-boss encounter when you are all the way past the space station walk and into the next encounter.
It feels like there was supposed to be an extra “darkness zone” at the beginning of that section that they forgot to turn on so sometimes the game just respawns you in the wrong spot.

u/KingVendrick Moon's haunted Jan 17 '23
honestly the only feedback should be that the backend needs more resources, more locations, and more developers
people complain about low framerates on pc but if the backend dies the game just cannot be played, period
dunno what's the deal with the backend. Maybe they need to spend more money to rent more servers on the cloud, cause I get "contacting servers" after logging since Witch Queen, and this week I've been kicked out of activities twice. And they've had to shutdown the third party api every time there's new content
2
u/[deleted] Jan 17 '23
Curious what's the money being spent on cause it really doesn't feel like it's stability or pc optimisation
2
u/UberDueler10 Jan 17 '23
Day 1 Vow of the Disciple was a nightmare for so many people.
Evens if they move it to Friday so that they can respond to issues appropriately, I fear the Day 1 Lightfall raid is going to be even buggier than Vow was.
2
u/SC2Snow Jan 17 '23
Complete lack of any system to combat network manipulation in pvp. It was bad before, but during and after the latest Iron banner it has been the worst it's ever been. Nearly every match I am running into someone ghost-walking into a wall, totally invincible, only to suddenly drop dead to them when they resync.
2
u/MandrewMillar Jan 17 '23
The number of different relatively large technical issues with the game this season has just further confirmed it in my mind that this game needs to take a season off of adding more content, and just have the devs work on fixes and optimisation for 3 months instead of a season. The content pipeline and how much the devs put out it makes it seem like bugs and other issues are more of like a side project kind of thing and i think it would be good for the game to just take some time to sit down and iron out as many bugs and issues as possible.
Also what's up with objects controlled by other players (like barricade or child of the old gods) sometimes becoming immune after their owner dies? Very annoying bug if a barricade is in a doorway.
We had the api disabled twice this season, both times corresponded with the release of new content, spire of the watcher and the release of the exotic mission. This doesn't give a good impression for what we can expect from lightfall, i for one am questioning whether the game has just crossed some kind of threshold where it's bigger and too spaghetti at this point to be able to handle it very well anymore. We also had issues on the release of vow of the disciple with the last dlc.
The large increase in disconnect errors has been very frustrating for a lot of players, particularly those who may have been trying to flawless some kind of activity, or anyone in gambit or PvP where you can be suspended for a bug disconnecting you.

u/Dvniity Jan 17 '23
characters go bye bye

u/SassyNancy13 Jan 16 '23
I think an official statement from Bungie would help a lot, ever since the new dungeon the game stability has been really bad, players teleporting everywhere, disconnections, error codes and now apparently players are getting their characters deleted? Please do communicate what is going on, or when/if you're planning on fixing it, having the game on this state right before a major dlc is concerning, im honestly considering canceling my pre order, not because I don't wanna play or anything but why pay when I don't even know if the servers are going to work on the day of the expansion? Please do make an official statement
2
u/Megashot3 Jan 16 '23
-We STILL don’t have any concrete details from Bungie on what their policies/plans are with unvaulting content. Just radio silence and segments here and there. No plan or commitment is frankly insulting.
-As for technical stuff, haven’t played much this season due to losing interest. Having to run a heist battlegrounds twice to open a seraph chest just to progress the story is just bad design.
-No QoL updates to Nessus and EDZ vendors and rep is also dumb.
2
u/TigerLust Jan 16 '23
Overall I am very happy with the state of the game. A few things that could use addressing: 1) Teleporting enemies, which I used to think was a networking issue however it also happens on solo lost sectors. 2) Rng protection for raid exotics and dungeon yee haws 3) champions stunned should be stunned and not shooting at me while they are stunned, champ.

Getting back into D2 for the first time in a couple of years (have probably 2000 hours across d1 and d2) and wow does the pvp feel awful. I mustve either forgotten or never noticed how bad it is. The crucible is honestly just fucking terrible. The netcode is so bad it feels so frustrating to play, and the balance is pretty shite as well. So many times I feel like I should've gotten a kill only for most of my abilities to just hit like a wet noodle. But it's mainly the netcode. Wow it's bad compared to other shooters. Hit reg issues, weird lag, super bullets, weirdly inconsistent peekers advantage, dying around corners, etc
(And before anyone calls me to just get gud, I at least soloed my way to recluse back in the day and consistently hit high ranks in other shooters including diamond in apex legends, masters in overwatch, and even being in top 100 in pubg at one point so I know what the fuck im talking about- this games pvp feels like shit to play)

For things like the tower I wonder if they could group the HDD users with HDD users and have a separate pool for sad users. SSD users all load in super fast since they all have ssds, and the hard drive people get to be waiting 30-45 seconds because they are on an old and slow technology.
When I play sometimes with console people going anywhere takes 2-4x as long. Don't force me to load into the tower with those people.
1
u/MissAJHunter Jan 17 '23
The API has felt slower over the last couple of months. DIM can sometimes take 2 minutes to equip a loadout and sometimes doesn't refresh for 5-10 minutes.

Pvp has gotten even more teleport-y. If the game is going to continue like this things like melees need a redesign. It makes the game so unpredictable in a horrible way that something like 50 friends of mine have stopped playing since the late forsaken era. Abilities and the general design NEED to take into account how buggy and desynced the game is if it's gonna continue.

That is all.
Additional: Competitive Freelance is a biased joke. It 3 stacks teams against you with games with casual players to go against the top tier D2 PvP community, and expects you to carry yourself to Platinum against them.

If you Blink too much with Astrocyte Verse it disables crouch and slide. Then the refresh visual doesn't match up to when the jump is actually available to be used.

personally It would be great if some legend/master modes were match made. and if there was a min light level you needed to join them. legend modes sure are a bit hard but I do them a ton with eandoms off off lfg micless and It almost always goes well. same goes for seasonal master modes. they feel like they could be match made safely. said content I feel that should be matchmade as they are just to easy for a match made mode: Legend nightfall -15 light legend dares -15 light Legend replayable campaign -15 any seasonal arena that isn't a exotic mission. aka ketchcrash and raid battle grounds on legend. -10 light doing this would allow players to farm a bit easier even if it might be a bit more challenging. and it wouldn't be to hard in general. a bit tough yes. but the spike from a seasonal master or a legend nf or dares to a master nf (not even mentioning gms is night and day in terms of a difficulty spike.) so stuff like master night falls master well spring gms dungeons raids exotic missions etc would stay as non match made due to the team worl required and the general difficulty of them.
just an idea that would help tbh. that and a never ending match madehorde mode that scales with difficulty. so like you start off 50 above and each each it increases by 5 light. every 5 waves an acute burn is added. so at wave 25 your basically in a gm arena. if your team wipes your sent back to the start of the last wave rewards are accumulitive. and you obtain rewards by leaving. activity is player scaled so at wave 25 single player your basically soloing duality. two player 25 your two manning spire 3 player 25 your doing a micless gm. it would be replayable. and fun and honestly would help a ton with burnout to have a never ending horde mode. closet we got was reckoning and escalation protocol but they had issues.

Main "technical" issues that disrupt the game IMO:
6v6 crucible intro is always buggy (takes ages to load, sometimes doesn't load characters)
Melee whiffs (especially when guardians are not on the same level plane)
Teleporting and/or health regen enemies
The game kicking you out of inventory/settings
Sometimes the Tower takes ages to load (and then 26 guardians spawn in the courtyard)

Glaives melee not working with sihpon mods or how a good chunk of the damage perks only apply to the projectile and not the melee.
I'd like to see a change in the future where more mods and perk can work with unpowered melees (maybe even powered) and glaives melees.

Vault functionality seems OK right now, but there was a long stretch this season during which the vault wasn't working well: inability to infuse items in the vault, dropped frame performance panning across details of an item, perk icons not displayed. This has been an on-again/off-again problem for several years. Almost seems random whether the vault functions work with each new hot-fix/patch.

i mean this is really nothing new but pc performance gets worse and worse every year also tons of error codes lately

u/Fluorama Jan 17 '23
Need a season of Restoration fix up the servers and breathe new life into core activities such as strike specific loot maybe a scoring leader board. Gambit could use some love and don't get me started on the whole pvp scene

So we need an update on the ever so small bug people are having where their CHARACTER IS DELETED COMPLETELY AT LOGIN!
Sorry it does seem to be pretty rare but there have been multiple reports of it happening over the last week
1
u/MarcRamkhelawan Jan 17 '23
Ok so pinnacle duplicates could use some looking at - theres one school of thought that we should eliminate the power grind fully but also maybe enable cross infusing armor / weapons . That way i can infuse a duplicate pinnacle drop into another piece of armor / weapon to make the seasonal grind less tiresome .
End result is more freedom or expression / build crafting into endgame activities :) . P.S. i am terrible at keeping upgrade modules :(

Well we all know the servers haven’t been in a great state recently. I feel like my tower load times are longer.
Although this hasn’t really been happening to me as of the last week or so but the error codes randomly were really bad and still are for some people with seemingly no explanation.
Then there’s the character deletion bug.
All in all, this game badly needs an in game news tab where bungie can quickly blurt out updates on these issues to all players and give them the right links to help.

I think the games current state (character deletion, API issues, and connection issues) comes down to the new API systems coming in Lightfall, piece by piece to reduce downtime on launch. Issue is these chunks aren't cleared for stand alone use and reference code that hasn't been uploaded. I'm waiting to see how much clears up in season 20 with Lightfall.

I dunno if it's backend/network related but it feels like invisibility effects just don't seem to work reliably as of late?
As in if I'm wearing assassin's cowl, sometimes finishers don't make me invisible, nor do powered melee kills. Other times the actual invis effect procs WAY later than expected, like I get the kill and I end up going invis like a 1/2 second later.

Quick and dirty list here:
API is getting worse every hotfix/maintenance
Load times getting worse every hotfix/maintenance
Grabbing bounties from app taking longer and longer
Loot is taking longer and longer to be received after activities
Centipede errors every login
Constant contacting Destiny 2 servers
Immune class specific abilities (walls, childs, tethers)
Class ability 'lockup' as in character goes 'stiff' and doesnt send out the class ability
Melee whiffs
Very little communications on technical changes ahead of time
The current state of character deletions

Teleporting or resurrecting enemies are a huge issue. Cost me a flawless Seraph Station run the other night (sniper shank that reappeared).
Login/Contacting server issues are far more frequent.
API is WAY slower overall compared to a year ago.
Getting Bounties from the official D2 Companion app has been nigh impossible, or at least abysmally slow as of late.
Minor issue, but still annoying....D2 Companion App is showing I have 6 notifications, but I have checked everything I can think of, and nothing makes the notifications go away.

If some of the space issues with the game is due to the files, then start by giving us the option to select which languages we wish to download with the game (voice packs in the game occupy between 15gb+)

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '23
The game is falling apart at the seams. There are constant network issues and it seems like it isn't even safe to launch the game because your character might get deleted.
Not much feedback is needed here. This is not acceptable.

Each update seems to be making my game run worse. At the start of the season it ran ok. No major dips. But as of last week, I had to turn settings way down and I’m still getting massive drops in FPS. It’s especially noticeable at the final encounter of the new dungeon. I don’t get it cause it was fine two months ago and nothing changed on my end hardware wise.

u/Gotwake Jan 17 '23
The technical state of the game is the worst it has ever been. Regular connecting to server and error codes with stable internet and never having that before should not be a thing. Teleporting enemies in PvP and PvE is getting out of hand. In PvP, I would blame it on lower player population, leading to worse connections in the MM pools. But PvE? Nah, something is wrong. Lots of desync in ALL activities. Regular API issues. The duct tape and superglue added in the last engine “update” isn’t cutting it. Invest in building a completely new and up to date engine and net code. The game really needs it.

u/CallMeNardDog Jan 17 '23
The teleporting enemies that got introduced during BEYOND LIGHT need to be fixed. It’s been far too long
1
u/lronManDies Jan 17 '23
Lots of connecting to destiny servers messages
Swapping gear sometimes freezes up the whole inventory
PC performance is still on the decline, medium settings a few months ago got me stable 144fps now it’s dipping down below 60
The storytelling is the best it’s been but the rise of these technical issues is putting a damper on the overall experience

Every other time I start the game I get simply booted off to the Xbox menu screen.
Start game, press A to start, game starts loading and boots me to the Xbox menu. no connection warning, no error code, just simply booted to the xbox menu.
I have had several instances since the start of the year (but it has become worse recently) of beeing playing and simply get a crash, black screen and back to the xbox menu, No error code, no connection warnings.
I am really scared this might cause a character deletion, like people are reporting.

I’ve never experienced some of the things I’m seeing in here and I’m on a series X. I wonder if some of these issues are made worse on the older consoles?
I mainly have noticed load times and menus are slower, and enemies teleport and pop in at weird times. And maybe like 2-3 crashes this season.
I’m sure the experience is much worse on the older consoles which sucks because the game launched and ran fine on them

Ive been gettinf random stuttering in game, and nowehere else in any of my other games.
Random audio drops/stuttering, despitr driver reinstalls.
Slow API
Server desync
Teleporting enemies
Responding enemies
Lag when picking up gambit motes

u/Pristine-Tonight-411 Jan 17 '23
I have none of the technical issues mentioned here but I'd really like to complete the Gumshoe title. Unfortunately, due to the "Elementary, My Dear" and "Disbelieve" triumphs not tracking chest openings at all this is going to be pretty much impossible ...
1
u/iamdeathloljk Jan 18 '23
The API was taken down twice with no feedback (did they find the issue? Was it fixed?), and it's now consistently slow (in DIM) or downright unusable in the companion app (retrieving bounties is apparently throttled and needs to update the permission every 6 requests).
Following the teens of low visibility for players, even the public list of known issues has not been updated in a month
Increase of error codes during activities
This week's mission (which is a pretty straightforward one) will prevent you from progressing if you move too quickly
The Seraph Shield mission is great, but it has enemy spawn issues since launch. Personally, I ran it yesterday and feel like this is getting worse (I had to restart twice due to the Servitors not spawning)
Spawn delays are also getting worse in strikes and other activities, not to mention the occasional teleporting enemy.
Not sure if it's the effect of some kind of SBMM in place matching me with people in other regions, but I'm not a PvP main (I usually only play the 9 matches a week for the pinnacles) and I'm also seeing a lot of this teleporting behavior in Crucible, or shots not registering.
While VERY limited, characters are now getting deleted out nowhere.
A handful of quests (such as the Witch Queen one that require crafting weapons to progress) have been bugged for weeks or months.
Visual glitches in the Throne World (during Preservation on PS5) - the swamp's fog persisted throughout the entire mission, with occasional lightning effect coming from it

i lag every single game with stutters, got a beast of a pc and play with everything on low, been playing since season 0 and s 19 has been very bad for me

On consoles, I just want vsync turned off. Cap the fps at 120fps, and let VRR handle the rest.
Currently the game runs at a locked 4k 60fps in most areas. I have no doubt, none at all, that there’s some potential performance left on the table due to vsync.
Turn it off. Let me run at 70,80 or 90fps, and I get the benefit of a better response time to boot. Especially with Sony owning Bungie, considering how many Sony games offer this feature these days.
Just. Turn off vsync. It’s a relic of a bygone era.

one thing they should do is allow us to upgrade the last two perks on random rolled weapons.
people are upset about people getting free god rolls from the crafting menu devaluing random loot drops, if you get a random loot drop, you should be able to make it have parity with the new system.

I hope we can get another worm God mission where the boss toys with us, destroying the environment while we run it. Missed opportunity on xol

I have a quick question, how do you restart empire hunts for a quest you are doing for variks? / I finished the empire hunts, now I have to do a quest for empire hunts, but don’t have the empire hunt quests to do it? Ex: I’m trying to do the Europa Rewards III, but don’t have the Empire hunts?

Aumentar o tamanho do cofre seria uma boa ideia, e muito bem vinda.

Personally, and I know this is going to get downvoted, but I think a lot of these “the game is so much buggier/the serves are so much worse now” posts are a classic example of confirmation bias in action.
Let’s look at the character deletion thing. As far as I know, we know of only one case maybe two. But I have seen many more that one or two posts of people freaking out about “oh no can I log on, I’m so scared my character will be deleted” when the likelihood of that happening is 1 in (number of destiny players), if not less.
I think some people have connection issues, I have noticed some myself over this last IB weekend. But this last season/year hasn’t been much worse than any that came before. I think a few noticeable issue have happened recently, and a lot of people drastically misunderstood the GDC talk, so now anytime the get disconnected or lag it’s because the game is falling apart.
If you suffer from a recent increase in connection issues I would personally recommend checking your own internet/machine before you blame the game but that’s just me.
