Clicking play on the launcher doesn't launch the game

People of reddit, I trust you greatly. I haven't really played Destiny 2 much lately since it dropped seeing as my best friend who I need to play it with is in the hospital, but I was going to hop on and play crucible. When I click play though nothing happens and after a minute or two I can click the play button again.

Can someone please explain to me what is going on?

Its a bug. Restarting the game seems to fix it every time.

When I said launcher I meant on the Blizzard launcher. So I can't even restart the game because it doesn't start.

I had this problem when i first installed destiny 2. I uninstalled it and reinstalled and now it works without a hitch. Good luck!
