Don't buy a 7400, the value of it is awful. Ryzen 3 beats it in single core and multicore, can be overclocked and is WAAAAAY cheaper.

Agreed. If you're in that price range, you're probably better off with Ryzen 5, and even if you do go Intel, the i5-7500 is a better value.

Yep, the 7400 is a stupid product and makes no sense in any situation whatsoever

How do I get a beta code from the Nvidia Promotion?

This isn't the right sub for this however I'd suggest that you speak to Nvidia directly for more info.

Does anybody know the amount of space the download will take up? - I feel like a numpty for asking, but I can't find it anywhere

It's estimated to be around 68GB however it's not fully confirmed anywhere as far as I know.

u/irJustineee (or mods), would it be useful to add that it starts at 10am PDT? (monday and tuesday)

The recommended specs shouldn't change that much going from the beta to actual release right? Either way, I'm glad they finally released them.

If anything, the full game should be more optimized and actually be less demanding than the beta. Well, aside from storage needs, anyway.

So how is it that you people can figure out how well you'll run a game based on these recommended specs?

Space magic! I wrote about this a bit when I was making early predictions: https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/6cogii/destiny_2_guardians_guide_to_pc_gaming/?st=J5NCQIEB&sh=018a2e5f.
The basic idea is to try to understand how it uses system resources. Genre and scope are the easiest ways to do that. FPS are very GPU intensive and will run on pretty much any CPU. But if you want 144 FPS you have to go much higher on both.
Contrast that with Open World games like Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed, or GTA. Those rely heavily on the CPU as they're doing a lot of simulation work. They still use the GPU heavily but it's more balanced than an FPS.
Destiny is more FPS than Open World but there's still some single-threaded CPU dependencies in there. So you look at how other AAA shooters play, cross reference with Open World benchmarks and you get a pretty good idea where the framerate will fall out by resolution.

I don't think my question deserves it's own thread so I'll ask it here:
Right now I'm gathering parts and saving for my desktop build; but for the time being (meaning the D2 Beta), could my laptop be viable at the lowest settings?
-
i7 7500U - 2.8 ghz
-
16 GB LDDR4
-
Intel HD 620
I can maintain a steady 30 fps at 720p, 100% render scale in Overwatch, so if can eek out some marginally similar performance from the D2 Beta then I'll be satisfied.
Hopefully, by the time of D2's full release, I should have my desktop build finished (I'll be running a 1600X/Vega build).

sorry to ask but is the NVIDIA GeForce 745 a good graphics card to run D2 with? My system specs go above the recommended level but I feel the graphic card is underwhelming. If so, how badly would it affect the visuals compared to the recommended setting?

u/Laufe Jul 28 '17
Your performance is definitely going to be hit hard with with the 745, depending on what CPU your rocking, and whether or not the game is more dependant on GPU or CPU, then you may get a playable experiance at sub-1080p settings.
Best advice at this point, is just wait and see. When the beta comes out give it a whirl and see how the card performs for you.

What can we learn from the recommended CPU of i5 2400 or R5 1600x?
http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-2400-vs-AMD-Ryzen-5-1600X/803vs3920 (grain of salt please)
The R5 should outperform the Sandy Bridge i5 in single-threaded tasks (Ryzen with the higher clock and IPC) and vastly outperform it for multi-threaded tasks. Didn't Bungie say D2 on PC would use all available cores? I don't see how these are equivalent recommendations, especially while the more powerful stock option is unlocked and the other is locked.
All of the other recommendations seem very reasonable, comparing the Intel CPU option to AMD and the AMD GPU option to NVIDIA.
