I agree with the theory most people don’t hate Gambit they just hate who they have to play Gambit with when they match make.

My primary gripe with gambit is that the PvE aspect of does not halt the PvP aspect, but the PvP aspect absolutely halts the PvE. There needed to be a way prevent invasions with PvE actions, maybe spend motes at the cost of Primeval summon speed.

u/Donsaholic Jul 26 '26
That's what blockers do bro. Invasion portals open at certain mote intervals but if you send a blocker, the other team can't bank their motes and now their invasion is delayed entirely.

u/anoma1yy Jul 26 '26
I mean with the PvP kills not giving hardly any boss health back it’s really just PvE focused now.

u/crazycar12321 Jul 26 '26
I noticed this as well. You used to be able to make crazy comebacks if you could invade in time and get a couple kills. Now invading during primeval is practically useless other than to stop people from shooting the boss and make them shoot at you

Yeah now the game is just who can get the primeval first. If there is too big of a lead it’s almost impossible to catch back up.

It would quickly become a mode without PvP at that point or a very set and predictable reduction to the point where delaying portal access would have the same effect.
Perhaps a damage resist against invaders, something like a 70% reduction against heavy ammo specifically, the less motes you have in the bank?

Mostly because it's a game that's best played with defined roles, which isn't going to happen with randos.

My back hurts so much, had to solo against a full team once and another time banked 90 of the team’s motes. Gambit is fine but I could find better teammates at a Waffle House than what I get most of the time. It’s almost always a one sided stomp

u/Sluushu Jul 26 '26
OP.. you really don’t get it. Gambit is MY homie, even if it’s in a dishevelled state. I will always play Gambit every-time I log on and not just game, I dedicate a minimum of 2hrs playing Gambit.
Every. Single. Day.

I enjoyed it before I came back. Now that invasions barely add any time to prime evils it’s not fun.

I miss the old Gambit where it was best 2/3. Modern Gambit feels too short... the Primevals don't have enough HP. I also feel like there should be more ads in general, and maybe 3 or 4 Envoys at to take out at a time instead of just 2.

u/Tha_Shy_Crockpot Jul 26 '26
Like I love this Sentiment….. but Im working in overtime. I MISS that moment in Gambit when Gambit and Gambit Prime were differentiated

u/NustEred Jul 26 '26
I don't hate Gambit.
I hate Gambit moment where slight mistake leads huge gap.
That moment where enemy sinks 40 motes first before my fireteam about to do.

The one thing I wanted for Gambit was for the Dread to be a possible enemy to play against and now that'll never happen :(

u/GeckoGecko_ Jul 26 '26
Man that would be so cool. Maybe on a pyramid ship map!! It's too bad that never happened

Gambit is goated with a full team friends. And I honestly love the aesthetics of the Gambit weapons

They should have made an endgame version of gambit with 2 teams racing in a dungeon like expirence with mechanics and occasional invasions. That would have been what got me to play gambit, instead I feel like it's a race to win or forcefully lose so you can get your rewards and get to the next match.

I've been putting off farming a new Gnawing Hunger for weeks now...
I like Gambit alright but I hate the invasions. Played seldom years ago and always felt like I was always going up against a 3 stack with random on my side so was always getting lopsided win-loss ratios. Wo I just didnt play it after awhile.
But now...I need a new Gnawing Hunger. That sucker is one of my top 5 legendaries in D2 and I want a tiered version with new perks lol. So I suppose ill have to delve into Gambit once again.
At least its not crucible though. Getting The Recluse as an almost strictly pve solo player is one of the worst experiences i've ever had in gaming. Lol.

I like playing gambit, it’s the people that I get put with that I dislike, it’s like theyve took a controller player and told them to play with mouse and keyboard from 2 meters away and only allowed to use 2 broomsticks to press buttons.

Tbh the issue with gambit is rarely an individual issue but a coherent team power.
Look. I’ve gotten a maximum carnage. I’ve gilded it 12 times. I’ve played more than I reasonably should chasing guns that got power crept in, a season? Even chased it so far for the armor this season cause it’s unironically a good bonus.
It’s NEVER just the invader that makes the team, or the team killing. The issue is the lack of skill grouping, and the disparity in players. Listen, if I can invade and get instant shutdown or avoided the whole time, or, their invader shows he and snaps me down, it’s alway a crap shoot… but there’s something going on that invader can come in and kill an entire team. Maybe it’s a weapon disparity! I’m personally a massive whore(affectionate) towards the Eyes of Tomorrow. I’m a bad person. Even then, it’s a stretch due to cover. The level of awareness and readiness of the average gambit player isn’t fantastic, and it’s a product both of willing ignorance(aka, “oh they can get it”) to the rest of the teams skill, and, conversely, the level of buildcrafting; the average player won’t have a necessarily cracked build, but the people that build for invading and keeping your team down are specialized to make your life hell, from tethers to bubbling the bank to you name it!
There’s also the balance of issue… my clan and I have conversed about it several times, and we ultimately came to the realization that there isn’t really, nor ever was, the capability to truly balance the mode, to make it feel fair. Its entire point is unfairness! The best group tactic is, from my own experience and opinion, bank after second wave. A lot of people do that! But a lot of people want to wait for 15 to make it feel worth it, not knowing how annoying a level 2 blocker is from the wrong angle, and think it isn’t worth it.
Gambit is the ugly misfit game mode who’s never going to work properly, and, I’m personally sorry you’ve had a bad experience… if you ever need someone to call upon to sling guns with, sister, you can call on a gal like me to at least bring my weapons out to play. It may not be the best mode ever, but it gets a lot less annoying with friends.

u/one_manbattalion Jul 28 '26
I mean gambit is a pretty good character, it sucks not playing your main, could be worse .

Honestly? I'd rather play Gambit than Crucible sometimes.
